COMMUNITY SPRING INTO ACTION FOLLOWING SHOP FIRE A POPULAR newsagents and Chinese takeaway in Oughtibridge suffered from a destructive blaze on Thursday March 8. Fire crews arrived at around 1pm in the afternoon to tackle the fire which had spread from the newsagents and into Jade Garden next door. Unfortunately, the fire reignited in the evening and the flames once again had to be doused. The community have pulled around the owners of both the Chinese and Kevin and Doreen at the newsagents and are raising funds to help. A Just Giving page was set up and has currently raised £1,850. The description read: “Lewis and his wife have had the shop for years and now in the space of an hour, it’s gone! A livelihood taken away. There also appears

to be smoke damage, at least, to Jade Garden next door. The family also live here. Two families’ lives wrecked. They’ve both served the community and thought it would be nice to give something back to let them know we care and go some way to getting back on their feet.” Ann Power, a resident of Westnall House sheltered housing, across from the shops, told Look Local: “The shop has been there for over 60 years and it’s brilliant. We always get our newspapers and nothing is too much trouble for them. It’s been passed on through the family and has been there for over 60 years. It would be such a shame to lose it. I hope they can come back.” You can donate to the fund by visiting https://www.justgiving.com/ crowdfunding/catherine-fletcher

GRAB A HOT DEAL AT FLAMES
Flames of Sheffield have helped more than 4,000+ customers with their fire, fireplace, stove and central heating needs since they first opened their doors in 2005.
“Although the Autumn was a very busy time for us in terms of fires, fireplaces, stoves and central heating, as we start to come out of Winter and begin to enter Spring, it is a great time to look at having any home improvements completed, especially as we have many great offers available in our Hot Winter Sale”, commented Director Lee Day. There are great household savings to be made by installing an ‘A’ rated energy efficient central heating boiler, with the average saving being of between £300£400 per year. A solid fuel stove is also a great way to cut down on gas usage in many homes and, as long as the stove is DEFRA Approved and the correct fuel like seasoned/kiln dried timber or smokeless coal is used, then this again can be a great
alternative to heat large areas of a home.
“Many of the solid fuel stoves being used in Sheffield and the surrounding areas have almost certainly not been installed by a qualified HETAS engineer. This can lead to many problems and issues in terms of home insurance being invalidated, being incorrectly sealed and fumes leaking into the room(s) or building regulations visiting and insisting a stove is removed due to noncompliance. At Flames of Sheffield we offer a complete project managed service from start to finish for a customer and are happy to take responsibility for installing and certificating a solid fuel stove or fire/fireplace”, explained Senior Sales Advisor Helen Gowling. Flames of Sheffield are able offer a different proposition to the majority of central heating installers as they operate from their Hillsborough Barracks bricks and mortar showroom, are open 7 days a week, are not
just a mobile number in a book or on the side of a van, plus they have their consumer credit licence and therefore offer a competitive finance facility. Flames are also an Accredited Installer for the entire
Worcester-Bosch range of boilers and therefore offer a minimum 7 Year Parts & Labour Guarantee on all boilers and can even give their customers a 10 Year Guarantee on a selected range of boilers, subject to terms and conditions. They install Combi, Conventional and System Boilers which they also back with a 1 Year Guarantee on the quality of how it is installed to give their customers extra piece of mind. “We at Flames Of Sheffield, truly are a local, independent specialist fire, fireplace, stove and central heating specialist and run specially selected promotional offers during the year on a wide range of products. If a customer requires a high efficiency fire, a large amount of heat output or an electric fire with a unique flame
picture, we are always able to meet their needs, plus we are able to offer long guarantees on many of these fires”, commented Senior Sales Advisor Sue Martin. Having firmly established themselves over the past 12 years as a local destination retailer for anyone looking for a special fire, fireplace, solid fuel stove or central heating boiler/system, they consistently offer customers a range of high quality products, value for money competitive pricing and a huge choice of bespoke ranges, whilst always maintaining their very highly rated standard of customer service. Flames of Sheffield are located on the Upper Mall at Hillsborough Barracks (Morrisons) and FREE parking is available via the Langsett Road or Penistone Road entrances. WORRALL Memorial Hall hosted the 100th birthday party of popular member of the community, Ivy Nornable, on Friday last week. Although her birthday was on Sunday March 11, a special party was arranged at the hall for Ivy to enjoy a fantastic spread of food, some music and a birthday cake. Music has been a big part of Ivy’s life, with her being involved in four choirs, including Stannington Festival Choir, Chapeltown
Choir and Sheffield Teacher’s Choir. Born on March 11 1918 and growing up in a house on Middlewood Road in Hillsborough, Ivy was a hairdresser by trade but was called upon to work in the Post Office during the Second World War. She married husband Douglas in 1940, before he went away to serve with the Royal Signals with the army for almost five years. They had daughter Anita, now 72, and enjoyed a very happy life together.
Douglas sadly passed away seven years ago but Ivy remains extremely active. Her other main passion apart from singing was budgies and she had 70 of the little birds in the garden of their house in Worrall where she moved to in 1960. Ivy was president of Worrall Women’s Institute and worked on the committee of the Women’s Institute. She is also a keen needle crafter and loves crochet, knitting and embroidery. Her singing also took her to
local residential homes where she would perform for the residents and she also delivered meals and gave talks about budgies. When asked about the secret to still loving life at 100, she told Look Local: “It’s important to keep a busy mind. Having such a lovely husband and daughter helped too. I like to be involved in the community, I’m a people person. I love to mix. “I’m so happy to see my friends come together for this party, I’m just waiting for my telegram from the Queen now!”
Free writing workshop in conjunction with Wildlife Trust aims to help area A FREE writing workshop will be held to augment the work of the Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Partnership. The project has been set up by Rotherham and Sheffield Wildlife Trust to support initiatives that will help to develop and enhance the area that lies between Sheffield and the Peak District National Park.
Much of this falls into our own local area, the Upper Don Valley, Ewden, Bradfield and Langsett. The partnership is working in conjunction with other interested parties like Yorkshire Water and local parish councils. At the moment there are 27 projects underway, many of which have multiple strands including landscape, wildlife, heritage and culture.
