Marketing and Public Relations graduate Alex Adamo came from Italy to study at London Met. He is now an entrepreneur, negotiation consultant, behavioural coach and CEO of his own company, Adamo Enterprises. “I really enjoyed the practical aspects of the classes and learned how to be business-ready. My friends who remained in Italy studying the classic subjects are knowledgeable about different theories but are rather inexperienced when it comes to business practice.”

Journalism BA graduate Leanne Carr is a reporter at Retail Week, an industryleading b2b magazine. “Over the three years, I learnt everything there is to know about journalism. Outside the classroom
As well as providing the best possible education in the classroom, we’ll help you enhance your job prospects outside of the classroom too… Earn while you learn We can help you find paid roles that will look fantastic on your CV. Our very own in-house temping agency, Met Temps, can help you find a job on campus. You can also become a student ambassador or success coach, both of which are paid roles and a great way to earn a bit of extra cash while you study. All of these positions are paid the London Living Wage and will help you to develop the skills employers are looking for. We’ll also give you access to a portal where external graduate, placement, internship and part-time vacancies are advertised. Gain experience through volunteering Get involved in our vibrant volunteering programme and gain experience with community-based organisations. Volunteering is a great way to get work experience, develop job skills and give your CV a significant boost. Launch a successful business Accelerator is the part of the University that helps students start businesses or learn more about the world of entrepreneurship, start-ups, selfemployment and freelancing. It sits outside the curriculum, is non-academic and is based off campus in the heart of Shoreditch. As well as working with more than 1,000 students and graduates every year, Accelerator is also home to a thriving community of 30 innovative and

early-stage start-ups who have raised £14m in investment, generated £22m in revenue and created 90 new jobs in a single year. Being your own boss at university or following graduation can be hugely rewarding and a great way to take control of your future and do something you love. Accelerator will provide you with all the advice, tools, networks, knowledge and resources required to start a business in a supportive environment. Reasons to get involved with Accelerator: • Make money. We help students make extra money through freelancing or starting a business. • Skill up. Develop key entrepreneurial skills and mindsets that you’ll possess for life. • Boost your employability. Named as one of London’s most influential people in the Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 list for her contribution to advancing social equality is our very own Vice-Chancellor Lynn Dobbs. Her vision for London Met? To give more back to our city by focusing on real-world problems and striving for social inclusion, equality and diversity to ensure equal opportunities for all.
I feel as if coming to London has been an amazing adventure and I feel it the most when I go somewhere like St Paul’s or the South Bank… it’s breathtaking. I was born in Newcastle on an estate. I actually had good O level results but I didn’t stay on for A levels – it would never have occurred to me to go to university. After I had my children I went to Northumbria University as a mature student with a baby and a toddler. It became something that I realised I should have done. My husband and my mother were amazingly supportive – even though they didn’t have the faintest idea why I was doing it. I got a job at Newcastle University as a medical researcher (weird really) but I worked full-time and did my degree full-time. The job was quite flexible in terms of the hours – I could bank them in the summer holidays. I got the highest first-class degree ever awarded. I won an Economic and Social Research Council scholarship and I did my postgraduate qualifications at Newcastle University. While I was doing them, I started lecturing at Northumbria, taught politics there and I eventually got a permanent job. I set up the Centre for Public Policy – research into poverty and social inclusion. I never had any end plan but I just loved it. After working at Northumbria in various posts I became Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Roehampton. I was there for six years. When I heard that London Met’s Vice-Chancellor was leaving, I just went for it.
Lots of universities talk the talk about social justice but it isn’t just what’s said at London Met – it’s what’s believed and what happens here. The commitment to the students who haven’t reached their full potential at school or want to come back into education is massive. We provide opportunities. London Met is underpinned by a commitment to social justice that makes me feel really emotional and that really is what stands out. Our strategy is about giving back to our city by supporting our students, powering the labour market and tackling disadvantage and inequality in Islington, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and beyond. We are making a difference. Every one of the challenges in our strategy focuses on the issues affecting deprived communities: knife crime, drug usage, homelessness and the skills deficit. It’s a unique privilege to be able to lead an institution and know that you can make a huge difference to the lives and communities that the University serves. We’ve developed a student success strategy which has equality and social justice at its heart. A key focus will be on tackling the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) gaps in terms of continuation, achievement and progression into employment. We are going to eradicate the gaps or die trying. Studying is hard but has the potential to transform your life. Higher education transformed mine. Just do a subject that you love – get on the path, keep going and don’t look back.

