LSS Newsletter Issue 04 Mar 03.03.12 Dear London Speedlite Scene (LSS) I know you have all been eagerly awaiting our 4th publication of the LSS Newsletter. We hope you feel you haven’t had to wait too long, it has been exactly 21 days since our last issue which has been viewed an impressive 25,376 times. LSS would like to thank and welcome Allan BANNERWORX Brown to LSS. Allan is a fantastic videographer & photographer who is working very closely with the LSS community. With a dedicated videographer attending the events and meetups LSS will continue to raise awareness of everyone’s work and provide it’s members with the exposure they deserve. DOLLS DOLLS DOLLS - February was a very busy month for LSS with two events passing successfully. The first was the Arabic & Asian inspired Studio Event which was the 3 rd event to be held at the LSS Studio in Brixton. The second event was the Dolly inspired photoshoot that took place at the Arbat Russian Restaurant for LSS Meetups no. 14. With such trendy themes the popularity of London Speedlite Scene continues to rise which we can only attribute that to the active members who make the events so enjoyable to attend. NEWS LSS Meetup No.14: Arbat Russian Restaurant (Dolly Dare Collection) 25/02/12 The 14th LSS Meetup was a great event however it took place at an emergency location for which we are grateful for (Arbat Restaurant) as the original venue had cancelled due to licensing issues. For this the photographers, MUA’s and model’s reliability and commitment are hugely appreciated as this last minute change could have resulted in our first cancelled event. The photographers were amazing as to be expected a lot of creative images were produced for what was considered a medium sized location. We like to thank the MUA’s for working collectively and turning out the models who had turned up in dominant numbers. For this a great big thank you goes out to Sue-Ellen for working with a large quantity of models and assisting right up until the end of the meetup. Also a great big thank you to Nazrin Elmes who provided LSS with the wardrobe provided by Dolly Dare. Dolly Dare is a great fashion outlet who have two boutiques in London, one at 37 Marshall Street, Soho and the other at Spitalfields, 107a Commercial Street. NEWS LSS Studio Event No. 3: Asian & Middle Eastern Courtesan Shoot 19/02/12 Specific ‘themes’ seem to be very much the trend for LSS Meetups and Studio Events. The 3rd Studio Event held by LSS entertained a very bold and beautiful nostalgic Asian and Middle Eastern theme focusing on the allurement and mystery surrounding courtesans. The shoot lasted the whole day with 4 separate slots for shooting time. Shooting lasted approx 2 hours for each slot with models sharing the time individually and by collaborating on set together. We welcomed back makeup artist Jo Jo Lee for this photoshoot with special thanks to Anna Sha for providing the wardrobe and Barbara Rowe for lending us the props.

Firstly the good news is that Claudia Ornelas has been concentrating on her studies recently and has put a hold on her modelling for this reason. The sad news is that we wont be seeing her for sometime until she is free to modelling again. The door will always be open for Claudia. We feel she has made the right choice and would like to wish her all the best with her educational aspirations.

Personality Profile: Monika Schaible If you ever attend an LSS Event you will see an energetic lady with blonde hair, camera in hand and a sweet German accent. Her name is Monika Schaible, and we interviewed her shortly before putting this issue of the LSS newsletter to press. LSS - How did I get interested in photography? Monika - I discovered my love for photography when I was in my early twenties when I choose photography as an Art A level. I had a Ricoh SLR and shot in black and white. Photography gave me a focus to learn about myself - what I felt drawn to and what it reflected in me. About a year ago I had a chance meeting with a LSS photo shoot at the Southbank, Skate Park and in an instant I realised the fantastic opportunities of this meet-up group. I love the friendly competition of the group, the support and sharing of knowledge and skills. LSS - What make and model camera do you use? Monika - Currently I use a Canon 5D MII LSS - How many lenses do you own? Monika - I own 4 lenses, all canon lenses. I have a 50mm 1.4, a 70-200mm 2.8, a wide angle lens 16-35mm and a portrait lens 100mm 2.8 LSS - What is the most challenging thing or person I have had to photograph? Monika - People are always a challenge for me, especially when I don't have a previous relationship I can build on. But in a way I welcome this as it adds to be fully present in the moment, to cut out the mind chatter and allow the magic to happen. Monika Schaible

We asked the LSS Model of 2011 Tequila Gold to describe the inspiration for her styling in this intriguing photo taken by Nick Haigh.
Tequila G - I was trying to create a different persona altogether- not just clothes for a model but a certain 'look' and 'attitude'. Something fuss free yet strong and powerful. The outfit is simple- black colours, latex and gloves yet combined with silk and feathered top and jewels it's less 'dominatrix' and more 'ladylike', something with loads of attitude yet 'soft'. Like all my styling this outfit was put together around a character I wanted to create- not just something thrown together to fit the theme or location. It's about wearing an outfit and not letting it 'wear you'!
