Precautions to be followed during welding A lot of precautions need to be taken in the process of welding. From the right protective equipments, clothings to the right physical environment – everything needs to be taken care of in order to avoid accidents of any kind. Logos Weld being one of the best providers of welding rod manufacturing plants, brings you a brief on precautions to be followed during welding.
Precaution No. 1
While welding the area of operation needs to be properly screened so that the other workers and passersby are not effected by the welding glare. At the same time the screens should be so placed that ventilation is not compromised. Also the screen and the surrounding area needs to be painted with special paints so that the ultraviolet radiations get absorbed. Black color should be avoided, instead light pastel colors of titanium dioxide or zinc should be used as base paint.
Precaution No. 2
One needs to keep in mind that electric arc is a very powerful source of light, and this is why protective clothing and equipment needs to be worn during the entire welding operation. Operators are recommeded to wear safety googles during the oxyacetylene cutting and welding processes. This will protect the eyes from glare, heat and flying fragments of hot metals. Likewise during electric welding processes, googles along with a helmet/ hand shield needs to be worn to avoid intense ultraviolet and infrared rays. Precaution No. 3
When it comes to clothings, it is recommended that the clothes which OSHA standards are used. Aprons which are flameproof, leather jackets or material which are resistant to fire and flames need to be worn to get protection from radiated heat, sparks and molten metals. Likewise flameproof gauntlet gloves should be worn to protect the hand and arms. Most of all it is recommended that gloves and clothing are always kept dry. In cases of heavy work it is important that you use high boots and fireresistant leggings. Also a sheet of metal screen in front of the worker's leg during the production work will protect the legs from sparks and molten metals during the cutting operations. Most of all it is recommeded that you Remove all flammable material like oil, gasoline, cotton from the vicinity of welding. Also do not leave hot rejected electrode stubs, steel scrap, or tools on the floor or around the welding equipment. This will bring down the number of accidents drastically.