n appetite for architecture and A interior design From Sir Christopher Wren’s famous St Paul’s Cathedral, the towering Shard, Walkie Talkie and iconic Gherkin, to the indulgent glamour of Indian restaurant chain Dishoom, there are plenty of architectural and interior designs to be inspired by in this great city. Many of them are also great places to go for dinner and drinks with your friends.
If photography is more your thing, you’ll have a never-ending supply of inspirational sights to capture, from iconic landmarks to gritty urban scenes.
Some of London’s buildings have even been designed by our lecturers and graduates. Damien Hirst’s gallery in Vauxhall was designed by architecture lecturer Peter St John and his architecture practice Caruso St John. It’s a work of art inside and out!
Alongside paid-for exhibitions, don’t forget that many of these fascinating institutions offer the chance to browse some of their collections for free.
Inspiration and opportunities for artists and photographers London is a hub of creativity, with galleries and museums for every artistic taste – visit the Tate Modern for contemporary art, photography and spectacular views of the Thames or head to Shoreditch and be greeted by striking street art at every turn. There is more inspiration on offer at the Tate Britain, which each year plays host to the innovative Turner Prize. Some of our graduates have even won the prestigious accolade! The Royal Academy summer exhibition, the world’s oldest open submission exhibition, is also a must see! If you’re studying an art-related course (or if you just fancy yourself as the next Picasso, Da Vinci or Emin) why not enter your work and join the plethora of artists, known and unknown, displaying the products of their creativity?

As a creative type, you’ll be in great company in London – some of the best museums and galleries in the world are based here and the capital has upwards of 850 art galleries in total to explore.
Catch the travel bug Getting around London is so simple, with buses and Tubes (many of which run throughout the night), bicycles, overground trains, river cruises, cable cars and more to take you from A to B. It’s so easy to travel across the city you may find people hopping on a Tube even when they don’t have to. Yes, there really are scavenger hunts that send you on challenges around the Underground network and, yes, they are exceptionally fun! At London Met you’re within easy reach of all major transport hubs, from trains to explore the UK at weekends, to London’s many airports. International students can easily get home to visit their friends and family but there’s nothing to stop anyone taking advantage of a cheap flight to Europe. The Eurostar just down the road in St Pancras will also get you to Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam in a matter of hours.

Getting down to business Every district’s a business district in London. London’s central business district is home to some of the biggest and most successful companies in the world, many of which have opened their doors to our students as part of our work-related learning module. The capital also plays host to lots of small independent businesses. Stroll around Spitalfields or Borough market, down Brick Lane or Notting Hill – these thriving marketplaces are buzzing with success and can give you your fill of homemade doughnuts, spicy falafel wraps and artisan pizza while you’re there… If you’re a budding entrepreneur, we offer plenty of opportunities to showcase your wares to the public. Accelerator’s Market Days and The Cass Christmas Cracker are opportunities for you to sell the products you’ve created and develop those all-important business skills.

