Why summer is the best time to upgrade your heating system

A heating system upgrade is often the last thing on people’s minds during the warm summer months yet this can be the best time to modernise or even replace an ageing system, improving your property’s overall energy efficiency and saving on running costs.

Volatile energy prices over the last 12 months have resulted in a greater number of businesses keen to find a heating system that reduces bills – while environmental concerns mean they want one that quite literally doesn’t cost the earth either.

But as a nation that relies heavily on fossil fuels to heat our properties, what offers the best alternatives?

As part of the UK’s journey to net zero in 2050, the Government’s Energy Strategy

A heat pump has two components – a condenser unit that sits outside the property and a thermostatically controlled indoor unit which can be mounted on the wall, ceiling, or floor.

In simple terms, when there is a call for heat, the heat pump will turn on the fan in the outdoor condensing unit to begin the process of extracting renewable thermal energy from the air outside. This heat is amplified using a compressor and then released directly into a room via the indoor wall, floor, or ceiling

In cooling mode, the process is reversed, transferring heat out of your property and returning cool air to the inside.

Martin Mullan, Managing Director for air cool engineering NI, said, “Our company air cool engineering NI has seen many technological changes since we started in 1998. Today’s modern air conditioning systems now use advanced heat pump technology which delivers cooling in summer and highly efficient heating in winter. Our heating and cooling systems are ideal for our climate, which often experiences all

Highlighting the systems’ cost-effectiveness, he added, “Although heat pumps use electricity, they cost less to run compared to conventional boiler-based systems, and with A++ to A+++ErP Energy Ratings across the range, heat pumps are an efficient heating solution for all business applications. Once installed, systems are highly responsive and easily controlled to ensure optimum indoor temperatures are maintained.”

The local company has been installing ‘air to air’ heat pumps for 25 years. For the last ten years, the company has been installing ‘air to water’ heat pumps in commercial and domestic properties.
