Welcome Logan Art Gallery is one of the most dynamic regional galleries in South-East Queensland, showcasing the best local and touring art, craft, and design exhibitions. Be inspired by practical art workshops and exhibition talks, find beautiful, locally made artworks in the Gallery Store or enjoy the activities in the Young Peoples Gallery. We look forward to seeing you at the gallery. Venue hire and group bookings Logan Art Gallery, including its creative arts workshop, is available for private and community functions and events. Large groups are encouraged to call and inform us of their intended visit. Logan Art Gallery staff will provide free tours to interested groups booking at least a week in advance of their visit. Groups can also book practical activities to further enhance their visit. Events and activities Meet the artists and participate in free events, activities and talks held in conjunction with the exhibition program. • All children will need to be signed in and out by a parent, adult guardian or carer. • Parents or carers are to remain with children aged seven and under. • Closed in shoes must be worn by all activity participants. Note that there is a limit of three workshop bookings per person per exhibition round. Please notify the gallery if you are unable to attend, to avoid people on the waiting list missing out. Recent acquisitions: highlights from the Logan Art Collection
Natasha Narain creates an immersive installation, which interweaves bold and textual paintings with repurposed found-furniture and porcelain dolls. In the Young Peoples Gallery, Natasha has also designed a series of artist books—specifically for a young audience— that reference ideas of nurture, intimacy and memory.
This exhibition highlights a diverse selection of contemporary works that have been recently acquired for the Logan Art Collection.

Physical video Physical video is an exhibition featuring examples of performance and theatricality in video art from the 1970s to the present day. While thematically diverse, each work engages the human body as its subject, focusing on how physical gestures and actions can illustrate social, political and aesthetic concerns. Making arts accessible Art and dementia program: for visitors with dementia and their carers Logan Art Gallery offers discussion-based tours of works of art for people with dementia and their carers. Facilitated by our trained volunteers, participants are encouraged to contribute their knowledge, engage in interpretation, express emotions and recall memories. Involvement in this nation-wide program has been shown to increase well-being and the quality of life for participants. Descriptive exhibition tours: for visionimpaired visitors and their carers Descriptive tours of current exhibitions are tailored to visitors’ needs. These tours provide vision-impaired visitors with an experience of the exhibited works through spoken description. Individual and group bookings are welcome. Saturday 24 August, 10am to 3pm Join exhibiting artist Natasha Narain in artistic play. Create your own work based on the Guria (doll in Hindi) that have become other beings in her exhibition Purpose-re-purpose. Use a variety of cross-cultural art techniques such as drawing, pattern-making, painting over, wrapping, collaging and sewing to give personality and meaning to your Guria. Participants can take their finished doll home. Bring your own lunch. Art materials and dolls supplied, but please feel welcome to bring your own. 12 places. For adults and older teens.
Rhythms in relief – Printmaking with Rachael Lee
Tuesday 27 August, 10am to 3pm The work of artist Rachael Lee features in Recent acquisitions: highlights from the Logan Art Collection. Public access to the printing press
Wednesday 28 August, between 10am to 4pm Logan Art Gallery will provide free access to the workshop’s medium-sized printing press. Experience using a printing press is essential as this is a non-tutored session. Bring your own print resources, special papers, printing plates, etc. 10 places. For adults.

Saturday 7 September, 10am to 3pm Enjoy transforming a book with Natasha Narain, who will assist you to turn your book into an art object through cutting, sticking, layering, staining, sewing, and writing. This hands-on workshop uses found objects. You will be challenged and guided to look at a book as a story and a portable studio. School holiday program at Logan Art Gallery Part 1. Leaving: 15th Century woodblock printing to 20th Century 3D printing with Pamela See
Saturday 5 October, drop in any time between 10am to 2pm, no booking required Explore the theme “what I hope to leave behind for future generations” with artist Pamela See. Create a series of woodblock prints of leaves and embellish with calligraphic style drawings. You can then choose to have your designs translated into a design for a 3D print by attending the Part 2 workshop. NOTE: You may attend this workshop without attending Part 2 on page 9.

Animals and birds in art: Hands on art activities for children

Part 2. Leaving: 15th Century woodblock prints to 3D printed images with Pamela See

Tuesday 8 October, 3.30pm to 4.45pm Turn your woodblock prints into 3D printed images with artist Pamela See. This workshop is designed to complement the dropin Part 1 session staged on Saturday 5 October. Participants will be assisted in translating their printed and drawn compositions into an STL file that can be 3D printed by Logan City Council Library services.* The project explores the relationship between 15th Century principles of perspective to 20th Century computer aided design (CAD). *Participants of this Part 2 workshop involving CAD will be required to bring their own device. Tinkercad will be used to create the files. Parents will be required to sign-in to or sign-up for an account with Autodesk. A selection of children’s designs will be adapted and printed by the artist for a participatory artwork. NOTE: You must have attended the Part 1 workshop, held on Saturday 5 October to attend this session. 15 places. For children aged 7 and older, and teens.
Fresco painting for adults with Nancy Brown

Thursday 17 October, 10am to 4pm Fresco painting is one of the earliest forms of painting that dates from the Bronze Age across Europe, Middle East and Indian subcontinent. During this workshop you will work with artist Nancy Brown and create a fresco piece, working into freshly laid lime plaster with pigments. You will also explore fresco painting onto embossed, cast and poured plaster surfaces, which can also be incised and carved. Bring your own lunch. 15 places. For adults and older teens.

Each year Logan Art Gallery selects one of the outstanding young artists who exhibited in the annual Artwaves: Logan and adjacent areas secondary schools art exhibition, to mentor in developing their own solo exhibition. This year will feature the work of artist Danica Coetzee.

A little bit of our Syria: Daniel Seed and Rose Richani A little bit of our Syria explores the personal, intimate stories of everyday life in Orman, Syria through a series of photographs and digital stories. This exhibition by Logan Reserve artists Daniel Seed and Rose Richani celebrates the cultural diversity of Australia while considering the sense of belonging in more than one place.