Ignite Imaginations has been commissioned to run several free creative workshops. If you enjoy writing poetry or prose and have something to say about the place you live, then do come and join this re-arranged session, to be held in Stocksbridge Library on Saturday March 17 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Stocksbridge set to stage huge musical event AROUND 400 local musicians are busy polishing up their performances to stage Stocksbridge and district’s biggest musical event for 80 years. The Valley Music Festival on Saturday March 24 is an all-day event with free music throughout the day, culminating in a ticketed evening concert with music to suit all ages compered by BBC broadcaster Trisha Cooper. The festival is a joint presentation by Inyerface Arts and Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir. A music festival was started in the district in 1907 and ran for more than 30 years. Organisers hope the revival will become an annual event and create a fund to help young local musicians. Local music groups, including schools, will perform throughout the
day at the Venue and at the Fox Valley shopping centre bandstand. Two hundred musicians will take part in the evening concert at the Venue for which tickets are selling fast. Donations will be encouraged at the daytime events. Community musician, soprano and teacher Hilary Osborn, who leads Inyerface Arts, said: “This has been an amazing project to work on. There is a real heart and support in the community for this to happen. It is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together to feel good and to celebrate a love of music and performing and to share that with the community.” Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir secretary Rob Firth said: “It is a wonderful thing to bring so many young and older musicians together. Never before have so many musicians from
the district performed together on the same day.” Taking part in the evening Saturday Night Live concert are Deepcar Brass Band, Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir, Waldershelf Singers, the folk-rock band Red House, classical pianist Matt Johnson, young singing group No Identity, Steel Valley Beacon Arts, who will sing numbers from their locally-written hit musicals, the Inyerface Band and special guests. The evening will end with the massed voices singing the Rita MacNeil classic Working Man. Concert tickets at £10, £5 for 16s and under, free for accompanied under 12s. You can reach the box office on 07939 256269; buy online at www. ticketsource.co.uk/inyerfacearts and get tickets fromStocksbridge Keys, 524 Manchester Road, Stocksbridge.
Archive open afternoon: medicine, health and hospital parades ECCLESFIELD Parish Council’s Past & Present Archiving Project is holding a ‘Meet the Archive’ event on the theme of Medicine, Health and Hospital Parades. This is taking place on Thursday March 22 at the Parish Council Offices, Mortomley Lane, High Green from 1pm to 6pm. It is being organised with Dave Juett, from the Ecclesfield Library Reminiscence Group, who will be bringing his displays on the Ecclesfield Hospital Parades and with a display from the Grenoside & District Local History Group’s recent health exhibition. The group will have some of their own collection of local history material on display including photos, maps, pamphlets and brochures.
There will also be an opportunity to see some of the slide shows they’ve put together, go onto the website to view the images there, and look at a collection of local history books and reference material.
“We’re sure that there will be people from the local area who will be able to recognise them. The photograph shown, of a 1953 Coronation Tea Party at Potter Hill, is one example.
A spokesperson told Look Local: “We would like more people to get involved with the archiving project and our open afternoon will be a chance for people to come along and find out more. You don’t have to be a history expert or have lived all your life in the area to take part. Young or old, everyone can contribute.
“Our open afternoon is a free drop-in event and everyone is welcome. It begins at 1pm and finishes at 6pm.”
“The aim of the project is to capture the rich and varied local history from across the parish. One of the things we are keen to do is to put more ‘names to faces’ for some of the photographs that we’ve had donated to the archive.
For more details of this and other events or to find out more, please contact, Christine, at the Parish Council Offices, Mortomley Lane, High Green, Sheffield S35 3HS; telephone: 0114 2845095; email:Christine.handley@ecclesfield-pc.gov.uk or see our facebook page Ecclesfield Civil Parish Past and Present Archiving Project for more information. Penistone MP responds to the latest Barnsley Housing Proposals
Issue 1000
Call 0114 283 11 00
PENISTONE MP Angela Smith has responded to Barnsley Council’s latest proposals to build thousands of new houses in the borough. The MP said that while she recognises the need to build new homes, she is concerned that these latest proposals will have undue negative effects on the many villages in the west of the borough. Disagreeing with the planning inspector, the MP argues that the previous inclusion in earlier drafts of the plan of several safeguarded land sites demonstrated ably that the local authority has planned for potential future expansion of rural villages, whilst recognising that such expansion would be inappropriate at this time. To reverse that decision, she believes, would be wrong.
“Our shops provide vital funding for our Animal Centre and while ever this shop is out of action, we would be losing that revenue.
The thieves stole the till drawer and tore the shop apart, making away with only around ÂŁ50 cash, but leaving a trail of utter destruction.
“This year was already a bit rocky for us, last week’s snow has dented our takings badly, so we’re asking for help. We’ve set up a Virgin Money Giving appeal to help us get back on our feet, please donate what you can and share as widely as you can!
A spokesperson for the Sheffield branch of the RSPCA said: “It’s a quiet area right opposite a church, so we simply can’t be an easy target any more. We need the shop securing.
Commenting on the new plans, Angela said: “These latest plans, recommended by the government inspector, in my view could substantially change some of the smaller villages in the west of the borough with many of the smaller recommended sites only contributing a marginal positive beneficial effect at the cost of changing the character of these communities forever.
“We now need to replace two front shop glass panels, rear door and lock and also repair our till which is leased. Luckily we are insured and this will get the shop sorted, but we would like to raise some money to have CCTV fitted to this shop and also pay the insurance excess.
“I’m now asking Barnsley planners and the inspector to think again on many of these sites. The previous plan made much more sense in recognising there is a need for housing, but not at the expense of completely changing the character of some of the smaller villages around the west of the borough.

