Full circle ringing is a skill to that takes on average 8-12 hours of tuition grasp but months of practice to perfect and learning to ring the bell is only the 1st step. very month we focus on particular music groups or events in the area and finding out more about our local musicians. This month we are going to The Band With No Name’, focus on ‘The a fantastic local band who regularly perform at local events and functions!
Q: How did the TBWNN start?
A:
We were put together for a charity gig back in 2010/2011 by our friend, guitarist Kev Lucas. We enjoyed it so much we ended up playing a few more gigs and before we knew it, a band was born. Kev couldn’t stay on due to other commitment but he recommended one of his star students, that turned out to be George. We’ve been regulars on the local music scene ever since, playing festivals, parties and wedding.
Q A:
: What influences the band musically?
We all share a love of great rock music. Despite the age gaps in the band, we tend to agree on most songs we perform. We do seem to play a lot of 90s rock, from Stereophonics to Foo Fighters.
us about some of your Q: Tell favourite performances? A:
One that springs to mind was a hen do. We played to 50 merry (and loud) hens. Our two hour set was preceded by a young man who took off all his clothes which brought a tear to our sound guy who had to stay to play his songs through our PA. He’s never been the same since!
Q: Do you have any upcoming gigs? A :
We are playing at The Birdcage in Thame on Saturday 11th November and Haddenham Winterfest on Saturday 9th December.

I have run a music night at a local pub for 10 years, mc’d music in the park, help run stages Thame Town Music Festival to name a few. Phil has mc’d First Thursday Music Club in Thame since it started. We don’t let the others out due to insurance costs and supervision issues.

A Swap Shop is a unique way of recycling and reusing unwanted goods, things that you don’t use anymore but you don’t want to see ending up in the landfill site.
Most of us will have items that we don’t want or use, but they are just too good to throw away. Here is your chance to see them being used by someone else, which is much more satisfying than throwing them out. Just bring along your unwanted items – good condition only - on the day, and take away anything you see that you want. You can just bring or you can just take. You don’t have to bring to take or vice versa. Everything is free. Everything is donated. Suitable items could include good condition toys, books, CDs, bric-a-brac, linen, clothes, baby equipment, kitchenware, small electrical items, unwanted gifts. Please don’t bring items after 11.30am. Small electrical goods with CE mark only accepted. Goods left over will be taken to charity shops or clothes banks or recycled if unsuitable for reuse.

Off the back of the success of their First Birthday gathering last month coupled with the launch of the exciting new Taster Events, The Deli at No.5 are now gearing up for their second year in business with their Special Events diary filling up fast and Christmas at the forefront of their minds. From the beginning of next year, The Deli will be holding ticketed events for Taster Evenings which will include British Wine and Cheese Pairing, Gin & Cheese Pairing and Wine & Charcuterie Tasting, one of which is being hosted by Chef, Ben Dulley who is the owner of Cotswold based business, ‘SaltPig Curing Company Ltd.’ All products produced by SaltPig are made from local rare breed pigs and all are fully traceable to their breed. In contrast to other producers Ben strives to create the right environment for the meat to cure and dry slowly, which allows nature to play its part in developing a product distinct in flavour, making it very specific to them. And with his background as a Head Chef, Ben is sure to conjure up some delightful bites to enjoy at the forthcoming event at The Deli at No.5. If however you can’t wait that long and you want in on the action at the Deli now then you can visit The Birdcage every other Tuesday where Hannah & Joe have joined forces with the team there to host Cheese Board & Gin Pairing Evenings. The all-new Peugeot 5008 SUV is a good-looking car that doesn’t reek of middle-age blandness. That’s the opinion of our motoring journalist, Tim Barnes-Clay. Read his review to find out more about the car.
T
he launch of the latest 5008 reveals a car that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but one that is 190mm lengthier than its sister, the five-seater 3008, and 110mm broader than the withdrawing version of the 5008. The fresh 5008 comes with five trim grades. They are: Active, Allure, GT Line and GT. Powerplant choices are 130ps and 165ps petrol engines or 100, 120, 150 and 180ps diesels. There’s a selection of transmissions, ranging from six and eight-speed auto boxes to a six-speed manual. The 5008 SUV’s seven-seater cabin is adaptable, with a third tier of chairs that fold flush into the boot floor. What’s more, the seats can be detached to boost standard luggage room from 720 litres to a whopping 1060 litres. On all 2017 5008s, a state-of-the-art, 12.3-inch ‘i-Cockpit’ digital display has been fitted, as well as an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is attached to the top of the dashboard. Due to the flexibility of its cabin, the 5008 SUV enables you to be able to transport more members of your family about. The second row of chairs is better than many rivals’ because they are individual and move back and forth - and tilt back, too. The couple of seats that make up the third tier are also separate, and can be drawn up from the load floor in a single ‘pulling’ action. The vehicle boasts two lidded underfloor stowage areas behind the front seats. And in the back of the driver’s and passenger’s chairs, there are two fold-away tables. These are handy for picnicking, or for when the kids fancy doing a bit of colouring-in. The 1.2-litre petrol unit I drove is unexpectedly powerful and it makes light work of overtaking, whichever kind of road you’re on. Motorways are where it feels most at home, though, staying planted, comfortable and hushed at 70mph. The driving position is excellent, now that Peugeot’s latest ‘i-Cockpit’ is fitted. The instruments and dials can be seen easily above the tiny, sporty steering wheel, and the highmounted touchscreen is straightforward to use.

