Hey,Hey They’reThe Monkees Last summer, ’90s band Smash Mouth had the crowd at The Paramount singing at the top of their lungs when it came time for its cover of “I’m a Believer.” But this month brings to the stage the people who made the song a hit back in 1966. The three remaining band members of The Monkees, the pop/rock group that brought their Beatles-inspired look and sound to a 1960s television show of the same name, play The Paramount on May 25. They’re older (and wiser!) but their love for music and performing is the same. The original band – a quartet composed of Americans Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, and Englishman Davy Jones – was formed in 1965 for the TV show (Continued on page A14)
A Town of Huntington Engineering Department review of plans for the longawaited Sweet Hollow Park in Melville is expected to wind up in the next two to three weeks, town officials said Monday. Once complete, the review of those conceptual plans, filed by the town’s Department of Parks and Recreation, will set the stage for the town to put the project out for bids, town spokesman A.J. Carter said. “From there, a determination on how to proceed will be made once it’s priced out,” Carter said. There “might be some changes” based on the engineering department’s analysis, perhaps to save money or maximize land use, the spokesman said. Space is at a premium on the 8.2-acre parcel, which was once part of Meyer’s Farm on Old Country Road. The town deemed 5 of those acres as passive parkland, and planners are already thinking outside of the box. (Continued on page A16)

As average outdoor temperatures increase, the Half Hollow Hills Central School District is entering yet another election season. The names of the three incumbents – Diana Acampora, Betty DeSabato and Paul Peller – are again on the ballot, but come May 20, their seats are open to those chosen in the general election. Incumbent Acampora is running again in an effort to improve the student experience, she said in an email. “If re-elected, I will remain committed to working collaboratively with Administration and the community, to not only maintain Half Hollow Hills’ high quality of education, but also improve experiences for all students, in an effort to make (Continued on page A16)
