Home & Garden
Hard times are over in Bucks The water in the South East, specifically the Buckinghamshire area, is very hard – leading to, the dreaded limescale. That limescale build-up can cause an untold amount of damage to your home – damage you can see and damage you can’t see!
Hard Water
Soft Water
We all recognise unsightly limescale build-up in our kettle, scale on our taps, clogged shower heads and watermarked shower screens, but that’s just the damage we can see. Have you ever thought about the amount of limescale that might be in your waterusing appliances, making them run less efficiently and possibly even causing them to break down. Softened water will bring you and your family many benefits in day to day life.
Save time and money and live in luxury! Limescale removers are only a shortterm fix, they don’t tackle the cause, hard water. Save hours cleaning and discover the only long-term solution for limescale - soft water. It will prolong the life of your appliances. Many homeowners are unaware that hard water could be
causing daily damage to their washing machine, dishwasher, boiler and water heating systems reducing their efficiency and eventually may even cause them to break down. If you have never experienced the luxury of bathing in soft water, you will be amazed! Your skin will instantly feel silky smooth, and soft water can even help to alleviate eczema and dry skin conditions. Bubble bath, shampoos and detergents will also go so much further too!
Buy with confidence locally Based in Princes Risborough, The Soft Water Shop is an independent business with more than 35 years experience. Talk to their friendly team and they’ll happily recommend a water treatment solution that’s right for you, your home and your budget. They offer a personal service, free site visits and an installation service carried out by fully qualified engineers.

Using natural stone to create beautiful outdoor spaces By Rachel Blake, Coulon Stone Ltd
Eating, drinking and socialising in the great outdoors reminds us of holidays and summers. Unfortunately in the UK, the dream may often be different to reality, given that we are at the mercy of the British weather, but there are ways we can combat this and provide amazing outdoor experiences whatever the weather.
So, if the warmer weather and longer days is turning your thoughts to your outside space, then don’t be daunted. Simple touches can make all the difference; from re-considering the seating space, thinking about the planting, through to adding an interesting feature such as a natural stone table top or water feature. However, if you are looking to make a more significant difference, nothing can be more effective than a new patio, pathway or stone steps in amazing materials such as limestone or sandstone. Both are very hardwearing and deliver a wide range of beautiful colours. At Coulon Stone we’re currently stocking a limestone called Aria. It offers all the attributes and style of a limestone, but without the price tag. Alternatively you might be looking to create a seamless extension of your indoor space with your outside. Slate is perfect to create the ultimate indoor - outdoor look, and is naturally slip resistant and relatively low in price. Whether you want to go over the top, keep it simple or somewhere in the middle, expanding your outdoor space will always be a welcome addition to your home – and may even add value. So, if you are looking at your outside space and wondering what you can do, then contact us on 01494 484333 or visit our showroom.

A Swap Shop is a unique way of recycling and reusing unwanted goods, things that you don’t use anymore but you don’t want to see ending up in the landfill site. Please don’t bring items after 1 o’clock. Small electrical goods with CE mark only accepted. Goods left over will be taken to charity shops or clothes banks or recycled if unsuitable for reuse. ** ONLY GOOD CONDITION ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED ** BIKE EXCHANGE and Bike Repair Unit There will also be a Bike Exchange on the day. In the spotlight... Infiniti Q30
MOTORING
Reviewed by Tim Barnes-Clay, Motoring Journalist.
Infiniti, the statelier arm of Nissan, is steadily cultivating its profile in the United Kingdom – and its Q30 model should not be snubbed if the luxury hatchback class tickles your pickle.
Initial impressions of the Q30 are familiar, and that’s
because it is based on the pre-facelift MercedesBenz A-Class. But the Infiniti looks the part, with an uncompromising deportment and low-slung roofline. Inside, plush seats invoke a feeling of quality and refinement. I got behind the wheel of the Q30 1.6T 7DCT Business Edition. Even though it is substantial for a smallish car, the Infiniti copes with corners and bites into the bitumen as if it were appreciably lighter. A sharp-shooting seven-speed automatic gearbox helps by changing up and down through the cogs smoothly. Performance-wise, the model’s 115ps and 250Nm of torque get into a frantic froth, pulling the car from 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds. The Infiniti isn’t wearisome to drive either, due to the Q30 requiring negligible steering inputs. The cabin’s very comfortable seats have been intended to relieve pressure on the top and bottom of the back by supporting these areas more than in a conventional chair. Elsewhere, you can identify elements shared with Mercedes-Benz; for example, the switchgear and the dashboard. Infiniti has carried on the arching wave across the dash, which is seen on the outside of the Q30, and
@carwriteups
an imitation suede roof lining adds to the car’s well-to-do feel. The factoryinstalled infotainment system looks expensive as well, with well-defined screen graphics. Bluetooth and voice control are standard, too. Copious room in the front is offset by limited passenger headroom in the rear, but boot space is up with the best in class. The significant aspect with the Infiniti Q30 is that it is produced to be a premium alternative to more everyday cars – and the outcome is a more wellheeled and easy-going experience than you would expect from your average hatchback.

NOMNOM, The Deli at No.5 have got Easter covered... Easter weekend falls this month with Good Friday on 14th and Easter Sunday on 16th and the Deli at No.5 are well stocked with a huge selection of quality, UK sourced chocolate to mark the occasion in style. From the sinfully calorific to dairy free, vegan friendly and organic, there really is a treat suitable for everyone’s tastebuds and dietary requirements. For the health conscious dark chocolate lover the Deli at No.5 have an array of exceptionally handcrafted, bean-to-bar, Aztec Gold Chocolate, in a choice of flavours. These 100g bars contain only natural, organic ingredients making them perfect for vegans, people with food intolerances or those who enjoy clean eating as they are dairy-free, soya-free and gluten-free. The chocolate is also free from palm oil and naturally sweetened with coconut sugar making each nibble a guilt-free moment of pleasure. If you’re looking to wow a loved one, ask the Easter Bunny to pop a box of luxurious Afan Vale chocolates in his basket for you. These decorative, bite-sized treats really are a work of art in their appearance and a triumph in their rich, velvety flavour. Presented in equally artistic packaging they make for the perfect gift for a loved one or an indulgent treat for yourself. Another popular chocolate for Easter (and every other day for that matter) is NOMNOM Chocolate which rose to fame recently after being featured in the BBC2 documentary “Back to the land with Kate Humble”. Produced in a quirky converted cow shed on a quaint farm in the Welsh hills, NOMNOM uses a blend of the worlds finest cacao, combined with the very best Welsh ingredients from local producers and elements from nature to create some truely unique flavoured chocolate. There’s Orange Marmalade made with Cwm Deri Vineyard’s Cwmtreau to give a sweet orange perfume taste to the bars, Welsh Lavender and Fresh Garden Mint to name but a few. So if you’re a chocoholic looking for something a bit different this Easter, get yourself down to 5a Buttermarket - you will not be disappointed.

Making your Will Some important decisions Having
taken the decision to make your Will, possibly for the first time, there are a few points your should consider before committing yourself to an appointment with a professional Will Writer. The consultants job is to take your instructions and translate these into your Will, creating a document which accurately reflects your wishes. The Will needs to be understood by your executors and most importantly, The Probate Court, to ensure that it is proved quickly to minimise any problems which may occur causing delays and possible hardship to your loved-ones. There are some important questions which you need to consider before meeting with your consultant. By having many of the answers available it will leave more time to discuss the other important issues which may arise during the consultation.
THE APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTORS
your consultant will be able to advise upon the suitability of such schemes. If you have a child with additional needs, who are likely to require specialist care either at home or in the care of the Local Authority, a trust will be required to ensure adequate funds are available for their future.
PROPERTY How you hold your property will determine how it passes on after your death. As ‘joint tenants’ your share will pass on to the survivor automatically. If you wish to pass your ‘interest’ in the property to your children or others, you should hold your property as ‘tenants in common’. More in-depth information can be discussed with your consultant. Other items to consider will be, specific gifts and funeral wishes. Only use a trainer professional to help you make your Will.
You do not need to appoint other ‘professionals’ to act as an executor or trustee of your estate, unless there is the likelihood of a Trust arising. Professional executors will charge your estate to act, and in many cases, for duties which a layperson could have done. It may be better therefore, to appoint a member of your family, a prime beneficiary or close friend to act. Remember, an executor can also be a beneficiary. If you do need to appoint a professional executor, you could opt for either a solicitor, chartered accountant or a Trust Corporation to act on your behalf. Your consultant will be able to advise on the best option for your circumstances.
APPOINTMENT OF GUARDIANS If you have children (under the age of 18) you will need to appoint guardians. It may be helpful to make at least one guardian a joint executor as they have a right to money from your estate to help towards the upbringing of your child. This amount can be restricted to a certain amount or could be left in a trust fund. Again

INTERNATIONAL
Bowen Therapy Week
12th - 18th April
International Bowen Therapy Week takes place between 12th - 18th April and to celebrate the life and work of Tom Bowen, Bowen Therapist, Jen Webster is running FREE Bowen Sessions for Children throughout April.(by appointment only)
I
would like to give preference to babies and children under the age of 10, with particular availability to those with any form of disability, however please contact me regardless of age as Bowen can be of great help for those with sports injuries and anxiety issues. Bowen has been able to help a variety of conditions such as colic, bedwetting, eczema, headaches and anxiety, ADHD and hay fever.
The Benefits include: Healthier children with better concentration Improved sleeping patterns Enhanced motor control and behaviour leading to happier, quieter, more relaxed children
A child’s Bowen Therapy is very gentle. Many report finding it a pleasant and relaxing experience. All treatments are carried out through light clothing whilst the parent/carer remains in the room. Some childhood conditions may require regular Bowen sessions.
The Tom Bowen Legacy Trust Fund The TBLTF (UK) is a non-profit making organisation set up to help children with disabilities. It provides grants for equipment to children that have received Bowen Therapy. Last year I was delighted to report that Josh (pictured left), who has severe cerebral palsy, received a grant from The TBLTF. He now regularly uses an iPad with a special gooseneck holder and when the weather improves we will see him having fun in his swing. I continue to see Josh on a regular basis and everyone agrees that following his Bowen sessions he is generally more relaxed and has a better quality of sleep To celebrate International Bowen Week Jen is pledging £1.00 for every client she see’s, in April, to the TBLTF. EMPOWER YOURSELF
Learn more about how hearing technology can keep you connected to the world and help to keep your brain active...
AUDITORY PROCESSING... The eyes are often referred to as the gateway to our soul perhaps then we could think of the ears as a gateway to the brain! From the moment we are born the input from our auditory system is shaping our neural pathways. So we must not ignore this fact as we age. If the brain stops receiving auditory signals such as speech and conversation, social isolation is a likely consequence and this is seen to be a significant factor in early onset dementia. It is mishearing that can age a person not the wearing of hearing aids. Recent reports show that 81% of hearing aid users are satisfied with their devices, but this goes up to 91% for people with instruments less than one year old. This shows how far hearing aids have come, and how advances in technology are improving people’s lives. The old fashioned view is that hearing aids age you - but the truth is - it is mishearing that ages you and those who empower themselves by using state of-the-art hearing technology are keeping young and connected for longer which has to be a good thing!
Hearing Technology has made great leaps forward in the last
few years, opening up new possibilities for its users. Just as our mobile phones have become smaller, shinier, and more advanced than ever before, huge developments have also been made for hearing aids. With new functions, better processing and more cosmetic designs, hearing devices now offer some of the most innovative wearable technology available today.
CONNECTIVITY - helping to keep you connected.
Many hearing aids can be paired with a smart-phone. This means more control than ever before for the user, allowing hearing devices to fit in with the rest of your technology and your busy lifestyle. Bluetooth technology, allows hearing aid wearers to stream sounds from the television directly into their aids, meaning volume can be set for personal needs without disturbing anyone else watching.
LOOK NO HANDS - Hearing Technology offers complete hands-free options, so you can hear the phone call directly in both ears via the hearing aids at the right level, providing much better clarity.
APPLE OR ANDROID - The made-for-iPhone hearing aids offer very simple solutions for connectivity and android phone users have the option to download free apps, turning your phone into a remote control for your aids, allowing you to adjust volumes, switch to special programmes for certain sound environments and use directional speech focus technology - all controllable discreetly with your mobile phone in real-time. SPEECH IN BACKGROUND NOISE - One of the greatest challenges for
people with hearing loss is hearing speech in noisy environments. It is still one of our most challenging areas, but the options available now do make the very best of any situation. We also encourage people to train themselves to become better lip-readers and crucially, better listeners. There is an art to listening well and we can all practice these techniques to help support the hearing technology.

HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE? Do you find that often the strains and stresses of the every day stunt your ability to appreciate the real beauty of the life in which you have created? Sometimes we just need a moment to sit back and take stock of what is really important but relaxing our bodies and minds often seems an impossible task. In this article, Paul Hughes, Hypno-psychotherapist at Thame Therapy Clinic, shares his philosophy on life and how Hypnotherapy can aid a more relaxed state of mind.
What are the odds that your parents happened to meet, fall in
love and then survive all the problems of a long-term relationship in order to even consider having children? I think you’d agree that the chances are fairly small. There have been 8000 generations since man first walked the earth. Whatever the chances of your parents meeting may be, they’d have to be multiplied by at least 8000 in order to find the odds of your parents bonding as a long-term couple. And that’s not all. Every man produces billions of sperm in a lifetime. Every woman produces hundreds of eggs. The chances of any particular sperm and egg meeting are almost incalculably small. Whatever that chance may be, multiply it the odds of your parents establishing a pair-bond and then multiply that by 8000. How many zeros?! Your existence is quite simply a breath-takingly unlikely fact. One brush with a sabre-toothed tiger, one sneeze from a typhoid Mary, one misstep on a cliff’s edge and your ancestor would have died. The odds of 16,000 direct ancestors having survived every possible mishap is so remote as to be unbelievable. There are a hundred thousand million stars in the Milky Way. Pick any one and I’ll try to guess which one you’ve chosen. I’ve a greater chance of getting it right than you had of ever being born. You are, therefore, the end result of an enormous line of people
lucky enough to have survived any number of potential disasters. You’re the product of an almost infinite series of improbabilities. You should be gasping at your own reflection! We’re all a beautiful defiance of improbability and yet so many of us fail to appreciate the incredible gift of existence. So many of us fail to make the most of our lives. Hypnotherapy reaches beyond the top-most levels of awareness and works to help harness the power of the deeper levels of consciousness in order to help people relax and make positive changes. If you’d like some help in order to enjoy life more fully, please get in touch!
