Into the second half of the year already and the summer holidays will be upon us later this month. I don’t know about you but I feel like the schools have only just reopened...? That said, I am really looking forward to having my children home to enjoy lots of staycations we have planned. And I remain hopeful for all the businesses that are still unable to trade properly that this month WILL see the end of restrictions. It was a shattering blow for many when the 21st June didn’t happen, although I don’t think many of us were too surprised! It is just such a shame that larger scale events and many local festivals are unable to go ahead for a second year running.

Rosacea – facial redness , even when you are not embarrassed... By Shelagh Foster

Rosacea is a common chronic skin condition characterized by inflamed red skin. Inflammation caused by stress or skin’s microbial overgrowth is the leading cause. It affects adults and is often progressive. It is possible to mistake Rosacea for other skin problems, such as acne, eczema, or an allergic reaction.

Papulopustular Rosacea is the classic form of Rosacea that resembles and can be mistaken for acne. This sub-type of Rosacea is characterized primarily by an area of chronic facial redness and pustules (small bumps) that are filled with pus. The pustules are similar in appearance to whiteheads but are often larger. The affected area can burn and sting and appear to be extremely dry. The pustules can appear on the nose, forehead, and cheeks.

Red flushing of the face, cheeks, forehead and chin Serum: £10.50 (10ml) Common in Women over 40 years Organic Age Defense Rejuvinating Rosacea weakens the capillaries in the pores and skin Face Oil: £8.25 (10ml) Butterfly pattern across the cheeks (quite distinctive) Organic Age Defense Stem Cell Eye Cream: £8.25 (10ml) Oiliness of the skin with sebum and pus Sometimes the oiliness is also associated with dry, patchy areas Acne in places, especially around the T-zone Burst capillaries Heat produced from the face (sometimes blushing), hot to touch

Rosacea and Papulopustular Rosacea Causes •

Stress and anxiety – disrupts your blood pressure, arteries, heart and skin and affects your immune system in a negative way and is a Rosacea trigger. Menopause – at this time in a woman’s life the hormones go crazy and cause an increase in testosterone and certain oestrogens, which will cause the face to flush. Caffeine – causes the adrenal glands to overwork and stimulates skin redness, heat, heart palpitations and sweating. Remember that soft drinks and tea also have Caffeine which are an aggravated Rosacea diet food. MSG – a carcinogen that is found in many packaged foods and hidden in many others. MSG has a major side effect of facial flushing and increasing the body’s temperature gauge and is a no go of Rosacea diet food. Alcohol – mainly red wine, whisky, vodka and champagne, and are a Rosacea trigger

Sandalwood Essential Oil - used in Ayurveda as a holistic way to treat skin rashes. Argan Oil contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Helps decrease sebum and reduce oiliness of the skin. Madonna Lily Stem Cells - reduce skin blemishes; helps develop a more uniform complexion. For deep repair of cells. Gives a protective layer against environmental impacts such as UV rays, environmental pollution, hormonal changes and sun exposure. You can also go to your Dermatologist and ask for Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) to treat Rosacea. It uses light to rejuvenate the tissues of the face in a way that is more direct than topical treatments or oral medication.IPL uses pulses of light at specific wave lengths so that it penetrates the skin’s surface and targets the root of the problem beneath the skin. It targets the lower layers of the skin (the dermis), without affecting the visible layers (the epidermis). So while you may experience some redness immediately after treatment, the downtime is minimal. IPL is a non-ablative technique meaning that it doesn’t cut out tissues. Instead, it uses specific wavelengths to penetrate deep beneath the skin. The light energy in IPL affects the skin in different ways once it penetrates the outer layers of skin and reaches the dermis. It works by speeding up the healing process, breaking down excess pigmentation into smaller particles that can be flushed out naturally through your body’s lymphatic system, or pushing them to the surface of the skin (the epidermis), where they will be naturally exfoliated in time as part of the skin’s natural shedding process. It can even encourage the production of more collagen so that your skin looks healthier and more youthful than ever. Next month I will talk about Collagen and why we need it...

New service available at the clinic: Ultrasound Guided Injections from experienced and highly qualified physiotherapist, Alok Kashyap. Injections

performed under ultrasound imaging are becoming more popular. There is enough evidence to show that injections are less accurate when performed without guidance. This can lead to persisted pain and longer recovery period. If you need an injection to help you recover from an injury, it will work better if it is put into the right place. We can use ultrasound to guide the needle exactly the right place promoting pain relief and faster recovery using Ultrasound Guided Injection. The use of ultrasound imaging in the management of musculoskeletal problems is becoming extremely popular. Ultrasound is able to give more accurate information of many tendon and ligament injuries. It allows us to view inflammation associated with pain and damage. There is no radiation and non-invasive. It is quick as compared to MRI and has the advantage of scanning in real-time, making it possible for reproduction of symptoms and to view the structures dynamically.

Chinnor welcomes two new defibrillators to the village...

