CAREERS AND PROGRESSION
#BeInspired
Our Careers and Progression team were presented with the National Quality in Careers Award in 2019 for their outstanding work in supporting our students and it’s easy to see why.
Across the year we run several careers events welcoming a range of local, national, and international companies and universities to our campus
You might already have a plan for your future. Maybe you ’ ve got several ideas buzzing around your head; perhaps you ’ ve got no clue at all. That’s fine!
Whatever stage you ’ re at, your time with us at Long Road will help you find your vision and identify the pathway that works for you whether that’s further education or higher education, an apprenticeship or directly into the world of work
It’s never too soon to start thinking about your next steps, and when you need to make decisions about your future, you will be supported every step of the way.
Trained to provide up-to-date information and impartial advice about careers, your Progress Coach will work with you individually to identify your career goals and find the pathway that best suits you and your ambitions. Regular group tutorials and workshops will help you explore your options so that you can make an informed choice.
Our Careers team and Progress Coaches work together to lead our Aim Higher group, Degree Apprenticeship group and Oxbridge & Russell Group Preparation Programme
All these groups hold regular sessions to give you specialist support in applying to your dream university or apprenticeship, including advice from visiting speakers and trips to universities' campuses!
Head to the LRC (the red building on your map) to be inspired by our team!
BE A STAR: STUART KEPPIE
"During my time at Long Road (2010–2012) I studied Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Computing.
I found a particular affinity for Biology stimulated by the course content and the enthusiastic teaching, which inspired me to continue onto a BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia.
I am now studying for a PhD at the University of Oxford in Interdisciplinary Bioscience, researching osteoarthritis.
The best things about Long Road were the approachability of the teachers, and the academic and extra-curricular provisions The feedback on my coursework and advice on my personal statement helped me get to where I am today.
I loved the atmosphere, opportunities and mix of people at Long Road "
BE A STAR: AMELIA FOSHER
Long Road Alumnus 2022
"Hi, I'm Amelia and I achieved A*,A*,A in Biology Maths and Chemistry A Levels in August 2022.
Since the summer I have been on a gap year, working as a Health Care Assistant at Addenbrookes Hospital to gain some work experience and boost my chances of getting into Med School - and it worked! I have received 4 offers and have accepted a place to study Medicine and Surgery at Newcastle University this September
Med Squad has really helped me achieve my goal of studying Medicine. I had no idea about the application process at all, and Med Squad made sure I had all the information and support I needed. What helped me the most was taking part in the mock interviews. This experience did a really good job at calming my nerves for the real thing!
I have just been to an offer holder day at Newcastle, which gave me a real insight into what it's going to be like, so I am really excited to start in September!"
