Council’s Environmental Events and Activities Program provides many opportunities for City of Logan residents to attend and participate in environmental events and workshops.

NATURALLY NATIVE 9.30am – 11am, Jimboomba Library Do you like the idea of planting native species? Privacy, flowers, perfume, birds, bees, butterflies and habitat native gardens can provide them all. Join ABC Radio Gardening presenter, Annette McFarlane, as she profiles some of the best local and hybrid native trees, shrubs, groundcovers and vines for local gardens. CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY Participate in one of Australia's largest events and join millions of Australians as we work together to clean up our local environment by collecting and removing rubbish. CIP CELEBRATION DAY 10am – 1pm, Eagleby Wetlands Join us as we acknowledge over 250 dedicated members of the Conservation Incentives Program (CIP) for their efforts in conserving private land in the City of Logan. Celebrated annually, CIP Day is a fun and educational event that brings the community together to learn about local flora, fauna and land management. Focusing on Habitat Connections, the 2019 event will offer workshops, presentations and displays on creating wildlife friendly backyards. Lunch provided. COMPOST & WORM FARMING COMMUNITY WORKSHOP 10am – 12pm, Browns Plains Waste & Recycling Facility Want to know how to successfully establish and maintain a home composting and worm farming system? Come join us for this FREE workshop where you will learn about different styles and methods of organic recycling. Included is a behind-the-scenes bus tour of the tip face and recycling facilities as well as compost bin giveaways for 5 lucky workshop participants. Refreshments and morning tea provided. CARP CUP FAMILY FISHING DAY 7am – 1pm, Marsden Join us for a free family fun day of fishing at Council’s Carp Cup Fishing Competition. By competing in the Cup, you’ll help to clear our waterways and wetlands of pest fish Carp and Tilapia, and might even win one of the great prizes on offer! Wildlife and fish experts will be on hand giving demonstrations and talks, and coming along is a great way to learn more about our natural environment. A free barbeque lunch will be provided. KIDS NATURE JOURNALING 9.30am – 11.30am, Boronia Bushlands Nature journaling is the creative exploration of nature through the practise of drawing and writing. This relaxing hobby is a great way to connect with nature while learning more about your surroundings. Join ecologist and artist Paula Peeters for this inspirational and educational kid's beginner’s workshop. Ages: 8-12 years. NATURE JOURNALING 1pm – 3pm, Boronia Bushlands Join ecologist and artist, Paula Peeters as she guides you through the calming practise of drawing and writing. During this beginners adult workshop you will learn basic techniques that will increase your creative confidence while also gaining fun ecological facts about your local park. PLANTING HOMES FOR BUTTERFLIES 9am – 1pm, Mount Warren Park Give back this Mother’s day and help save the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly by coming along to this free community planting event. On the day we’ll work together to help restore habitat for this Vulnerable creature, which is one of Australia’s largest butterflies! This family friendly event is a great way to learn more about the beautiful butterfly. A free butterfly vine which can be potted or planted at home will be gifted to the first 25 families to book. Lunch is provided. Please bring water, hat and sunscreen.

LOGAN ECO ACTION FESTIVAL (LEAF) 10am – 3pm, Griffith University Logan Campus, Meadowbrook Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) is the City of Logan’s annual festival to celebrate World Environment Day! Join us for music, eco-exhibitors, workshops, food trucks, wildlife displays, rides and face painting, hands-on activities and much more! AUTUMN VARIOUS TIMES & LOCATIONS COMMUNITY GARDENS Community gardens are a great way for residents to come together and grow organic food, improve health and meet new people. Everyone is welcome at Logan’s community gardens and no gardening experience is necessary. COME & TRY BIRDWATCHING Join Birdlife Southern Queensland for one of their regular birdwatching outings. All levels of experience welcome. COME & TRY BUSHWALKING Join the Logan and Beaudesert Bushwalkers and explore the regions great bushwalks whilst increasing your fitness and meeting new people. COME & TRY MOUNTAIN BIKING Join Brisbane South Mountain Bike Club for a social ride around Daisy Hill Forest Park. All new riders to the club can enjoy one free session! Library membership is free of charge and available to all community members. Library membership includes: free Wi-Fi and public computers for use at no charge; access to online learning and e-resources; books, movies and music; and free events for children, teens and adults.

Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. Parkrun commences at 7am on Saturdays.
