2012-13 CONCIERGE GUIDE TO FAULKNER COUNTY
Welcome to Conway and Faulkner County! No matter if you are here for business or pleasure, there’s something just for you nestled here in our beautiful part of the world.
Visit Downtown Conway or Pickles Gap or Conway Commons for a bit of shopping. You’ll find the staples and the unusual. Clothing for every member of the family, antiques for every taste and fine jewelry for that special someone are all available Downtown. Our vibrant downtown entertainment district continues to expand, with new themed restaurants and specialty stores springing up all the time. The Commons has that just-right mix of national names and local favorites and is the bustling commercial hub of the city. Pickles Gap is a one-of-a-kind experience, with folk art and antique shops and even something for your sweet tooth. If you get hungry, you will have no problem finding just what your tastebuds crave at one of our restaurants, which include a number of familiar names and local favorites owned and operated by some of the best restaurateurs anywhere.
When it’s time to relax, we’ve got you covered. From the Arkansas River to Lake Conway, fishing, boating and other watersports are popular throughout the year. Parks throughout Conway offer top-notch facilities for baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and other sports. State parks, such as Woolly Hollow, offer the best of The Natural State. Walking trails and bike trails are also common. Or tee it up at one of our outstanding golf courses.
Don’t forget a workout for your brain! Faulkner County boasts some of the best public schools in the state. The public school district is completing a five-year plan to not only construct new facilities but to also plan for future growth. But the public school district is only one of three secondary schools in the city — two private schools cater to students whose parents desire a more faith-based education for their children. Conway is home to three institutions of higher learning — University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College and Central Baptist College. Music, art and culture are important to us, and it shows at Faulkner County Library, Baum
Art Gallery on the UCA campus and Faulkner County Historical Museum.
Did someone say special events? No shortage here, with festivals galore. Toad Suck Daze is the premier and signature event of the year, with more than 150,000 people attending each spring for the entertainment, food and fun. Conway is also home to the Arkansas Shakespeare Festival. EcoFest, an event designed to highlight sustainability and environmental awareness, gets bigger and better every year. Obviously, we take our fun seriously. If you’re still unsure about where to go and what to do after perusing Concierge, bookmark www.GoConway.com. This page of the Log Cabin Democrat’s website will serve as your personal concierge for your next trip. Thank you for visiting. We’re glad you’re here and look forward to seeing you again soon..
