Foundation year degrees If your qualifications differ from the ones we accept or if you don’t meet the entry requirements for a particular bachelor’s degree, you may still be able to gain entry by completing a foundation year degree. These are four-year courses with an intensive foundation year (Year 0), allowing you to build the skills required to progress onto one of our bachelor’s degree courses. We offer foundation year programmes in a huge range of subject areas, including many of the subjects listed in our undergraduate degree section.
We also offer some broader foundation year degrees that allow you to study a foundation year and then choose your specialism for your final three years of study. These include: Art and design Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Health, Psychology) Social Sciences and Humanities
Top-up degrees If you already have a foundation degree, Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification, you may want to consider upgrading to a full undergraduate degree by studying a top-up degree at London Met. A top-up degree is the final year (Level 6) of an undergraduate degree course and allows you to top up your existing qualification to a full BA, BSc or BEng degree.

Our campuses are at the heart of one of the world’s most exciting cities and can currently be found on Holloway Road in Islington, north London, and in Aldgate, east London. Our art, architecture and design courses are taught at our Aldgate campus, with other subjects taught at our Holloway campus.
There are a number of places within the University to pick up a tasty snack and take a break. Grab a coffee for less at one of our on-campus cafés or enjoy a toasted panini at The Junction. Our impressive Highbury Canteen offers healthy main meals at student-friendly prices, so there’s always somewhere to refuel between lectures. If you’re a nature lover, you may like to spend some time in one of our roof gardens. You can even enjoy a spot of gardening or pay our 40,000 bees a visit.
No matter what you choose to study we strive to ensure you have access to the best facilities – from our £30 million Science Centre and purposebuilt art and design studios to a mock courtroom and newsroom. Student hubs Our student hubs are your first point of contact for any query you may have in person, by telephone or via email. Your student hub is also the gateway to accessing the wealth of support services offered by the University. You can book an appointment to get advice on a wide range of matters including accommodation, finance and career support.

Our student venue at Holloway Road, The Rocket, is a great place to meet up with friends, play some shots at pool, or simply relax between lectures. It has a lovely outdoor courtyard, with some resident ducks, or you can stay indoors and get cosy on the sofas. The Rocket also hosts all the best student parties and a variety of other gigs and events throughout the year.
Campus discounts You will have access to exclusive discounts on food and drink, and entry to campus events via our Metcard app, which is free! Fitness facilities Whatever sport you’re into, there’s bound to be something for you here. Make the most of our gym, enormous sports hall, dance studios and a variety of recreational and holistic classes – from spinning to pilates. Student membership is free of charge for London Met students and gives you access to the Holloway fitness gym and unlimited access to timetabled classes. Subject-specific facilities At London Met we invest in you. The University boasts state-of-the-art learning, library and IT facilities where you can hone your skills – from a mock courtroom, purpose-built art, design and recording
studios to a £100,000 journalism newsroom and £30 million Science Centre, which is one of the largest and most advanced science teaching labs in Europe. If you’re interested in studying a financerelated subject, we are one of the few universities that will offer you the chance to directly use Bloomberg data, information and analytics throughout your studies in our Bloomberg Room. At London Met we also have some of the most advanced Cisco labs in London – an excellent opportunity to learn about networks. For our students at our art, architecture and design school The Cass, we provide a unique resource called Cass Works. It provides students with access to specialist workshops and resources in everything from ceramics to woodwork as well as expert technical staff to help you explore the facilities. 17

Halls of residence Halls of residence are a great way to meet fellow students. We work with a number of different accommodation providers to suit all tastes and budgets. You may decide you’d rather rent a flat privately through a landlord or letting agent, either on your own or with a few friends. Don’t forget to factor utility bills, your TV licence (if you want one) and contents insurance into your budget. We can provide advice about where to look for properties, rental contracts, viewings and deposits.
We can provide advice on hotels, hostels, B&Bs and short-stay private accommodation. There are also several halls that offer single-semester contracts or contracts of a flexible length.
Other options Homestays are an option for all students looking for a supportive environment and are a great way for you, as an international student, to improve your language skills if needed, as you’ll be placed with a British family.

Visa and immigration advice You may need a visa in order to travel to the UK. It is important that you choose the correct visa route based on your main purpose for visiting. It isn’t possible to study on a standard visitor visa so you should obtain either a Tier 4 student visa or a shortterm study visa. The standard visitor visa is the appropriate visa if you need to come to the UK to attend an interview for a place on your course at London Met but it would not allow you to remain in the UK to start your studies. Visas Moving to London to study is exciting but there is a lot to organise before you set off. As an international student you may need a visa in order to travel to the UK. If you’re coming to study with us for longer than six

months and you’re a national of a country outside the EEA and Switzerland, you will need to obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa. Please note, the Tier 4 (General) visa route is mainly for full-time courses, though some part-time courses may also be permissible. If in doubt, please contact our International Advice team by emailing internationaladvice@londonmet.ac.uk. You may also seek advice on how many hours you can work during term time and official vacation periods, the types of work you can and cannot do including advice on bringing dependents to live with you in the UK. Before applying for your visa
Immigration Health Surcharge
• If you need a Tier 4 visa for your course, you need to first obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter.
Currently, an Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) of £300 per year is applicable if you’re studying a course lthat is longer than six months. The fee applies per 12 month period of your visa and each six month period is £150. This entitles you to use the National Health Service (NHS) at no extra cost during your stay in the UK. The fee for IHS will increase to £470 per 12 month period from October 2020. You can find out more information about this on our website.

