A new work by George Lewis The London Sinfonietta’s mini festival ‘Mix’, taking place at The Coronet Theatre, 6pm on Sunday 3 April, explores the fascinating possibilities that arise when different genres collide. Pioneering festival curator Ilan Volkov is renowned for his experimental collaborations and unique approach to programming, both of which feature in this special Blue Touch Paper event, with Volkov at its helm. As part of this project, the London Sinfonietta has commissioned George Lewis to write a new piece for solo guitar and ensemble, to be premiered by improvisatory guitarist Fred Frith alongside pieces by Fausto Romitelli, Cassandra Miller, Martin Smolka and Christian Marclay.

George Lewis (1952–) George Lewis is a composer, electronic performer, installation artist and scholar with a great focus on experimental music and improvisation. In 2002, he recieved a MacArthur Fellowship - a prize awarded to those who have shown ‘extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction’. Currently a Professor of American Music at Columbia University, Lewis is a major composer whose utilisation of spontaneity creates a musical dialogue unique to each performance.