London has it all for communications London is a communications hub and home to leading communications, PR and marketing agencies, as well as print and broadcast media, with TV stations including the BBC, Sky and ITV all based here. London leads the way in print journalism with everything from The Times and The Guardian – just down the road from us in King’s Cross – to the free daily Metro, Evening Standard and Time Out magazine. The museum brings five centuries of communications history to life. Golden opportunities for aspiring financial services professionals If finance is your thing, London is your city. Why not visit the imposing Bank of England and discover its history while learning more about money at the Bank’s museum? Here you can pick up an actual gold bar and discover why the building is on top of one the world’s largest stores of gold. Entry is free. Be entertained and entertain As one of the great theatre capitals of the world, London has plenty on offer to entertain you throughout the year – from the Bridge Theatre and National Theatre on the river to musicals in the West End. You can pick up cheap tickets on the day and up to a week in advance at Theatreland’s official ticket booth, TKTS. When it comes to comedy, London presents more live comedy than any other city in the world, from hosting new talent in the backrooms of pubs to the likes of Chris Rock and Steve Coogan in major arenas. More than 250 festivals take place in London every year including the largest free festival, the Mayor’s Thames Festival, and Europe’s biggest street festival, the Notting Hill Carnival, which attracts close to one million people. There are also smaller ones near our campuses such as the Angel Canal Festival.

If you’re on a budget, you can catch a £1 movie in the Prince Charles cinema or see a play in the fascinating setting of Shakespeare’s Globe, where standing tickets can be bought for just £5. Strike a healthy balance If you’re interested in health, fitness or wellbeing, you have a wealth of options to choose from in London, from museums to health food festivals such as Fare Healthy, Balance and So Organic. The Wellcome Collection is a free museum and library dedicated to the relationship between medicine, art and life. For sports enthusiasts, London is home to some of the UK’s best-known sporting venues. Whether it’s cricket at the Oval, Twickenham’s rugby, football at Wembley or the world’s oldest tennis tournament, Wimbledon, there’s live sporting action for everyone to enjoy across the capital. Get fit – for free We run an extensive programme of fitness classes with a variety of exercise, holistic and recreational sports including handball, pilates and boxfit. Our facilities are excellent and include gyms with state-of-theart cardio equipment, a full-sized basketball court complete with scoreboard, a dance studio and a fitness studio. We also run a health and wellbeing programme with personal training, mindfulness and yoga classes among others. Our staff are always helpful and friendly, and will happily give you information on the classes and how to become a member. Some events to look out for: • Freshers’ fortnight: A whole two weeks of special events for new students on our campuses including at The Rocket – events often include club nights, comedy, live music, pub quizzes and much more. • Music, nights out and themed parties: The Rocket is the best place to hear new urban music from the freshest DJs. Are you a budding DJ? Get involved! The Rocket has also held events for international students as well as theme nights such as the prohibition party and the summer ball. In previous years, we’ve had special appearances from the likes of Tinie Tempah, Roll Deep, Jodie Connor and Hotsteppa. Food and drink on campus There are plenty of places to get food and drink on and around our campuses, whether you need a breakfast pit stop, full-on lunch or quick caffeine fix. Our Holloway outlets include The Junction and Highbury Canteen, and you’ll find an on-campus café at Aldgate. We’re also a Fairtrade university. Outdoor areas We have several areas where you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Our Holloway campus has a courtyard complete with deck chairs and table tennis. We may be urban in location, but we have a green heart – you’ll find 40,000 bees on our roof, a large pond complete with ducklings in the spring and two roof gardens. You can even join our gardening club. English language requirements As well as meeting our academic requirements, you may need to show that you meet our English language requirements. This may mean you’ll need to get a recognised English language qualification such as IELTS, Pearson, Cambridge or TOEFL. For further details about our requirements, please check our website. If you don’t think you’ll quite meet these requirements, we also offer a presessional English programme, which runs for five weeks or 10 weeks before your course, depending on your current level of English.

Tuition fees
All of our courses are available to start in September and some are also available to start in January. Most courses are available to study either full-time or part-time.
Tuition fees are regulated by the UK government. At the time of publication, tuition fees for 2021-22 have not yet been confirmed. Fees for each of our courses are published on our online course pages when they’re available. This includes fees for international students. Fees are reviewed annually and are likely to change to take into account inflationary increases.
Our degrees with a foundation year offer a route into degree-level study if you don’t meet the entry requirements for a standard undergraduate degree. If you already have a foundation degree, Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification, a top-up degree allows you to upgrade to a full undergraduate degree. Top-up degrees are also ideal if you’re interested in studying your final year in London.

