In addition to crowdfunding, Thorncliffe Tennis Club has submitted an application for a "match funding" grant from Sports England. This potential grant could provide up to £10,000, matching funds raised through the crowdfunding platform. The club believes that with the community's backing, they can not only resurface the courts but also create a safer and more enjoyable playing environment for all. Supporters are urged to contribute to this noble cause, ensuring the longevity of tennis in the northern Sheffield community. To contribute or learn more about the campaign, visit www. The 1st XV gained some benefit over the weekend with an opposed training session involving local Rugby League side Hillsborough Hawks. Both teams benefitted & learned a bit about the other code, & further joint initiatives may well follow on the back of this success. Off the field, talismanic backrower Pete Newton will have an operation this week to repair a ruptured ACL ligament, & clean out some residual meniscus damage. This will certainly curtail his involvement for the rest of the season, & the Club, whilst

In pursuit of securing the necessary funds, Thorncliffe Tennis Club has applied for sports grants, including The National Lottery Community Funding. However, these avenues alone are insufficient to cover the total costs of the resurfacing project. Undeterred, the club has made the strategic decision to launch a crowdfunding campaign, appealing to the wider community for support.
With another frustrating ‘bye’ week at the weekend, Globe Holidays-sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby will be aiming for a league double over West Yorkshire rivals, Leeds Modernians when they clash again this weekend, following Stocksbridge’s recent victory over the same opponents. Head Coach Andy Lawrence will be looking to select from a strong playing roster, with skipper, that man Adam Frith not yet fit enough to play a full part, the only absentee.

The pressing issue at hand is the dire need for resurfacing the three outdoor courts, essential for sustaining the club's vibrant tennis community. While the club has diligently set aside some funds for such projects, the substantial cost involved – a staggering £50,000 – looms large, and the club finds itself only partway toward this ambitious goal.

Stocksbridge remain 3rd in the Counties 4 Yorkshire (phase 2) South league ladder, & will look to further improve on this with winnable fixtures at Leeds Modernians at the weekend, followed by a bus trip to the East Coast to take on Hornsea RUFC on the 27th Jan, before the next scheduled home fixture against Knottingley on February 3rd, with a kick-off time at Coal Pit Lane stadium of 2.15 pm.

How to beat Str8ts – Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. These need to be filled in with numbers that complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set of numbers with no gaps but can be in any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black cells remove that number as an option in that row and column, and are not part of any straight. Glance at the solution to see how ‘straights’ are formed.
