Tour Itinerary Day 1 – September 16 Arrival at Southampton Ferry Terminal. After clearing customs and immigration we board our touring coach. Our first stop is Penshurst Place, the ancestral home of the Sidney family, located in the picturesque village of Penshurst. We continue our journey to Canterbury, where we check in at our hotel. In the evening you are invited to our “Welcome to England Dinner” at a local restaurant. Overnight in Canterbury (-/-/D) Day 2 – September 17 This morning we have a guided tour of Canterbury. This famous cathedral city was a major pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Ancient walls, originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Iconic Canterbury Cathedral, founded in 597 AD, is the headquarters of the Church of England. You will have free time to explore on your own in the afternoon and evening. Day 3 – September 18 Today we visit Sissinghurst, famous for its remarkable Castle Garden. Then we continue to Hastings, the town and area that entered the history books with the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the beginning of the Norman conquest of England. We will have a guided tour of both the town and the nearby site of the historic battle. Overnight in Canterbury (B/-/-) 1
Day 4 – September 19 This morning we check out of our hotel in Canterbury drive towards Cambridge. On the way we will visit Anglesey Abbey and Gardens, an historical country house that was once a priory. We will also pay a visit to the only American military cemetery in Britain, located near Madingley. In town we will also enjoy lunch in an historical English restaurant. When we reach Cambridge we check in at our next hotel. The evening is free at your leisure. Overnight in Bury St Edmunds (B/L/-) Day 5 – September 20 This morning we will have a guided tour of Cambridge. The city, located on the river Cam, is the home of the prestigious University of Cambridge, founded in the 13th century. Our tour includes inside visits to King’s College, the Wren Library and the Fitzwilliam Museum. We will of course not miss boarding a punt for a cruise on the river Cam. Punts are the traditional flat bottom boats used on shallow rivers. An optional performance at Theatre Royal may be offered at a later date. Overnight in Bury St. Edmunds

Day 6 – September 21 Today we visit Sutton Hoo. near Woodbridge, East Anglia, is the site of two 6th- and early 7th-century cemeteries. One contained an undisturbed ship burial, including a wealth of Anglo-Saxon artefacts of outstanding art-historical and archaeological significance, most of which are now in the British Museum in London. Our tour also includes a visit to Lavenham Guildhall, a 16th century timber-framed building. Overnight in Bury St Edmunds (B/-/-) Day 7 – September 22 In the morning we check out of our hotel in Cambridge and board our coach for the final destination on our tour London. We check in at our hotel (rooms may be ready only by the official check-in time) and have the afternoon free to explore London, where there is always something new to discover. In the evening you are invited to our Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Canterbury (B/-/D) Day 8 – September 23 This morning is the official end of our tour and we say good-bye to those of you who will be heading home or continuing your travels on your own. If you have booked additional nights in London, we are offering an optional tour today to the famous Royal Observatory at Greenwich. We will be taking a boat on the Thames to reach this historical site. Return travel arrangements may depend on the number of participants, so it may be by train or by private transfer.