We believe that the more involved you are in student life, the more you get out of your experience of studying with us. Whatever your interests, there are many stimulating and fun ways to get stuck in at London Met. Joining a society, taking up a new sport or getting involved in a campaign is a great way to learn different skills, become part of university life and make new friends. Students’ Union The Students’ Union (SU) is the place to go to immerse yourself in university life. Fill your free time at The Rocket The Rocket is our fabulous student venue offering club nights, karaoke, quizzes, comedy, movie screenings and more. You’ll find anything from cocktail-making masterclasses to circus skills workshops. During freshers’ fortnight we host special events for new students. Outdoor areas Our Holloway campus has a courtyard complete with deck chairs and table tennis. We may be in an urban location but we have a green heart – you’ll find 40,000 bees on our roof, a large pond complete with ducklings in the spring and a roof garden at each campus.
Being a student in London London is one of the most exciting, vibrant, cosmopolitan cities in the world. It’s a place to explore, socialise and have fun, but it’s also a city where you can excel, progress and make huge strides forward in your career. • Be entertained and entertain – as one of the great theatre capitals of the world, London has plenty on offer to entertain you throughout the year – from the Bridge Theatre and National Theatre on the river to plays and musicals in the West End. • Explore street life – over 250 festivals take place in London every year including the largest free festival, the Mayor’s Thames Festival, and Europe’s biggest street festival, the Notting Hill Carnival, which attracts close to one million people.

International students can easily get home to visit their friends and family, or take advantage of one of the cheap flights to Europe. The Eurostar just down the road in St Pancras will get you to Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam in a matter of hours. • Creative opportunities – some of the best museums and galleries in the world are based in London and the capital has upwards of 850 art galleries in total to explore. If you are interested in shaping your future as a designer, you can get swept up in the buzz around London Fashion Week with displays from top British designers and see exciting innovation at South Kensington’s Design Museum and the London Design Festival. 27
Fees and funding How much you pay in tuition fees depends on which country you come from and what course you choose to study. Deposits If you’re a student in need of a Tier 4 student visa you may be required to pay a deposit prior to the disbursement of your loan in order to secure a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is needed to obtain your visa. Early payment discount You can save 3% on your course fees by paying early. A 3% discount is available on the fee (less any bursary) if annual fees are paid in full by or at enrolment when enrolling on a course starting in the autumn semester (September) or in the spring semester (January)*.

US financial aid Full-time applicants with US citizenship can apply for the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program to help cover the cost of tuition and maintenance for eligible undergraduate or postgraduate courses. Direct loans are disbursed in multiple equal amounts and are sent directly to the University after enrolment and placed in your student account as stipulated by federal law. The amount you can borrow depends on a number of factors, including your level of study and any previous direct loans.
Scholarships • International Excellence Scholarship – this is a merit-based scholarship for undergraduate and postgraduate international students. The award is £2,500 off the first year’s tuition fees. This scholarship has limited numbers and cannot be combined with any other scholarships. • The Sir John Cass International Scholarship – this is a merit-based scholarship for undergraduate international students. The award is £3,000 off the first year’s tuition fees. This scholarship has limited numbers and cannot be combined with any other scholarships. How to apply Undergraduate applicants
English language requirements
If you’re from outside the EU and you’re applying to study full time, you may choose to apply via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) or apply directly to the University. If you’re from the EU, you need to submit your application via UCAS.
To study at London Met you must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Our requirements vary depending on the course. You don’t need to provide proof of English language if you have lived and studied in a country where the main language is English (eg the US, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland). If you require a Tier 4 student visa you may also need to provide a Secure English Language Test (SELT) such as Academic IELTS.
Postgraduate applicants If you’re applying for a postgraduate course you can apply directly to the University via our website. Entry requirements In order to gain entry to one of our courses you’ll need to meet our minimum entry requirements. We regulate our academic entry criteria with reference to UK NARIC, the UK’s National Agency responsible for providing information and opinion on vocational, academic and professional international qualifications. Pre-sessional English If you’re worried about your level of English or you don’t meet the English language entry criteria, you can apply to study one of our Pre-sessional English Language courses. They will prepare you for entry on
