Hangzhou Painting and Calligraphy Museum Individual 2012.11-2013.02 Xixi Wetland , Hangzhou , China
Background Hangzhou witnesses its development from Song Dynasty to the east part of West Lake centuries ago.The modern city covers a wilder area of West Lake and Qiantang River, with its core zone locates along the main road parallel to the east bank of the Weat Lake, stretching north to the canal where the new CBD locates. Then the density of the east became saturant. So the government made a decision that the the west should begin to develop, while Xixi Wetland was the first part of this plan. Xixi Wetland Park is one of the famous attractions in Hangzhou which can bring millions tourists for this city. Except for the natural landscape, there are Xixi Wetland Museum,Xileng Seal Community and lots of Luxury hotels.Because of the thousands years history of the cultural and the Seal Community, a museum for painting and calligraphy is decided to built in here.

Project’s description This site is in a district called Xixi Heaven which is at the southeast of Xixi Wetland Park. There are lots of luxury hotels in Xixi Heaven which are set for the tourists of the Park.Xixi Wetland Museum is also in this district. And the distance between the Park and this district is about 2.4km.So the transportation between is one of urgent problems. But there exist some cruise line in the Park.As the result, setting a pier in the site maybe a good solution about the far distance. Meantime this project ask us to pay our imagination to deal with the relationship between Xixi Wetland and the painting and calligraphy museum. And I found the similarity between the skin texture of Xixi Wetland and calligraphy / painting works. Finally, I choose the seal as the design concept of the museum.

Dabei Temple and Buddhist Institute Team work/Individual work 2015.03-2015.07 Zhoushan , Zhejiang , China
Background Putuo Mountain and its Islands in Zhoushan is one of the four most famous Buddhist holy lands in China, also includes Wutai Mountain in Shanxi, Emei Mountain in Sichan and Jiuhua Mountain in Anhui. Buddhist Goddess is the most important Buddha in Putuo Mountain. Looking for the opportunity to develop and attract more monks and tourists, the government of Zhoushan decides to build the Guanyin Culture Park which includes Buddhist Institute of China, Dabei Temple and so on. In this program, the new form of space and the new way of construction are the key words. And I am trying to use the modern methods of spatial organization and the new construction skills to build a “traditional in my design.

Project’s description
This project is to do the whole area design of Buddhist Institute and Dabei Temple site (which are parts of Guanyin Culture Park) by a 3-members group. The challenges are lots of restrictions in temple architecture such as the direction of building, the axis, the location of different buildings, the form of space and so on. And the decision our group made is to obey the rule of temple architecture in general plan but use the modern methods of spatial organization and the new construction skills to design each building. To make our individual parts work more like a whole, we created several “control table” - one is for the building form includes plan/section/roof, one is for the building language includes courtyard/material/structure, and one is for the relationship among every building. Then in the next step, everyone just picked up the element they need and still can work together. In the first step of project,I was responsible for the “control tables” , also the analysis maps making and took in the discussion of general plan design. Then in the second step of project, I was responsible for the design of Dabei Temple, especially the most important three buildings. (The main hall, Dharma hall and Depositary of buddhist texts)

The [ ] City Team work 2013.09-2013.11 Toucheng , Yilan , Taiwan
Background Nowadays, the idea of the architecture design is not a simple thing. It involves the relationship between the real and imaginary also the closely inseparable relationship with urban environment because majority of current construction activities are interventions which will be put into the existing urban environment. Urban is a altogether which is made up with man-made environment and human. As a basis, the understanding of the various scales of urban systems is the premise of architecture’s/ space’s intervention. But as for me, the most import thing is the influence on resident’s life which always cause by the construction activities. While architects are designing the building, they are also designing the lifestyle of residents. So I think that the most important question we need to think of is:the lifestyle change of residents before the birth of building and after the birth and also the significance of this change.

Project’s description This project is to study the site (which is a part of Toucheng,Yilan,Taiwan) by group and make up with the vision of city 30 years later.Meantime we should come up with some advice to help this city to develop and solve the problems which exist now. In this process we work by analyzing the layers of the city and then make sure which lifestyle of resident’s is step by step.As a basis we suppose the direction of the urban development that would help us to design our bulidings in next step. Specific methods of operation are: ten mates are divided into five groups which have their own theme on the research about this city to help them to understand and identify problems encountered in the process of urban development. Then they should find the cause of these problems and come up with their recommendations or suggestions which finally presented in four layers -grey, blue, red, green corresponds to transportation, water, housing, plant. The results of the analysis is 14 specific architectural projects to help the development 10 of which would be operated by us in the next step. In this project,I was responsible for the study of the transportation systems and coastline morphology at the beginning, tourism study in the mid, as well as part of works in discussions, model making and maping.

Summary of the urban analysis Country/City With the breakdown of contact between city dwellers and the countryside, the cities become prisons.Farm vacations,a year on the farm for city children, and retirement to the country for old people are replaced by expensive resorts, summer camps, and retirement villages. And for most, the only contact remaining is the weekend exodus from the city, choking the highways and the few organized recreation centers. Many weekenders return to the city on Sunday night with their nerves more shattered than when they left. Every weekend, thousands of city dwellers will arrive this city. They may arrive on Friday or Saturday and leave on Sunday.More and more tourists bring lots of oppportunities for urban development.Toucheng will not be a village but be swallowed by the urbanization.
Dweller/Tourist More and more tourists’ arrive make Toucheng consist of two different group-dwellers and tourists. As a result, their different demands cannot be in a harmonious proportion.

Future Image In the process of unstopped modernization, the life of the residents change fast which may be harmful for some residents. As a result,we propose the concept of anti-city. We fight against the colder relationship but support the convenience of transportation bring by modernization. What we hope to see in the future of this town is the warm relationship between residents also the developed urban infrastructure.

Background A city is developed means that its building density and population density have reached a certain height. The increase of density is reflected in the lifestyle of the resident- faster pace. At that time, what should people think about is how to make life more relaxed. And the methods are not only better urban infrastructure but also more public space - like park, gymnasium, etc. But the current situation is that the large public space is difficult to intervene in a high-density city. So we should reduce the scale of public space. As the result, the radiation area of public space would be smaller, the number would increase. And such a concept is known as micro public space.
Project’s description In the last project, we have set up 14 projects to help develop the city and my job was responsible for project which is the urban public space design. Because of the existence of old town, the large urban public space - such as community cultural center, park, etc. - is difficult to intervene. Therefore, in the beginning of the project I first came up with the idea called micro public space. So in the next step, I mainly paid my attention in looking for the city residents’ lifestyle to determine what functions should I fill into this micro public space. At the same time I did not ignore tourists’ travel habits.I think the urban public spaces are not only designed for the resident bur also for the tourist, which is the same meaning of the theme of the last project - harmony between the resident and the tourist. The key word final results of the micro-public space is : Mobility , The ability of Accumulation and Separation , Variability , Convenience , Leasehold.

Tourists Although large numbers of tourists come to this city and bring a lot of problems, in fact tourists themselves also need to face problems when traveling which bring by the position of the viewpoints and the bad tourism infrastructure. As the result, they have to ask for help to residents. Then it may be a trouble. As for travelers, their problems may cause by the flow reasons:

Residents Since the development of the tourism industry can not be blocked, the residents in some areas of city have to accept the situation that they should share some city space with travelers. And I think, the reason of this problem is the lack of public space for residents, and also some ‘huge’ pubilc space at the boundary line between the tourists and residents.

Most of tourists who come into the downtown are come from leisure attractions which meansthey have the will to be into this city.
The contradictions between the residentsand tourists mostly happen in the sumisho mixed area.
At the boundary line, there exists some squares and some place which have the chance to become a square.

Workshop Individual 2013.01-2013.04 Liangzhu , HangZhou , China
Background In 2007, it was found that there are 2.9 million square meters ancient city ruins in Liangzhu. In 2008, Liangzhu Museum designed by David Chipperfield opened. More and more people began to pour into this cultural mecca. So the local residents had lots of opportunities to develop their economies and improve their quality of living. Then there exists two serious problem : 1.how to introduce the cultural knowledge to those who want to come here and the next generation of the local resident; 2.how to use these opportunities to develop while keeping the original style.
Project’s description The project lies in Liangzhu Cultural Town, one of the most innovating and mixed communities in the city of HangZhou,ZheJiang Province in China,1 hour driving from the city center. This xanadu lifestyle keeps the noisy urban life away from the town on one hand,it nevertheless separate the community from reaching the city on the other. The project is designed for some cultural workers who want this design to be their workshop and they can do something special such as cultural promotion because of their social responsibility. The importent things I should think about are: 1.Liangzhu is one of the famous archaeological remains in China which has a 5300 years history;2.there is a school near the site;3.the site is located in the center of the community;4.the social responsibility of the cultural workers.