The only fly in the ointment is the 5008 SUV’s six-speed manual transmission. It shifts in a rather arthritic way, especially when engaging first gear. The auto ‘boxes are smoother and they change up and down the cogs quickly and precisely. The French motor’s steering is a little too light, but thanks to excellent body stability, the drive always inspires confidence. The 5008 SUV Allure 1.2L Puretech 130 S&S is predicted to be the most popular model at £26,295. The base level is the Active 1.2L Puretech 130 S&S, priced at £24,495 and the flagship GT BlueHDi EAT8 180 S&S will set you back £35,895. If you have no choice but to own a family wagon, then this is one you should consider - it’s got the looks and the thrills.

I’ve been named as an executor. What does this mean? I
f you have been asked to be an executor, you will be named as such in the deceased’s Will. Around six million people have experience of acting as the executor of a Will but just 4% realise that they are legally responsible for the accurate distribution of the estate that is entrusted to them.
So what does the role of the executor entail? An executor is responsible for administering the estate and is accountable to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the beneficiaries. The process of administrating the estate can be daunting given the legal paperwork, tax calculations and various administrative tasks that need to be accurately completed. It typically involves applying for the Grant of Probate, dealing with all aspects of their assets (such as property, shares and personal possessions), settling debts and paying any Inheritance Tax and Income Tax. Whatever’s left is transferred to the beneficiaries. In order to carry out their duties, executors need to have a copy of the Will along with relevant financial information on the deceased’s holdings. It is important that they keep a clear record of each step they take during the process, especially if Inheritance Tax is payable on the estate. This way, there is a clearly documented audit trail should any questions need to be answered at a later date. Executors are subject to a statutory ‘duty of care’ under the Trustee Act of 2000, meaning they must act in the best interests of the estate and beneficiaries. Consequently, they can be held financially and legally liable for any mistakes made in handling the deceased’s assets.
How long will it take?
Usually two executors are appointed in the Will
and the time it takes to administer the estate can depend on whether the executors agree on how to proceed. As a result, some people chose to appoint a professional executor who can provide independent and impartial advice. The time needed to administer an estate will also depend on its size and complexity, but on average this will take between 9 – 12 months for a professional. Administering an estate yourself can be an overwhelming process, particularly as executors will also be dealing with the loss of a loved one. Dealing with bereavement is never easy and people react differently to the emotional stress it can cause. For some executors the estate administration process can seem overwhelming. However, you can chose to appoint a specialist to do the work on your behalf.