Our architecture and interior design students are taught in The Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design (The Cass), where you’ll have access to your own studio space and be inspired by world-class architects and designers, while also having the opportunity to work on live projects and exhibit your work across the capital. Our architecture graduates often go on to complete their RIBA Part 2 and 3, allowing them to register as an Architect. However, many of our other architecture graduates go on to join a wide range of creative professions. Our interiors graduates mainly go on to work within the interiors industry but a large number also work within the film, theatre and illustration industries. We have graduates who are interior designers working at the highest level globally within interior and architectural practices, graduates changing perceptions working on Italy’s first ever Starbucks, and as entrepreneurs.

Our art and photography courses are taught in The Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design (The Cass) where our students have access to outstanding facilities. These include inspiring studio spaces and workshops, photography studios and darkrooms, specialist facilities including wood, metal, print and ceramics workshops, fashion and textiles studios, and media production and digital manufacturing technologies. Our graduates have gone on to be successful in a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, etching and engraving, installation and more. Many have also won prestigious awards including the Royal Academy’s British Institution Award, the John Ruskin Drawing Prize and the ARTIQ Graduate Art Prize. As well as having opportunities to exhibit their work during their course, our graduates have gone on to exhibit in galleries all over the world including in Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam, New York, Milan and Singapore. Many of our graduates have also seen their work on display in the UK – at the National Portrait Gallery, Ashmolean Museum, V&A, British Library and as part of the Government Art Collection.

Artist Samuel Eyles studied London Met’s Fine Art BA. With access to state-of-the-art studios and outstanding lecturers, he was able to find his own unique style and build up a body of work that is already making an impact in the art world. As well as exhibiting at numerous fairs and exhibitions, Samuel has had his work featured in The Guardian – opportunities that pave the way for his continued success.
I chose to study at London Met because it was running a degree with a fast-track foundation year starting in February, which was perfect timing for me (I’d decided I wanted to go back to education in January) – plus I was living in Limehouse at the time, so the location was ideal. There were opportunities to engage with industry professionals and enter competitions. The facilities were very good and they were able to aid me in every area of my practice. The relationships across the different departments are strong and everybody is friendly and happy to help. I was impressed. What I loved most about the BA course was the completely diverse collection of people on it. I also loved the tutors and the teaching style and during my time studying made strong connections and built important relationships. These are of course beneficial in both life and particularly in my career.
I took so much from my time at The Cass; the lecturers are incredibly engaged, the weeks are very focused and the studio sizes are fantastic. This is something that I know is lacking at a lot of other art schools. I learnt a great deal about my field through carefully crafted seminars and I was able to develop and evolve my style with excellent guidance and clarity. In the first year my good friend and fellow student James Johnston and I organised a life-drawing class for students to participate in every week. It was a good opportunity to gain experience in running a class (as we both had aspirations of teaching at the time) and also to improve upon technique and better our skills. During his studies, Events Management BA graduate Damiano La Rocca became involved with Accelerator, a strand of London Met that offers students guidance for turning their ideas into a thriving business.
Damiano used the advice and mentoring he received at Accelerator to start his own business, Seable. Now a five-star business on Google, Seable creates active holidays for those with visual and physical impairments. At London Met I was given the tools and inspiration to start on my own rather than aim for a job as an employee. I took a module called Sustainable Tourism and, in my final year, I wrote my dissertation about accessible tourism and realised that there was a gap in the market. I submitted an idea to Accelerator and they approved it. Accelerator then gave me the tools to start my business and the academic staff gave me skills such as how to undertake research and presentations. The diverse background of the businesses at Accelerator keeps us up to date with the latest innovations in the different sectors, giving the basic knowledge for every part of the business and free advice from colleague entrepreneurs. The topics that London Met runs through Accelerator form the basis of what to do when opening a business. Everyone should know a bit of sales, marketing and accountancy in order to start a business. Leanne Carr moved to London after graduating from drama school, before having a change of heart and applying to the Journalism BA course at London Met. She’s now a reporter at Retail Week, an industry leading b2b magazine. Leanne took some time out of her busy schedule to tell us about her time with London Met.
Over the three years, I learnt everything there is to know about journalism. Not just how to write, but other invaluable skills such as presenting, editing, how to use design software, media law and interview skills. We were always able to hire and loan camera equipment when needed and it was great having an onsite TV and radio studio. Although the library is great, I much preferred using the reporters’ room that was exclusively for journalism students and had the right computers and programmes available at all times. I was involved with Verve magazine from first year and was made editor in my second and third years. The skills I learnt from putting the magazine together are things that people are actively seeking in job applications. It really put me above others when applying for jobs. Even though technically I was a mature student I didn’t feel mature. I was slightly nervous to begin with about other students younger than me but was pleasantly surprised to find students the same age and older. There is constant support if you need it – London Met is a university that gives mature students a second chance. I honestly believe if I hadn’t gone to university as a mature student, I wouldn’t have done as well as I did. 84 londonmet.ac.uk

