3 STUDENTS FEATURED IN SFCA NATIONAL EXHIBTION
On Wednesday 14 June the annual Sixth Form Colleges Association national exhibition was opened. We are so proud to announce that three of our Level 3 Art and Design Extended Diploma students are featured in the final exhibition!
Congratulations to Edie Ward, Zoe Worboys and Felix Bursford!
As in every summer for the last five years, the SFCA Art Exhibition offers a platform for young artists to express themselves through their art, and to communicate their concerns, hopes and beliefs. In a year when the government’s latest figures show a marked decline in the numbers of students choosing to study A Level arts subjects, it is critically important to reinforce the message that arts matter Not just because the creative industries make such an enormous
contribution to the national economy, not just because so many people work in one of them, but because to develop one ’ s artistic sensitivities, ability to communicate and creative thinking, is to build the foundation for being a better citizen. This years exhibition is titled "A Sustainable Future" and aims to be
a clarion call to us all to engage in the climate and sustainability agenda. promote the arts and to showcase the relationship between artistic endeavour and the big issues of the day. a platform for the talented young people in sixth form colleges, which represent a secure pipeline of professional artists, who will inspire us and bring us joy for many years to come

Just before half-term our Foundation Art students put on their graduate exhibition, Scavengers! This year the showcase was set at the Cambridge Museum of Technology The name of the Exhibition – ‘Scavengers’ - is from a term in linked to the venue that the workers historically were called as they gathered and recycled objects for fuel
Once again, graduates have won a range of excellent progression routes to leading universities as well embarking to study with an extensive range of specialist subjects such as Architecture, Special effects and make up, Fashion, furniture and Graphic communication to name just a few
Gareth Roberts, Course Team Leader, said "Our graduate showcase once again did not disappoint. The environment enriched the students outcomes and evoked tremendous interest The foot fall of industry specialists, media and practitioners really hammered home to us all the need and benefit of the Level Four program here at Long Road It was also encouraging to see potential candidates that had actively come to view the show and make the qualification an aspirational 'want' to achieve on their CV My congratulations go to all students showing!"
OPEN AIR EXHIBITION 2022/23
A cold and rainy November morning was certainly been brightened up earlier this year by the installation of the new artwork in our Open Air Exhibition!
Our Open Air Exhibition features work from students across our creative arts department; including graphic designers, photographers and artists.
You can come and view their work for FREE when you visit us for your Applicant Welcome Day, just check out the large artwork across our campus entrance
We refresh our Open Air Exhibition annually for all of out staff, students and visitors to enjoy Each year teachers from across all of our creative arts subjects select their favourite pieces of student work, before
our Principal makes the final decision on who to feature in the display The installation of the final chosen artwork is an exciting time for all of the subjects!
Artwork showcased in the previous 2 years Open Air Exhibitions is dotted across the college campus, so take a stroll and find your favour piece.
Huge thank you to our Art Technician Maggie for helping us bring this project to life; and of course massive thanks to our wonderfully talented students for allowing us to display your work!

Our Performing Arts students spent an insightful day at The Junction, taking part in a wide range of workshops led by industry specialists.
On Friday 4th November, thirty of our Year 1 Music, Musical Theatre and Drama students took part in Creative Industry Day at The Junction. The students participated in workshops covering Live Sound, Lighting Design, Song Writing and Movement Theatre led by industry professionals.
They were then taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue by staff, seeing everything from the performance areas to the dressing rooms and hearing stories of bands and artists who have performed there.
Finally, the students were able to quiz professionals from several different areas of the creative industries on their job roles, how they got into the industry and how the industry is changing. It’s great to have this link with The Junction, and we are looking forward to more collaborations in the future.
Thank you to Performing Arts Technician, Daniel, for taking these brilliant photos Click on the album below to view them all!

WATERBEAR COLLEGE OF MUSIC WORKSHOP
On Monday 10th October our Year 1 Music students attended a workshop on Careers in the Music Industry given by some of the team from WaterBear College of Music
Students learnt about the growth of the UK music industry and the roles available in the live industry, the recording industry and music business. One lucky student won a £20 Amazon voucher simply for introducing themselves and their musical interests, a demonstration of the importance of self-promotion in the music industry.
Our Year 2 students, who had met the Water Bear team last year, joined the session for the final section, an explanation of the undergraduate courses available to study at Water Bear and time for Q&A with the experts, part of their final preparations for UCAS applications later in the term
Water Bear College of Music was impressed by the size and standard of our Music course, and we are excited to strengthen the links between our institutions!

DT STUDENT WINS JAPANESE DESIGN COMPETITION!
Huge congratulations to Louis Byrne, Year 2 DT A Level student, who recently won a Japanese design competition and his artwork had now been produced commercially and is available as a product!
Louis got in touch to tell us all about the competition
"The competition I entered was a Japanese competition called, ‘お でかけポ チねおデザインコン テスト’ or ‘Nendroid Pouch Neo Design Contest’ which is the English title.
It was hosted by a company called ‘ Good Smile Company ‘ which is a Japanese figurine and merchandise company and the task was to design a new design to add to their ‘Nendroid Pouch
Neo’ product line up, which is basically like a case for their figurines to be able to display/carry them
We were given a template to draw out our designs and the 2 chosen winners would have their design become an actual product I was also able to talk with the company/manufacturer about how I wanted the final thing to look and give feedback on the prototypes, although not in person obviously!
The prototype was shown off at an exhibition thing called ‘WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR YOU!!’ which is hosted by the company and other figurine manufacturers in Akihabara, Japan "