Fibromyalgia, Myalgic Encephalitis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ... Fibromyalgia (FM) and the related conditions of Myalgic Encephalitis (ME) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) are massively debilitating. It is difficult to provide a definitive diagnosis given that symptoms can be related to many other conditions, such as Lupus. Investigations can prove time consuming, with a process of elimination, and criteria for the patient to have experience at least 3 months in pain. This process can be very stressful. There are no lab tests or X-rays that are able to identify this chronic condition. Once given a diagnosis the patient is faced with no effective conven-tional medical solution. There is no clear cause and no clear solution. Many of my clients present in my clinic with either a diagnosis of MF, ME, CFS or with symptoms and issues that can match any of these conditions. The history, for each, is usually the same: ‘I’ve been to the doctors, I’ve had tests (bloods), I’m in pain, my lifestyle is limited, I’m off work’ or ‘ The prescribed painkillers aren’t helping and I’m not sure about taking antidepressants” and ‘I was referred to a pain clinic but really the exercises are too much for me’, and I was told to manage the pain’ Some patients are told that they imagine the pain. This is such a common scenario in my clinic, generally the clients I see are female, although children and teenagers present with the same issues. For each this is a long term chronic disorder.

The underlying causes are not know, however there is substantial evidence to suggest that stress, trauma, injury and post viral situations are seriously considered.

Food Intolerance & sensitivity testing

Vega testing can test for sensitivity to substances such as wheat,
dairy, pollens and chemicals, as well as testing for vitamin and mineral imbalance. As a Vega practitioner, I can use this simple test to help identify which substances are causing problems. You may or may not have some idea of the food or food groups that cause you a problem. However, it is really useful to keep a food diary for at least a week before testing. • • •

It is important that you drink plenty of water before, as testing is most effective when you are hydrated The Vega Test method uses two hand electrodes – one the patient holds, the other is a testing “pen” used by the practitioner. Both electrodes are attached to the Vega machine. Vials of substances – food, drink, chemical etc – are put into the machine while the practitioner presses the testing pen onto an acupressure point on the patient’s hand. The response of the patient’s body to each substance is determined by change in electromagnetic conductivity and shown on the machine’s voltage meter. Once problematic substances have been identified, we will discuss whether they need to be avoided, or whether combinations of foods may need to be changed or cut out of the patients diet completely. It is useful to keep a food diary for a month until the next follow up appointment. We will also talk about diet, lifestyle, and medical history, and as a registered homeopath, I will normally give a remedy to help with symptoms. The Vega machine can also test for sensitivity to pollens and other substances – you can even bring something along, such as washing powder or medication to be tested in the machine. Note: Homeopathy is safe for all ages and all stages. Vega testing is not suitable for those in pregnancy or with a pacemaker. Always check with your GP if you have any concerns about your health.

irst aid is the care given before the emergency services arrive. A blocked airway can kill someone in three to four minutes yet it can take eight to 12 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. Knowing how to open someone’s airway could mean the difference between life and death. Almost 4000 people per year die because of accidents in their homes and statistically you are far more likely to be called upon to administer first aid to someone you know than to a stranger. The top ten injuries or accidents in the home are: Falls Strikes and Collisions Cuts and Abrasions Foreign Bodies Over exertion e.g. moving heavy furniture Burns and Scalds Crush Injuries Bites and Stings Puncture wounds e.g. stepping on a child’s toy Suspected poisoning There are many myths and misconceptions about injuries. Here are the most common: •

Butter or cream is good for a burn? NO, immerse the injured limb in cool water.

If you can move a limb it’s not broken? NO, the only sure way to tell if a limb is broken is to x-ray it.

Put a bleeding wound under a tap? NO, by all means clean the wound if required but water will wash away the body’s own clotting agents so compression with a clean dressing is the best way to staunch the flow.
•
Make someone sick if they’ve swallowed poison? NO, this can block their airway or, if the substance is corrosive, damage it further.
Most first aid is common sense but learning some simple skills such as chest compressions (CPR) and the Heimlich manoeuvre will increase your confidence if an emergency arises. There are many organisations which provide short courses, most last just half a day. Your employer might provide training but if not you could enrol the whole family on a course and make an event of it. Even young children will feel empowered to learn new skills and you never know when they might come in useful! Sparkler safety
Did you know that sparklers get five times hotter than cooking oil? Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to a child under five.
Always buy sparklers from a reputable shop to make sure that they conform to British Standards. This means that they should have BS 7114 written on the pack. Don’t buy sparklers from anywhere you’re not sure about, such as the back of a van or from a temporary, unlicensed market stall. Read the instructions in daylight.
