Wharncliffe Side’s All-Stars It was a day filled with excitement and celebration as Wharncliffe Side Primary School emerged as the champions of the first-ever Primary All-Stars inclusive football event. The 7-a-side tournament, organised by Sheffield Wednesday, took place at the Jubilee Sports Ground community facility and showcased the talent and inclusivity of primary school students.
The event, designed for mixed teams of Year 6 boys and girls, brought together young athletes from various backgrounds, uniting them in the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Brett Pitcher, who played a pivotal role in organising the tournament, expressed his delight at the resounding success of the event and the enthusiasm displayed by all participants. "It's heartwarming to see these young boys and girls coming together on the field to share their love for the beautiful game." The winning team, Wharncliffe Side Primary School, displayed exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, ultimately securing the title. Freya, one
of the girls from the victorious Wharncliffe Side team, expressed her excitement about the event. "I loved it! It's the first time I have ever played football outside school, and I'd love to do it again," Freya said with a beaming smile, highlighting the positive impact the event had on young participants. Class Teacher and Head of PE at Wharncliffe Side Primary Nigel Hartley said. "I’m really proud of them all. The Primary AllStars event is all about promoting inclusion and providing an opportunity for children to showcase their football skills, regardless of their gender or background." The inaugural Primary AllStars inclusive football event served as a shining example of the power of sports to bring people together and create opportunities for all. It is events like these that inspire the next generation of athletes and promote the values of inclusivity, fairness, and teamwork. Congratulations to Wharncliffe Side Primary School and all the participants who made this event a memorable success.