Furniture and Product Design BA graduate Yinka Ilori was named London’s most influential visual designer in 2019 (Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 List). His vibrant installation Colour Palace welcomed visitors to the Dulwich Picture Gallery in the summer of the same year. Yinka specialises in upcycling vintage furniture, inspired by the traditional Nigerian parables and African fabrics that surrounded him as a child.

Furniture designer Moe Redish Furniture graduate

Making furniture out of the V&A’s old packing crates for homeless people to take with them into temporary accommodation is just one of furniture maker and designer Moe Redish’s award-winning solutions. Moe has worked closely with Joined+Jointed, Help Refugees and 999club as well as undertaking private commission work. He studied for a Furniture degree (now Furniture and Product Design BA), and his awards and nominations include the Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 list and being shortlisted for the Young Furniture Makers Award in 2018 and 2019.
My degree taught me some essentials of setting up and running a business. Partnered with trial and error, I’ve slowly made my way closer to successfully keeping everything in check. After I graduated, I did a Quickstart course at Accelerator (London Met’s business incubator), which really helped with techniques like how to set up a small business and how to use social media. My final project at The Cass was a brief set by a graduate of the University, designer and business owner Samuel Chan. The project was to design a workstation for his contemporary furniture brand Joined+Jointed, in which my design, a desk called Slide was chosen to be the winner and put into production with the company. I made up the prototype using poplar (a relatively cheap wood) but now the real thing can be bought either in walnut or oak. The lecturers at The Cass really helped us find these opportunities and put us in touch with the right people. I liked the idea of moving to London and after visiting The Cass and meeting some of the tutors I felt it would be the right fit for my working style. The facilities available to the students were also an enormous selling point. I really loved the permanent studio space you had as a student – and also working alongside my peers, whether in the workshop making or
the studio discussing ideas – I really missed that student community when I graduated. That’s why it’s so nice now to be working as part of a collective. Two are also London Met furniture graduates. There are lots of other benefits to a collective too, like the shared equipment, less materials waste and the ideas and different learning techniques you pick up from working alongside each other. My experiences with the tutors, technicians and lecturers at the University were great. We received so much individual support – they were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and always willing to give up their time for you – and were really helpful with the networks of people they could put you in touch with. The creativity around the projects and briefs never failed to hold my attention. A special credit I would say is owed to the technicians who would often offer tuition on machining, timber species and endless other making techniques, despite them not strictly being tutors. They still help us out now. Go in open minded and, if possible, explore areas outside of your discipline. I found myself in the jewellery and ceramic departments regularly throughout my time at The Cass. Read more about our Furniture and Product Design BA (Hons) on page 89.

