Points to note... By special arrangement, London Clarion is selling its own Real Ale at the Easter Meet which has been brewed by London Clarion Member Ed. Perfect at his Heathen Brewery in Haywards Heath. This can be obtained by way of tokens only, which can be purchased from any of the London Clarion organisers at ÂŁ3.00 per pint.
Secure indoor bike parking is available at the Park Inn Hotel, opposite the Ballroom (key cards are available from a number of the London Clarion organisers). Access from the street is by way of a separate set of stairs (do ask another Clarion member for assistance, if needed). The door to the street can either be opened by security or by way of accessing the stairs from the 1st floor. On Sunday afternoon we have a cycle to Foulness Island which is the only active military range in Britain that maintains a civilian population. All rules (see later in the programme) will need to be strictly observed. Places are limited to 30 and sign-up will be on a first come / first served basis by registering with Alex Southern from Friday evening. N.B. the earlier you get to the meet, the more chance you have of coming along (advance sign-up is not possible). On Saturday afternoon / evening we will be showing a series of short documentary films about people and communities engaged in equitable initiatives for cyclists and pedestrians. Proceed south to Orsett Cock roundabout, circle roundabout (6th exit) (5.63m). Retrace on A128 to finish opposite 19th kerb joint north of ep1(20yds) and about 50yds south of Old Mill Cottages. Introduction: Don Atkinson London Clarion Guest of speaker: Maurice Burton Maurice Burton was the first black British champion in cycling. His first taste of success came when he won the Junior Sprint national title in 1973. He won the amateur scratch title the following year, raced over a 20 km distance. He went on to represent Britain at the 1974 Commonwealth Games. Burton moved to Belgium in 1977, basing himself in Ghent. He rode 56 professional Six Day events before retiring from competitive cycling after a serious racing accident at the Buenos Aires Six Day in 1984. His son Germain Burton is also a racing cyclist who has represented Great Britain on an international level as a junior and has just joined JLT Condor Prize Presentations: Ian Clarke National Secretary Raffle (Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Nelson Clarion Clubhouse)
