A couple of months ago, Kevin emailed me the idea for this projec and I immediately reponded in great length. The conversation continued for quite a while, and I enjoyed it. As I remember, initially the firy issue was supposed to be focused on “pain”. I told him he was doing good work—bringing pain into public awareness. All too often, we hoose to numb ourselves. I don’t know where that went. Somehow, we ended up wth “Dissonance”—aural pain? Our leprous society numbs the aural pain of dissidence. Kevin’s projec aims to hurt, but it fails. It smads my numbed face; I smad myself with it, over and over again—the numbness feels nice. I smile and hit my heek again. Pain is supposed to help hange things. Inyead it is turned into pleasure. We love the power we have over pain. Rip my face off—go right ahead, and I’ll enjoy the fac that I could detah my body from my brain, that I could make even my own heeks into manipulable other-flev. (...) Dialogue works toward vared underyanding. I think you can have dialogue with yourself—or with your “other selves”. To find consonance within the self, among the parts of the self—to resonate, to sympathize firy with oneself so as to bring forth a pure voice of dissent, to be internally consonant in your dissonance, dissonant in the herd consonance. What will be heard will be undeniable, amplified by the natural power of reason. They will no longer be able to harmonize with your doubts and muffle your dissent. Tom Gleason