My course offered so much variety and it provided opportunities to meet and work with all sorts of people from the industry. Already I’ve taken part in filming for an animated film being produced for Camden Council. I’ve also helped to run a theatre workshop for Clean Break – a women’s theatre company that helps to change lives, working with women who are ex-offenders or who come from a difficult background. I attended the Bilingual Acting Workshop in Paris with one of my course tutors and some classmates. This was an intensive acting workshop with three amazing American tutors. I like that we got to meet and work with different people such as writers, directors, actors, producers and various teachers. I also like that we got to try out different things such as puppetry, acting, dance, voice, set building, tech, directing, marketing and dramaturgy. We visited amazing places too – I’ve been to the National Theatre Studios, the Royal Court Theatre and Paris to name a few. Working as a success coach for the University was fun and interesting. I wanted to be a success coach because I want students to have a friendly face to turn to if they’re worried about something. I think it’s good for students to have people to talk to without fear of being judged. The openness of London Met surprised me a bit. You’re encouraged to try new things and if they fail, then that’s ok! Because it’s a small group of students working closely together, we’re honestly like a little family, which is lovely!

I’ve always wanted to be an actor and being at London Met has only cemented that further. However, working with companies such as Clean Break, I’ve discovered that I’m interested in drama therapy and helping people. Sports Therapy BSc graduate Sharon Heidaripour went on to become a rehabilitator of elite athletes for FIFA and Arsenal Academy. She now runs her own business.
I’ve been pursuing my dreams, working in football as a sports therapist and fitness coach. This is mainly in men’s football, with under sevens to under 18s, as well as with senior players ranging from grassroots level, through non-league and premier league academy clubs such as Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC, all the way up to international level. I have also been working in international settings, with roles at the Caribbean Cup, Women’s Euro, Women’s World Cups and the 2012 London Olympics. I’ve also completed a master’s in football rehabilitation and have been working as a personal trainer, training the non-football population, mainly for weight loss and injury rehabilitation. I always wanted my own business and to be my own boss, so it was just a matter of time. I have been self-employed during most of my sports therapy career and it made sense to take it to the next level. At the moment I am in the process of expanding it, so it’s exciting times! A typical working day would start around 7am and go on until 11pm; sometimes it starts earlier and finishes later. During this time I do a mixture of work depending on the individual’s needs. There’s a lot of tapings, strappings, injury treatments, recovery sessions, yoga therapy, mentoring, writing reports etc. I also assist with daily training sessions, fitness assessments and overall mental and physical support. Although it’s non-stop, it’s such a great positive working environment, I love it! I was born in Iran, but brought up in Sweden from a young age. I moved to London at the age
of 20 to study English for six months, but fell in love with London and 15 years on I am still here. My biggest passion in life is football; I played as a youth and was on a scholarship at an academy in Sweden and my biggest dream was to become a professional player; however my career and dream ended due to severe knee injuries. Years later I decided to follow up on my dream – I realised I could still reach the top by working with professional players. I appreciated that helping them to achieve their goals would also allow me to reach my ‘old’ dream. It was a no-brainer – I looked up courses and found sports therapy. It really appealed to me since it was a sport-specific course. All the modules sounded very interesting, and London Met seemed like a very good university. I loved the course; there were an equal number of males and females and I made many good friends for life. The facilities were great, and there were lots of opportunities to do work experience. The (sports therapy) clinic was great because we could practise hands-on work such as injury assessments, manual and electro therapy, gymbased exercises, and in the big sports hall we used to go through all the functional rehab exercises and other creative practical work. I also enjoyed social nights at The Rocket, the sports days (I used to coach the ladies football team) and all the fantastic people I met. Similar to a debate, this allows you to take part in a simulated court experience and compete with other top law students around the country. Khalid went on to become a cargo adviser at Virgin Atlantic after graduating from our Airline, Airport and Aviation Management BSc. Here he talks about working for the British airline and how London Met helped him get there.
I am currently working as a cargo adviser within the cargo distribution and customer service department at Virgin Atlantic. My role includes facilitating customer requests and management of free-sale bookings. It also involves negotiating rates for ad-hoc bookings. This is quite a varied and interesting role – one minute I could be quoting on a 10-tonne shipment of flowers cross-Atlantic, the next I could be booking a small envelope from Johannesburg to London. Dealing primarily with business-to-business queries, it is very interesting to see another side of an airline. Virgin Atlantic is a very fun and enjoyable company to be working for. Not only is my role very interesting but the whole atmosphere is very positive at the Virgin head office, or VHQ as we call it. We have a huge open-plan office and we all hot desk. The best part of this, of course, is meeting colleagues from the different departments and making friends across all the different teams. We’re also quite well looked after – I have put on quite a lot of weight since starting here (I blame the doughnuts and sweets that are always shared across the office, whether it be because we are celebrating a birthday or just having fun – we very often run out of excuses for all these treats). We also have an on-site gym and we have our own wellbeing team who try to look after our health for us.
I don’t believe I would have been able to get here without the support of the London Met family. My lecturers were very supportive and helped me reach my true potential. The careers and employability team also provided some very important workshops that I attended; they were all about interview techniques and how to make my CV shine. On my first day I met a pilot who had actually studied at London Met quite a few years ago. He too told me about the support he received from London Met, which involved more than just academic knowledge. Studying a degree at London Met is an investment in your future. According to the Office for National Statistics, graduates earn significantly more than non-graduates, so investing in a degree now can pay off later.
How much will my course cost if I start in September 2021 or January 2022? Tuition fees are regulated by the UK government. At the time of publication, tuition fees for 2021-22 have not yet been confirmed. Fees for each of our courses are published on our online course pages when they’re available. This includes fees for international students. Fees are reviewed annually and are likely to change to take into account inflationary increases. Please check our course web pages for fees before applying to the University. londonmet.ac.uk/courses Information for EU students At the time of publication, the fee status for EU nationals wishing to study in the UK from 2021 onwards is still unclear. What funding is available? If you’re a UK student, you may be able to borrow money to help cover your fees. At the time of publication funding arrangements for students starting in 2021–22, including the availability of student loans for EU students, have not been confirmed. Please check the government’s Student Finance website for the latest details and to find out if you’re eligible. If you’re eligible for a tuition fee loan, you usually don’t need to pay back your loan until you have completed your course and are earning £21,000 or more per year. There are also other sources of funding to help you pay your living costs (these are usually means-tested). Applying to us is easy. Simply choose a course, check the entry requirements and follow the relevant instructions below. How you apply depends on the course, whether you’re planning to start in September or January, and whether you’d like to study full-time or part-time.
Degrees starting in September If you’re from the UK or EU and want to study full-time starting in September, you’ll need to apply via the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). The UCAS code for your chosen course can be found in the fees and key information section on the relevant course page on our website. You’ll also need a university UCAS code when going through the application process. Our code is L68. Degrees starting in January Many of our courses give you the option to start in January rather than September – check the online course page for details. To start a degree in January, you can apply directly to London Met or make an application through UCAS (see above). Please see the “Applying direct” section for details about how to make a direct online application. Part-time courses If you wish to study part-time (starting in either September or January), you can apply directly to London Met. Please see the “Applying direct” section for details. Please note, if you require a Tier 4 visa you won’t be able to study on a part-time basis.
International students Non-UK and non-EU applicants applying to study full-time may choose to apply via UCAS or apply directly to the University. Applying direct To apply directly to us, follow these simple instructions: • Choose a course. • View the course information, including the entry requirements, and click on the “Apply direct” button. • Register your details with London Met and complete the online application form. What you’ll need to complete your application When completing the application form, you’ll need to have the following information at the ready: • Your home address • Your qualifications (including dates achieved, name and subject of qualification, and overall grades) • Your employment history • GCSE English and Maths (if applicable) qualifications (or equivalent) • Contact details for two referees, preferably email addresses