Over the last 6 years Chinnor Community First Responders in partnership with Chinnor

Parish Council have installed 8 public access defibrillators in the village and another two in the wider parish. The latest have been installed in Middle Way, in between Mrs R’s Dry Cleaners and the new Premier Store, to provide emergency cover for the nearby estate. The other is at Hempton Fields Nursing Home. The aim of the whole project is to install a PAD every 400 metres and by doing so make Chinnor a ‘safe community’. The value of early defibrillation in the event of a cardiac arrest outside hospital is shown in the survival figures which indicate early defibrillation raises the survival rate from 7% to 70%. The defibrillator in whites field has been deployed and saved a man’s life. The scheme has been made successful by the generous support of the organisations and businesses which have hosted the units. Thanks goes out to all the hosts who kindly supply the power for the units and of course to Fiona and Elizabeth the Community First Responders who have led the project. The defibrillators in Chinnor are located at Wheatsheaf Public House Community Pavilion Whites Field, Mill Lane The Inn @ Emmington Chilterns Conservation Board

Thame Players are back with a Hilarious Romp (and much more)... Following 15 months of lockdowns, Thame Players

are delighted to announce the re-opening of the theatre on Tuesday 6th July with a hilarious spoof on late Victorian society, Diary of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith. Thame Players are performing the 2011 stage adaptation by Hugh Osborne, but Diary of a Nobody first appeared as a serial in Punch in 1888-9 and has never been out of print since it was published as a book in 1892. Described as a ‘romp’, Diary of a Nobody is a comic masterpiece. It uproariously recreates the story of Charles Pooter, a middle-class bank clerk with social aspirations far beyond his status, who decides the world deserves to hear his diary. After all that laughter, VooDoo Room is the next show scheduled at the Players Theatre on Friday 16th July. A stunning trio of some of the UK’s finest musicians, members of Voodoo Room have recorded and toured with Stevie Winwood, Massive Attack, Arthur Brown, Fish, Thunder and other high-profile artists. Their performance in Thame will pay musical homage to legendary superstars such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Cream, with classics such as Hey Joe, Sunshine of Your Love, and Layla. Following them on Friday 23rd July, West Star Studios will be presenting the New Foundations, a six-piece tribute band, who will be playing hits from the original Foundations and 60s and 70s Motown and Soul music, including ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’, ‘Baby, Now I’ve Found You’, ‘Back On My Feet Again’ and many more great hits. Audience comment from previous shows includes, ‘Absolutely fantastic’, ‘Excepional’, ‘A great night’s entertainment’, ‘You blew ‘em away’. And Midsomer Weaves its Magic. Thame is a major filming location for Midsomer Murders, the globally acclaimed TV phenomenon, which has been running since 1997 and is still going strong. Over 6 million people watch Midsomer Murders in the UK and millions more worldwide. Thame Players are delighted to announce a new show, The Magic of Midsomer, being held on Saturday 17th July. Tickets for all shows can be purchased online at www.thameplayers.co.uk or in person from the Information Centre at Thame Town Hall (check opening times at https://www. thametowncouncil.gov.uk/visit-thame/information-centre/). Following government advice, social distancing guidelines will be observed. Until full capacity seating is permitted, tickets are available on a non-reserved basis only. basis only and drinks will be brought to you in your seat.

you’re a fan of the successful TV series, Midsomer Murders, or simply a lover of the beautiful villages and towns in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire (collectively known as Midsomer County), a newly published book will act as the perfect guide to your enjoyment of Midsomer County and its delightful locations. A Midsomer Day Out by Tony Long, the organiser of Midsomer Tours of Thame, takes the traveller on a journey through the historic town of Thame and some of the quintessentially English villages used in the filming of Midsomer Murders. It provides a detailed itinerary for visiting over 60 Midsomer filming locations including a map guide to find each one, together with commentaries and photographs of each location taken by the author. The book also includes a history of Midsomer Murders, the globally acclaimed TV phenomenon which has been running since 1997, information about its origins and the actors appearing in it, and a complete list of all 128 episodes. There are also brief synopses of those episodes which feature filming locations described in the book. It’s estimated that one billion people have seen Midsomer Murders and it has been viewed in over 200 countries. The book also offers fascinating insights into the history of churches, pubs and other buildings used in the filming of Midsomer Murders, from Brill Windmill, St Mary’s Church Sydenham and Thame Town Hall (aka Causton Town Hall), to The Lions of Bledlow pub, Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway and Worminghall Village Hall. Coulon Stone Goes Green ... With customer’s wanting to support local businesses who align with their environmental values, it’s never been more important to look around and take steps to reduce our environmental impact, and that’s exactly what Coulon Stone have done. Well timed alongside the government’s recent environmental campaign, Coulon Stone have made a number of big changes to the way the business is powered. The ‘Together For Our Planet’ campaign introduced in May recognises the importance and impact of UK small businesses and urges them to lead the charge to net zero emissions with a number of resources and initiatives to help along the way. Coulon Stone have invested in a solar panel system to power the factory. 90 solar panels have been installed onto the factory roof meaning that on average 75% of the businesses electricity will be renewable, and any extra power the panels create will be put back in to the national grid. This is really exciting news for the small business as it massively decreases their environmental impact, and will save them some money too. Another big change made at Coulon Stone was investing in a water recycling system. Stone masonry is dusty work so involves a lot of water to keep the masons safe. The CNC saws use water whilst cutting to keep the blades cool as they carve through natural stones, as well as washing away the dust. Hand polishing tools also use water for the same reasons, and they also have a water based machine which collects dust from the air. The new water recycling system holds around 4000 litres of water and uses a flocculent system causing the dust and sediment to settle on the bottom of the tank so it can be collected and removed from the water. Simon Coulon and his team say the water system has made a big difference to their work as they feel able to use more water to keep the factory clean and free of dust, whilst knowing it’s planet friendly. The business was able to access a grant through their local council to contribute to the costs of these really important eco changes, and urge any other small businesses in the area to do the same.

