STREETSCAPE LCI

Fairburn is investing in pedestrian-oriented projects in hope of boosting the appeal of living, working and visiting downtown. The city has widened sidewalks and added new crosswalks along Broad Street. It’s also turning an overpass into a walkway for pedestrians to go between either side of the railroad tracks.

The LCI Streetscape project includes streetscape enhancements along US 29 from Malone Street to approximately 175 ft north of Strickland Street. US 29 will remain four lanes. Improvements include a vegetated median, removal of southbound right turn lane onto Campbellton Road, expansion of pedestrian facilities along the westbound side of US 29 & signal upgrades at Smith Street, Campbellton Road, & Dodd Street. Pedestrian improvements along the west of US 29 include new granite header curb, brick paver sidewalks, street trees, raised planter beds, & new pedestrian street lighting. The east side of US 29 will include brick paver sidewalk, grass buffer strip, new street lighting, & landscaping. The project also includes the rehabilitation of the former Smith Street underpass into a pedestrian walkway & plaza space. This will include a brick staircase, ADA ramp, and aesthetic improvements to the underpass.

souTh fuLTon ciD ProjecTs

The South Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) in partnership with government officials, business professionals and members of the surrounding community the CID is investing in area wide access and mobility improvements providing freight access to warehousing, manufacturing and industrial sites along Oakley Industrial Boulevard and connectivity to I-85. The CID covers 6,446 acres of commercial and industrial property.

In Fiscal Year 2009, Quick Start, created 223 customized workforce training programs to create or save nearly 16,000 jobs. Collaborative partnerships have enhanced our investment opportunities through partnerships with ARC, industry leaders, we have updated our Comprehensive Plan 2040, LCI Downtown Master Plan, and more recently received $250,000 to explore transportation and connectivity throughout our downtown with the LCI Education Expansion and Gateway Study.

In 2023, The City of Fairburn was selected as a recipient of the Livable Centers Initiative Grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission for a planning study geared to help reimagine the downtown area, create vibrant transit corridors, and promote a live-work-play environment.

The LCI program goals include:
