I can hardly believe we are all busy preparing for another Christmas - where has the last year gone? I do LOVE this time of year with all the festivities, children full of excitement, delicious food, your favourite tipple and family get together’s. In amongst the excitement though it’s easy to forget those less fortunate than us. It is of course the season of giving, so if you are feeling charitable and looking for a way to help out others who are less fortunate, then the local food bank would be a great place to head to. The Thame Foodbank provides emergency supplies of essential food items to those in our community who are struggling financially. More information about this charity and local pick up/drop off points can be found at www.sharinglifetrust. org/foodbank

Christmas Gift Ideas... By Jade Coulon, Coulon Stone Ltd
Natural stones are wonderful materials. Each piece is unique, they’re
exceptionally strong and whether it’s a sleek piece of marble or rugged limestone, they add a touch of class to any space. This Christmas, you don’t need to replace your kitchen worktop or renovate your fireplace to add some natural stone to your home. We’ve put together a list of our favourite stone gifts, all of which will last a lifetime, both in style and stature.
1. Marble Chopping Board - the cool surface of a marble chopping board is ideal for making pastry and chocolate. It also stops dough from sticking, meaning you don’t need to add lots of extra flour. A marble chopping board can also freshen up the look of your existing worktop and is easy to clean. Why not pair your marble chopping board with a marble rolling pin? 2. Stone Cheese Board - most of us serve a lot of cheese at Christmas. And what better way to impress your family and friends with not only a sterling selection of cheese, but presented on a rustic slate or fancy marble. A stone cheeseboard is also easy to clean and can be used way beyond Christmas to present all sorts of foods. 3. Candle Sticks - candles are a perfect way to turn your home in to a cosy winter hideaway, and natural stones make perfect candle sticks and holders. It’s easy to scrape wax from them, they’re heat resistant and very sturdy. But they also look incredibly elegant, and can come in a variety of styles and colours. Coulon Stone can make all of these gift ideas, and bespoke to you. You can pick your stone and design and our talented masons will hand make them. For more information on prices, email us on info@coulonstone.com, call us on 01494 484333 or visit our showroom in Stokenchurch.

Pick of the bunch...
With so many to choose from, picking out your pefect tree might be a harder decision than you realised. Here to help you is a guide to the Top 5 most popular trees.
1. Nordmann Fir Trees come in lots of sizes. They are bushy and symmetrical and are a lovely colour. They last well too, even in homes where people like the central heating set to toasty levels. 2. The Serbian Spruce,
has a slender trunk with short, gracefully drooping branches and bright green needles. They are often sold as smaller pot-grown specimens here so they can be good for a table-top tree, and can be planted out once Christmas is over.
4. The Norway Spruce, is what we think of as a traditional British Christmas tree. It has a lovely shape but is notorious for dropping its needles. Try buying a potted tree rather than a cut one, as these hold their needles better. But actually, it’s only for a couple of weeks so a few dropped needles aren’t such a terrible price to pay for a truly lovely tree.
5. The Rocky Mountain Fir, is quite a narrow tree with a striking blue colouring to the foliage. It’s also good for needle retention. 3. The Fraser Fir, has an intense festive aroma that lasts well. It’s a pretty shape and slimmer than the Nordmann so is good if you don’t have a lot of floor space. It retains its needles well.
Christmas is coming We have a vast selection of
Christmas Trees, Wreaths, Bouquets, & Festive Pots Plants for sale!

In the spotlight... Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Coupe AWD
MOTORING
@carwriteups It has been a couple of years since the Jaguar F-Type came out of the undergrowth snarling and biting at everything in its path. The ferocious big cat has won many fans in that time, and Jaguar continues to develop the F-Type.
The luxury UK-based car brand, has recently brought out a four-cylinder engine version of the F-Type, and has also fitted some models with the All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system. I had this on my test car.
This is the near-£70,000 starting point for the AWD
models, and though purists will argue rear-wheel drive is the only drive to have, they forget that a lot of people don’t want a car to have a lively tailend. Many motorists like to drive their cars in all weathers, and not feel intimidated. This is where the AWD system comes in, and joined to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, it feels just as much at home cruising around as it does going all-out attack. That attack is powered by a 380PS V6 engine - capped off with a fruity sounding exhaust for maximum snarl. It is a car that is easy to drive at very high speeds in relative comfort. But it doesn’t feel light on its feet and isn’t as nimble as a Porsche 911. That being said; a lot of potential customers just won’t care. The reason for that is the image the F-Type gives. It’s one of the most beautiful cars currently in production, with lovely proportions and a sleek roof line dropping into an angular posterior. This is a car that’s easy on the eye, and many people fall in love with it before they’ve even driven it. Is that really such a bad thing? Absolutely not, because the F-Type will feel more than enough ‘sports car’ for most people. Only those coming into a car like this from something more serious could really feel underwhelmed by it.
26
Beautiful, capable, and now safer to play with than ever before, the V6 R-Dynamic AWD F-Type is perhaps the best all-rounder in the F-Type range and delivers sporting thrills without super-high costs and snap over-steer. In a nation constantly under siege from the weather, having the stability to go with the power is more than welcome, and actually, when you think about it, makes more sense.

Toys! Toys! Toys! The song goes, ‘It’s the holiday season, And Santa Claus has got a toy, For every good girl and good little boy…’ But which toys? Luvabella: Unless you are completely doll-phobic this will enchant any little girl and probably a few boys. This is an AI Furby-made-human. The more she’s played with the more she responds. She moves her arms and legs and has an amazingly expressive face. She will even start saying a few words. The fact I was totally creeped out does not mean this won’t sell-out everywhere between here and Jupiter, so buy early! VTech Kidizoom Flix: If you are not enamoured with the creepy little Luvabella then try Flix. He’s a funky friendly little alien with face recognition software installed so he can recognise your child. You can change his eyes and skin colour and he has a camera and video
so you can carry out secret reconnaissance missions. He detaches from his tripod and comes in pink or blue. Lego: You cannot go wrong with Lego, for any age and either sex. The trend for programmable toys this year continues with Lego Boost. Five models - this is Vernie the robot which can be brought to life by coding using a free app. Experimake Sludge and Slime: A great take on the science kit. Icky gooey experiments that kids and lots of adults will enjoy playing with.
SoundMoovz: One for the whole family. Wearable, appconnected motion-activated musical bandz. Move your wrists and ankles to create beats, rhythms and music, layer your beat onto a song and connect to a wireless speaker for even louder fun. Watching Grandma showing off her moves will add to the holiday spirit. By Sarah Davey

Health & Wellbeing
Are you living the life you want to live? It’s not a question that we often ask ourselves, if at all, but it’s an important one that is at the heart of the life coaching process. You may be at a crossroads; your circumstances may have changed; you could be feeling overwhelmed or unfulfilled. Whether change is happening around you or you are striving to make change happen, by its nature it can often result in uncertainty. That uncertainty can bring unease, fear, confusion, as well as excitement and exhilaration! Life coaching gives you the opportunity to gain clarity about who you are and where you want to go whilst helping you feel in control and confident in your decision making.
Who has coaching? Life coaching is proven to be beneficial for a wide range of people in a variety of circumstances. Hi, I’m Roo Davies, I became a life coach after a series of events left me feeling like the rug had been pulled from under me. Over time I regained control and shaped my next chapter. I understand how change can impact a person’s life whether you are making that change happen or change is taking place around you. I don’t have a magic wand but I do provide a compassionate, safe and confidential space where together we explore your situation and work together to move forward. You can embrace uncertainty, be in control and feel confident.

Male infertility?
Acupuncture can help!
When couples are struggling to conceive it is often not appreciated that some 30% of unexplained fertility cases are due to male infertility and not ‘female factors’. This skewed perception of infertility is part of the problem which men face when confronted by an unproductive sperm test as it requires a change of mindset to tackle it. This article, by Thame Therapy Clinic’s Acupuncture Therapist, Andy Roscoe, explains how this complementary therapy could help your infertility struggles. www.thametherapyclinic.co.uk

irst of all men need to take action, and this can be a problem because men are less likely than women to present themselves for medical help of any kind. Secondly men are generally less confident about discussing their bodies or their feelings with a doctor or therapist, especially where the issue is potentially life changing. Men generally take action when they can fix things and so discussing infertility may seem like a waste of time!
There is a large amount of research which shows that Acupuncture can make a difference to sperm count, motility, and quality. None of the studies are conclusive, and most recommend that western medicine and acupuncture/Chinese herbs be used together for best results. Often this combination is successful because Acupuncture helps address the emotional/ mental stresses which accompany this issue. Another theory is that by needling points on the body, chemicals and hormones are triggered and released. Research has shown specifically that acupuncture increases the amount of beta-endorphins flowing through the body, these are ‘feel-good’ hormones that help lessen pain and make you relax and became less anxious. Making a decision to get help is empowering and acupuncture could be a key part of this process. Here are a few of possible benefits* of acupuncture for both men and women; •
Improved pregnancy rates during IVF treatment cycles, when acupuncture takes place on the day of embryo transfer
•
Increased blood flow to the uterus, leading to an improved endometrial lining
•
Reduced stress and anxiety levels
•
Possible improvement in ovulation for women with PCOS
•
Possible improvement in sperm count and quality in men with infertility
•
Possible regulation of gonadotropin-releasing hormone, which in turn could help regulate ovulation

Reflecting on 2017 as the end of the year approaches... I really can’t believe how quickly this year has gone. As 2017 comes to a close I have been reflecting on the issues presented by clients and their responses to treatment, on how I love working in my Clinic at The White House and on my own need to seek medical advice! My clients are so complimentary, thanks to my Bowen / NST treatments, and I just love getting a call from a parent saying their child has asked to book them an appointment, equally rewarding is being recommended to friends and family. Here are just a few of the testimonials I have received this year... - “If I win the lottery, please will you come and live with me so I can have treatments everyday!” - “I don’t ever want to stop having Bowen.” - “You’ve changed my life, I’m pain free, energetic and coping with everything.” - “No one has been able to help me, you have - Thank you, thank you, thank you!’ - “Ooooh, you’ve been on another course!”
Reverting back to the language used during my life in Operating Theatres, I have seen backs, hips, shoulders, knees, TMJ disfunction, headaches, hormone issues, ME, FM and CFS, muscular skeletal issues and so on… However, as ALL my clients know, I do not just treat a body part, your whole health and wellbeing experience is discussed and addressed. This year, once again, I have been privileged to further my practice with a fantastic and intensive NST seminar, thanks due to Michael Nixon Livy from Australia . Talking of surgery - earlier this year I was wheeled into an operating theatre that I worked in very many years ago, for emergency appendix surgery. Now that was a stressful, ‘high blood pressure’ moment! Thanks to the wonderful staff at The JR, I made a very speedy recovery and only a few clients noticed that I’d been away! There is a time and place for medical intervention and I am very quick to help you get seen by a specialist if the need arises.
I would like to wish all Look Local readers a very Happy Christmas and also take this opportunity the thank Emma for publishing all my articles this year. Please contact me for further information on; Jen Webster Bowen | Advanced NST practitioner (BSc MBTPA CNHC reg)

Bowen Therapy is not a substitute for medical advice and treatment.
Every body is different and every experience of aches, pains, restrictive movement, illness, Dis-Ease, acute and chronic conditions are different and helped by Bowen / NST with it’s non invasive, hands on approach.