Required documentation When you’re completing your application, you’ll be given the option to upload copies of your qualifications, a CV and any other relevant documents. Please ensure that you’ve provided the correct email address – we’ll send you a confirmation email when you’ve successfully completed the application process. We may also need to email you when assessing your application or to ask to see copies of your qualifications. This is especially important when applying for credit from previous studies. If you’re applying to us directly, you can assist us by uploading copies of these documents with your application form. Documents in a foreign language If your qualifications aren’t in English, you may need to supply a certified translation of your documents. For advice on translation services please contact your embassy. Please remember to send copies of your qualifications, not the original documents. We will ask for original copies of your qualifications at enrolment only. Personal statements As part of your application, you will be required to complete a detailed personal statement explaining your reasons for choosing the course and your interests in the area. We look for students who can demonstrate their enthusiasm, experience and passion for the subject.

When to apply We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Although we don’t have a specific closing date for applications, places on our courses are offered on a first-come, first served basis. If you’re applying for a full-time undergraduate degree course starting in September, you should ideally apply through UCAS before the January deadline. Following the January deadline, it is still possible to apply through UCAS up until 30 June, but apply early to secure your place. International student application deadlines can be found on our website: londonmet.ac.uk/international Applying after 30 June to start in September of the same year If you’re applying for a full-time degree course starting in September after 30 June, you can apply directly to London Met through our Clearing process. Entry requirements You’ll find entry requirements for your course on our online course pages. For most courses you’ll need to hold a Level 3 qualification, meaning you’ll need to have at least one of these combinations of qualifications (or equivalent): • Two GCE A level or Vocational A level passes • Three GCE A level or Vocational A level passes • Five passes in the Scottish Qualifications Certificate, of which two are at Higher grade or passes in four subjects, all of which are at Higher grade • A pass in an Access course recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and designed to provide a preparation for higher education • A pass in a foundation course in art and design validated by Edexcel • The award of the Diploma of the International Baccalaureate • A pass of 60% in the European Baccalaureate • The Irish Leaving Certificate with passes at grade C or above in five subjects • The award of an Edexcel QCF Diploma or Certificate Visit the relevant online course page for specific subjects or grades you might need. In some cases other qualifications certified by the admissions tutor as being of equivalent standard will also be accepted.
GCSE requirements In addition to the requirements listed opposite, we normally require three passes at GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above including English Language and, where required, Maths, or at grade 4 or above for applicants sitting GCSEs post-2017. English language requirements To study at London Met you must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. You’ll need to have at least one of the following: • A pass in GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or above • Level 2/3 communications key skills • IELTS test at band 6.0 or above with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component • Academic Pearsons Test of English (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 53 • A pass in the University’s English test • An equivalent qualification as judged by the authorised admitting officer in accordance with the advice of the University’s international advisers If you can’t meet the entry requirements... If you have relevant professional qualifications or extensive professional experience you may be able to gain entry to your chosen course based on the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired prior to studying. Applicants with these types of qualifications or experience will usually be considered on a case-bycase basis.

Tracking your application… ...When applying direct If you’ve applied direct you can track your direct application on our applicant portal. Details of this will be sent to you once we’ve received your application. We aim to make a decision within two to three working weeks of receipt of your application, although processing times may vary slightly depending on the time of year. ...When applying through UCAS If you’ve applied through UCAS, you can track your application and reply to offers via UCAS’s tracking service, UCAS Track. We’ll email you to notify you of our decision. For courses that require an interview, application decisions may take a little longer, as will those for students seeking direct entry to the second or third year of an undergraduate course. Interviews Wherever possible, we aim to make a decision based on the information provided on your application. However, you may be invited to attend an interview to discuss your application further with a tutor.