Look locally over the garden gate with Lucie Giselle Ponsford

Biennials: I hope you are all enjoying your gardens, wiping your brow from the spring rush and now starting to reap rewards from your labours.

If you have got the bug and are feeling inspired to dig deep with your gardening to do list? A group of plants that are often overlooked but will really improve your borders, albeit next year are: biennials. A biennial has, like an annual, one flowering season before it dies, but that comes in it’s second year of growth. The latin origin of the word: Bi Meaning “two” + annus “year” speaks for itself. Digitalis purpurea (foxglove), Dianthus barbatos (sweet William), Alcea rosa (single hollyhock) & the beautifully scented spring flowering Erysimum cheiri (Wall Flowers) are some of the old favourites in this group and here are some others which you can try: Oenothera glazioriana (evening primrose), Angelica gigas, Campanula medium (Canterbury bells), Lunaria (honesty) & Myosotis (forget-me-nots). If you have any of the above growing already in your garden, remove the desiccated plant when they have set seed and shake the seed heads around where you would like them to be before you compost the plant. They will get on and do their own thing. Just be careful when weeding. You will soon get used to the seedling leaves and selectively weed around them. But if you want to introduce some of the above, now is the time to sow them into trays and repeat some of that spring, seed sowing, joyful anticipation.

Business Support

Introducing Our PC & Mac Repair Workshop... Here at Harris Consultancy, we’ve always been focussed on making the

most of our technology. Whether that is utilising and building award winning websites, creating unforgettable messages on social media or consulting on business process to ensure you run more efficiently. Of course, to do this, we need reliable fast and responsive technology to run our businesses and operations, naturally we are technology minded and have been helping businesses achieve this for the last 15 years. So, it made sense to formally offer our expertise to the wider community and businesses to help them achieve more running more efficiently and effectively. Due to being a digital business we can offer extremely competitive prices and have been fortunate enough to receive some lovely reviews recently whilst dipping our toes into our new service. Our workshop can offer Windows/Apple software upgrades, speed optimisations, hard drive replacements to name a few. Apple in particular charge the earth for upgrades and repairs to their technology, we understand that these costs are not always easy to swallow and we are able to offer rates that are easy to digest. Some older Apple models can even be upgraded to a newer operating system and components replaced to ensure that there are still many years of enjoyment left. Likewise, an older Windows computer can be upgraded to a newer operating system in most cases with a few changes to components if needed. These popular services can be undertaken usually within a short turnaround time and even at weekends and evenings, so you can get your computer back in no time or ready for the working week. Our approach is to offer a service that will extend the life of your technology, so the investment will be worthwhile and future proof your kit. We are always honest and if we feel that it is not economical to repair or upgrade then we will tell you. Our upgrades and repairs come with warranty too, so you have complete peace of mind. We offer a no fix no fee service, so you can feel rest assured and confident that your technology is in safe hands and if we can’t fix it, there will be no money exchanged! In addition, if you or your company is looking for tech support (remote or otherwise), we can also arrange for support services or a meeting to discuss your ongoing requirements. As technology moves forward its important that you and your business are safeguarded against hardware and software failure, including the defence against viruses and security threats. That’s why we are also happy to discuss any worries or concerns that you may have in this regard, (Free of charge) with advice on the best course of action to protect you and your business. We can also conduct an audit and offer our recommendations. Technology over the past year has played a crucial part in helping to keep us safe by allowing remote work, keeping our businesses running and allowing us to see loved ones, even if only on a screen! Whilst we adapt to a more normal life again, its important we look after and maintain the very kit that has been looking after us particular since there are many older computers that are running outdated vulnerable software. Do not hesitate to contact us for free no obligation quote or to review your current IT position! M: 07799 282042 | E: hello@harris-consultancy.co.uk W: www.harris-consultancy.co.uk
