Winter Events

Winter is just around the corner and we've got some thrilling events lined up that you won't want to miss! With Christmas carols, free hot chocolates, photobooths, Christmas tree decorating, a concert, and more, Long Road will help you get into the festive spirit.

Winter Fair ☕ ☕

Last year, Long Road brought the festive cheer with our wonderful Winter Fair. Charlotte, our Youth Social Action Apprentice, whipped up this festive extravaganza with the help of some fabulous students. It was an absolute blast, and this year promises to be bigger and better than before.

You can look forward to free hot chocolate, a Christmas photobooth, music, games, charity fundraisers, and more!

The fair will take place on Tuesday 10th December from 10:3013:30. If you’d like to get involved, email csmith@longroad.ac.uk.

Christmas Concert

The Long Road Christmas Concert is back for it’s annual celebration of festive cheer. Join us for an unforgettable evening filled with heartwarming music including renditions of some holiday classics, some original songs, and an exciting line up of talented artists. The concert will take place on Wednesday 11th December from 7pm to 9pm. If you’d like to get involved, email Elizabeth Rowlands at erowlands@longroad.ac.uk

Christmas Tree Decorating

Christmas is nearly here, and we ’ re looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help us deck the halls of the Student Centre. Come along and decorate the Christmas tree with us, get creative, and help Long Road get into the festive spirit.

Send us an email at help@longroad.ac.uk with “Christmas Elves” as the subject and we’ll let you know how you can get involved!

Winter Fundraiser

Whilst the holiday season is a time of joy, it can also be a difficult time for those most in need. Homelessness is a very important issue in Cambridge and to our students, and there are a whole host of charities and organisations who are doing their part to help. Jimmy’s is one of them, and their aim is to provide support and housing to people sleeping rough.

We recognise that we can all make small contributions that make a massive difference, and so for the third year running we will be doing a fundraiser at Long Road. The donation of food and other items ensures residents have the essentials they need, freeing up funding for other critical support. See the poster to the right for a list of items that are acceptable to donate.

If you would like to donate any items, please drop off your items at the Student Centre, the LRC, or reception. All donations must be made by Monday 16th December. Alternatively, you can donate money on the Jimmy’s website.

International Men’s Day

International Men’s Day takes place on 19th November every year. Although we do not have the capacity to run a full event, we will have a small display in the Student Centre for the whole week. This year ’ s theme is Positive Male Role Models, so we ’ ve also written a small article. Click here to read it!

Men’s Health Awareness Run/ Walk

Some of our students have done a wonderful job creating an event to raise awareness for men ’ s physical and mental health. The event is a run or walk, depending on your ability, on Saturday 30th November at 12:30pm at Cherry Hinton Hall. The event will raise money for the Movember Foundation, a charity that has been supporting men ’ s health awareness since 2004, and in 2023 raised $128.2 million AUD (roughly £65 million).

A massive well done to the students who have organised this event, it’s wonderful to see young people making a difference. Scan or click the QR code below to donate.
