Logan Art Gallery showcases the best local and touring art, craft and design exhibitions. Be inspired by practical art workshops and exhibition talks, find beautiful, locally made artworks at the Gallery Store or the Creative Markets, and enjoy the activities in the Young Peoples Gallery. Logan Art Gallery is one of the most dynamic regional art galleries in South-East Queensland. We hope our exhibitions, events and activities spark your creativity and encourage you to visit. We look forward to seeing you at the gallery. Venue hire and group bookings Logan Art Gallery, including its creative arts workshop, is available for private and community functions and events. Large groups are encouraged to call and inform us of their intended visit. Logan Art Gallery staff will provide free tours to interested groups booking at least a week in advance of their visit. Groups can also book practical activities to further enhance their visit. Activities Meet the artists and participate in free events, activities and talks held in conjunction with the exhibition program. • All children will need to be signed in and out by a parent, adult guardian or carer. • Parents or carers are to remain with children aged seven and under. • Closed in shoes must be worn by all activity participants.

Esther Austin: Looking forward Esther Austin describes her new body of work as ‘looking at art from within’. In these semi-abstract paintings Esther uses colour and tone to suggest spaces where the boundaries of inside and outside seem to merge and collapse.
Yuming Qin: The first vestige of ancient China: the art of oracle

In 1899 oracle bones unearthed from the ruins of the Yin dynasty revealed some of the world’s earliest written words. Artist Yuming Qin presents a series of abstract ink on paper works which respond to the found oracles of ancient China.
Logan Art Gallery will be closed to the public on the following days for the installation of new exhibitions and holiday periods: • • • •

Lei Xu: Pure land
In dreams presents a series of paintings created by recently arrived Syrian refugee students from St Francis College, Crestmead. In this exhibition the students have created works which interpret the concept of dreams, varying from hopes, aspirations, nightmares, and memories.
Pure land by Woodridge artist Lei Xu, is an exhibition of abstract oil paintings which explore the transformation of modern China, from the Mao era to Chinese society today.

International wildlife in art: artists’ demonstrations

A special selection of student works chosen from the Logan Art Gallery workshop program. This sixteenth annual exhibition highlights the gallery’s workshop program which is an integral part of the visual arts education and cultural experience in the City of Logan.

16 March to 28 April 2018 - School Holiday Program Kids on Tour 2018 (Drop in activities for children)
Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 April (inclusive), drop in anytime between 10am to 4pm Kids on Tour 2018: Me, Myselfie and I invites young visitors to explore representation of the self and consider different ways of creating their own portraits. This free program extends the idea of self-portraiture beyond documenting our physical appearance to create a richer understanding of how we can express aspects of our emotions, personality, memories and experiences. Floral images in recycled plastics with artist Marnie Linger
Saturday 28 April, 10.30am to 12.30pm Learn about the importance of recycling. Work in relief and create floral inspired artworks on canvas using recycled plastic objects. Work individually and collaboratively to raise awareness of the protection of our natural environment.
Saturday 21 April 2018 10am to 2pm ALL WELCOME Family fun day: International wildlife theme Join us for a day of animal themed activities and fun. Watch artists demonstrate their skills, get involved with animal inspired art activities, and make an animal mask to wear. Watch live native animal demonstrations. Meet the Animal Care team from Logan City Council, and learn about animals in their natural habitat. Engage with small animals at the petting zoo. There will be body art performers, face painting and a bouncy castle. Listen to live music and enjoy delicious food and drink. Creative Markets: where imagination meets creation Enjoy creative markets outside the gallery where individual stall holders will present their wares including crafts, handmade clothes and sweets, plus food and drink. Pick up an individual and unique gift from the market. What to bring: Dress up as your favourite animal. Unlimited places. All ages welcome.

Logan Artworkers Networking Events (LANE)
Logan City Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) program is a partnership with the Queensland Government that supports professional and emerging professional artists and artsworkers to practise their art, for and with communities, resulting in mutual development of the professional artists/ artsworkers and communities in Logan. Logan City Council is now accepting applications for the latest round of funding. Individuals, groups and organisations can apply for grants up to a maximum of $8,000. All applicants are required to have an active Australian Business Number. Applications close on Tuesday 13 March 2018. Arts professionals from all art forms including dance, music, design, museum and cultural heritage, new media, visual arts, writing and theatre are encouraged to apply. Calling all artists, performers, writers and cultural workers Logan Artworkers Networking Events (LANE) was developed through feedback from arts practitioners wanting to establish links with each other, to help build a stronger arts community in the city and participate in vibrant local projects. LANE is held at Logan Art Gallery and explores a variety of themes to develop and nurture creativity in the City of Logan so the community benefits socially and economically from the arts.

Making Arts Accessible
Music in the Gallery
Descriptive exhibition tours: for vision impaired visitors Join us for a descriptive tour of the current exhibitions. The tour is aimed at providing vision impaired visitors with an experience of the exhibited works through spoken description. These tours are the outcome of recent training provided by Vision Australia. This project has been assisted by the Australian government through the Department of Communication and the Arts’ Catalyst—Australian Arts and Culture Fund.

Music students from Canterbury College Artists program will be performing an acoustic concert with a blend of Eastern and Western music featuring the traditional Chinese instrument, the erhu.
This will be the debut performance by Luke Allison in support of the release of his upcoming EP. Luke’s work combines elements of progressive rock, cinematic scoring, and electronic synthesis. Drawing inspiration from bands such as 30 Seconds to Mars and composers like Hans Zimmer the project aims to capture the listeners’ attention with catchy hooks and melodies while keeping them engaged with epic, emotive soundscapes.

Logan Art Gallery Store Logan Art Gallery Store has a range of unique gifts and collectables – perfect for a special occasion. Designs include textiles, handmade jewellery, books, glassware, woodware and gift cards. The store is located inside the gallery and is open 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
Art and dementia program: for visitors with dementia and their carers Logan Art Gallery offers discussion based tours of works of art for people with dementia and their carers. Facilitated by our trained volunteers, the participants are encouraged to contribute knowledge, engage in interpretation, express emotions, and recall memories. Involvement in this nationwide program has been shown to increase well-being and the quality of life for participants.
