Come and share in a performance of traditional songs from the Comoros Islands performed by a community group of mothers, teenagers and children from Marseille, France, in a cultural exchange as part of the LSO’s residency in Aix-en-Provence. Bring the whole family to share in this cherished passing of cultural memories from one generation to the next.
Join Vanessa King and LSO players as they re-tell a popular children’s story through music. Hear how the instruments tell a story and help Vanessa by joining in with all the songs and musical games we come across on our journey.
Music workshops for 1- to 5-year-olds
Join the Early Years team and LSO musicians in these interactive, creative music sessions. LSO and Guildhall School musicians explore American music, including works by composers Samuel Barber and Aaron Copland, as well as music inspired by visits to the continent. Presented by Rachel Leach. Free entry, just turn up on the day!
Join the LSO and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas as they rehearse Aaron Copland’s Short Symphony, Orchestral Variations and works by Britten and Shostakovich with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The day continues at LSO St Luke’s with a lecture on the life and work of this key American composer, and a chamber music performance by LSO musicians.

Now in its tenth year, the LSO Discovery Conducting Masterclass is an innovative project giving three conductors (this year Edward Farmer, Fergus MacLeod and George Jackson) a unique opportunity to work with the LSO. In 2013 the aspiring professionals will be coached by LSO Principal Guest Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas on Shostakovich’s Symphony No 5, Copland’s Symphony No 2 and Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.

In this concert, the London Symphony Orchestra performs must-hear pieces perfect for those new to classical music, and is joined on stage by young musicians from East London with their own take on Beethoven, as well as the dynamic LSO Community Choir. LSO Youth Choir Concert Suitable for all ages
Fri 5 Jul 7pm Jerwood Hall, LSO St Luke’s The LSO Youth Choir presents their summer concert, with a diverse selection of pieces ranging from classical works by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies to popular chart hits. If your child is over 7 and lives or goes to school in Islington, Hackney or the City of London, they can apply for a place in the Youth Choir. Places are awarded in an annual selection day, which takes place towards the end of the summer term. They are awarded for one academic year, after which participants are invited to re-apply.