LAST Tuesday, March 6, staff at the RSPCA charity shop in Chapeltown arrived to work to find that it had been broken into.
All-in-all, the break-in cost the charity around ÂŁ2,000 in damage. This is the second time this particular shop has been targeted in the last year, so funds have now had to be ploughed into updating the security measures and cover the insurance excess.
Instead, she argues, that the sites present serious issues with regard to loss of agricultural land and the extent to which they will change the character of the villages themselves.

Police arrived to survey the scene, taking some forensic evidence. They’ve checked all local CCTV but with no joy. The till drawer turned up beyond repair in a nearby cricket field.
In her response, the MP also raised concerns about the methodology used by the inspectors, which seems to assume all the proposed sites will have a significant positive effect.

One year has passed since the day I lost you 17.3.2017. Always in my thoughts, forever in my heart, sleep tight Tez, you have earned you rest. The ever present sound of a diesel going through it’s gears is the steady beat and constant rhythm he had known for many a year. It’s the lullaby that late at night his mind still longed to hear. He could still see those endless roads with his inner eye. He couldn’t forget the visions of those unpolluted skies, he still used to feel the wind and hear it’s tender sighs. Those memories stayed inside and lingered until he died. They’re part of what he’s made of. They were forged into his soul. They came from years of truckin’ and they’re what made him whole. Miss you Tez, Ang Sons Mark and Carl, Daughter Nicola, Son-in-Law Mick. Grandson Jacob, Grandaughter Georgie Unbreakable Love xxxxxxx

