SEASON PROGRAM August 2019 to March 2020
Welcome Now is an exciting time for growth and change in Logan so we’re keeping things fresh with a selection of new performance works and this new-look show guide! As part of the fast-growing South East Queensland region, we’ve selected a lively arts offering to appeal to our city’s vibrant and varied communities. Read on to discover a diverse program that offers music, dance, theatre and plenty for the kids. If you enjoy dance in any form, you’ll be inspired by the exciting one-man play 100 Years of the History of Dance. Our feature drama, The Longest Minute is a quintessentially Queensland tale of a footballloving family that challenges us to ‘dare to believe’. A wonderful selection of classic children’s stories will come to life – Mem Fox’s enchanting Possum Magic, Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’, and Eric Hill’s loveable Spot. There’s also a singing workshop for youngsters and the chance to join MZAZA in concert on the LEC stage.
And for those who love songs from today, yesterday and around the world, Lady Beatle features the Beatles’ biggest chart toppers while The Sapphires brings classic soul hits within a heart-warming true story. Our Merry Melodies program continues with morning tea, music and dance including a special Swingin’ Christmas Show. Whether a long-term supporter of LEC or a newcomer, we hope you’ll find something inspirational in the experiences on offer. Tina Wittke and Kari Van Leeuwen (venue managers)

BrainBuzz Have you ever wondered if you can fly without wings? Catapult a ball over a stadium? Or walk across quicksand? The show kicks off with demonstrations and experiments, illuminating the properties and principles of the final challenge. The investigation continues to dig further through stories, sketches, challenges, and games heading down a rabbit-hole of fascinating facts towards the end goal. Finally, it reaches a point where the Kell and Clare are armed with all the information they need to tackle the challenge head-on. With a final now-or-never test, they apply all the info they’ve gathered to see if they pass or fail the challenge! The stage version of the show ups the ante, setting its sights on FIVE challenges in 30 minutes. BrainBuzz favourite, Einstein is joined by Experimentary’s, Dr Rob to make the impossible, possible. Whether they’re attempting to manipulate the weather right in front of your eyes, showing you how to see music or launch their very own rocket, Dr Rob and Einstein will attempt the most unimaginable feats of science. And despite Einstein (occasionally) demonstrating exactly what not to do, his bumbling blunders and general buffoonery, will play a very important role in pointing Dr Rob in the right direction. Will they pass or fail? You be the judge. Suitable for ages 5 to 12 years.

NOT TO BE MISSED
The Longest Minute By Robert Kronk & Nadine McDonald-Dowd Where were you the night of the 2015 NRL Grand Final? The night when long-time underdogs, the North Queensland Cowboys, won in an all-QLD nail-biter that changed the game, and the state, forever. For one family of Cowboys diehards, their whole lives have led up to this moment. Jess was born on the night of the North Queensland Cowboys’ first game in Townsville. Daughter of Foley Shield legend Frank ‘Black Flash’ Wright, she grew up as a footy fanatic with big dreams, silky skills and boundless ambition to play. But as a girl in a male-dominated sport, she faces more than her fair share of knockbacks, just like the luckless Cowboys. Despite their relentless string of losses, Jess still dares to believe in her team, and herself. Queensland Theatre joins forces with debase productions and JUTE Theatre Company to bring this iconically Queensland story to audiences across the state.
