Endea Owens & The Cookout

2–3:15 pm

Emmy, Grammy, and George Foster Peabody Award winner Endea Owens is a Detroit-raised recording artist, bassist, and composer, and a member of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert house band, led by Louis Cato. Owens’ work has appeared on Jon Batiste’s Grammy Award-winning album We Are, Oscar-nominated film Judas and the Black Messiah, and H.E.R.’s widely acclaimed Super Bowl LV performance. In 2020, Owens founded The Community Cookout, a nonprofit organization that provides meals and music to underserved neighborhoods worldwide. The 2023 Mac Music Innovator with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Owens is also the curator for the National Arts Club and fellow for “Jazzis Now!” with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

Harold López-Nussa:

Timba a la Americana Featuring Grégoire Maret

3:45–5 pm

Winner of the 2005 Montreux Jazz Piano Competition, composer and pianist Harold López-Nussa has captivated audiences across the world with his thrilling performances that reflect the full range and richness of the Cuban musical tradition, with its distinctive combination of folkloric, popular, and classical elements—as well as its embrace of improvisation.

Pumphouse Plaza

High and Mighty Brass Band

2:15–3:15 pm; 4–5 pm

There’s a reason legendary groups like Galactic, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, and Lake Street Dive have collaborated with New York City’s favorite brass band High and Mighty Brass Band since drummer Evan Howard started the band back in 2009. This rotating cast has toured all over the world including major performances at Bonnaroo, the US Open, Governors Ball Music Festival, and Sonidos Liquidos. They entertain crowds with both their original music and fresh takes on current and classic cover songs.

Beer Garden

The Dale Melton Trio 2:30–3:30 pm; 4:15–5:15 pm; 6–7 pm

The Dale Melton Trio is a tasty sonic and rhythmic stew of New Orleans funk and soulful New York jazz blended with early rock, blues, and bossa nova reminiscent of Dr. John, Mose Allison, Fats Waller, Taj Mahal, Boz Skaggs, Lyle Lovett, and Randy Newman. Throw in Melton’s one-of-a-kind Hammond organ style and punch the rhythm piano along with his “it’s never the same twice” delivery and everything takes on a unique twist.

Orchard

Lakecia Benjamin 4:15–5:30 pm

Voted the 2020 DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Alto Saxophonist and Up and Coming Artist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association, charismatic and dynamic saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin fuses traditional conceptions of jazz, hip hop, and soul. With her electric presence and fiery sax work, Benjamin has shared stages with several legendary artists, including Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, and The Roots.

Dianne Reeves 6–7:30 pm

Five-time Grammy Award winner and jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves brings breathtaking virtuosity, improvisational prowess, and unique jazz and R&B stylings to her performances. Reeves received the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for three consecutive recordings and won the Best Jazz Vocal Grammy for her feature in the soundtrack of George Clooney’s six-time Academy Award-nominated film Good Night, and Good Luck. The first Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the first vocalist to ever perform at the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall, in 2018 Reeves was designated a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts—the highest honor the United States bestows on jazz artists.