It’s not too late to make a will... Hello, I’m Jane Bowland, your local consultant of 10 years experience. We are experts in helping people arrange their wills, trusts and lasting powers of attorney. I specialise in helping all kinds of people gain peace of mind by providing professional estate planning services, but with a personal touch. I offer a FREE consultation without obligation for anybody who would like to know more about any of the following:
• Making a basic will • Setting up lasting powers of attorney • Protecting your home from care fees • Pre–paid funeral plans Having a Will in place ensures your assets go to who you choose. It makes the whole process much easier for the people you leave behind and it puts in black and white exactly what you want to happen, avoiding any misunderstanding or arguing. Setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney gives the people that YOU choose the legal right to look after your financial and personal affairs if you become unable to do so. Without one in place, your spouse, partner or family members are NOT automatically able
to take over. Make sure you avoid the distress this can cause you and your loved ones. I know that planning for the future is a very personal matter. Not everyone is able or wants to travel to an appointment in town to sort out their affairs. I can visit you at a convenient time in the comfort and privacy of your own home to discuss your circumstances. My visit and consultation is completely free and you are under no obligation
to do anything. If you decide to make any arrangements you can be safe in the knowledge that all my professional services and work are fully insured and Collective Legal Solutions are members of the Society of Will Writers, so all my clients are assured of being fully protected at all times. All my clients (and their families) that I have helped in the past have been very happy with my services and tell me they have gained great peace of mind knowing that they have sorted everything out.
Jane came to see my parents to help them protect the family home from any future care fees. She really made us all feel at ease, especially my parents. We had no idea what we could do to protect Mum and Dad. Having set up trusts and Lasting Power of Attorney’s, Mum and Dad can get on with their lives without worrying, knowing everything is now in place. Thank you Jane!
We cannot believe it’s been a year ago, we miss you every minute of every day.
Also remembering our Dad George and Brother Robin and Blue. Love and miss you all with all our hearts xxx

Your Letters IAPT Health and Wellbeing service Thank you to Look Local for recently publishing an article about the IAPT Health and Wellbeing service. This is a new NHS service with options in this area, for people with long term health conditions who may also be struggling with stress, worry or low mood. We are working hard to try and let people know about our service, but this takes time so we were pleased that a number of people called us and booked in to the service after seeing the Look Local article.
WALDERSHELF Singers, the long established local mixed voice choir who rehearse at the Venue Stocksbridge, will be presenting a very special concert on Saturday April 28 at 7pm in St Mary’s Church, Bolsterstone.
Titled ‘For the Fallen’, the theme for the concert is a commemoration of the centenary of the ending of World War One through music, song and words, with all proceeds raised being donated to the Royal British Legion.
Cadets representing our Armed Forces will be in attendance and the concert will recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution and sacrifice made by many local men and their families. The singers supported by their musical director Rachel
Atkinson and pianist Claire McAuley, will be accompanied by a solo baritone Simon Johnston and a guest chamber orchestra. Admission will be by ticket only, prices are adults at £10, under 16s free and include refreshments.
These can be purchased from Kathryn on 07769252724 or by email at bookings@ waldershelfsingers.org. If you would like any further information, do not hesitate to contact Linda Rose on 01142885779.
My thanks
A good lady
As I am now in my 100th year, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you before it’s too late to Stocksbridge and the residents both past and present for being part of my life for so long.
The death of Councillor Sheila Constance is deeply shocking, my heart goes out to her loved ones. Sheila always came across to me as a lady. We have had some very heated debates, where we were at polar opposites and many tempers flared. I was always impressed by Shelia’s ability, once the meeting was over, to give me a genuine smile and wish me well. True class that cannot be faked, rest in peace good lady.
Apart from a few years when I was a child, which I spent in America, after the First World War, when dad went to war there.
David Ogle, Councillor, High Green volunteer
I have travelled a lot but have always been ready to return to my home town as I always felt safe here. At one time, everybody knew everybody else in Stocksbridge, of course the population was much less, and as I worked in my parents’ fish and chip shop from the age of 14, I knew lots of people, perhaps not always by name, but their faces were familiar.
My eyesight isn’t very good these days, so if anybody sees me on the rare occasions when I am out and I I wanted to let your readers know of a few five week don’t acknowledge you, please don’t take offence, courses coming up in North Sheffield. Grow your If you have ever thought about growing vegetables in pots, now is the time to give it a go! There is a huge variety of vegetables that can be grown in containers or smaller spaces to make ‘growing your own’ accessible to everyone. Some of the best veg to grow are Beetroot, Broad beans, Carrots, Dwarf French beans, Herbs, Peas, Potatoes, Radishes, Rocket, Runner beans, Chillies & Peppers, Salad leaves, Salad onions,
Salad turnips and Tomatoes. It’s just a question of right veg, right sized pot. Choose large deep pots to grow root vegetables such as potatoes and carrots, and shallower ones for beetroots and onions. Vigorous growing veg such as courgettes, tomatoes and beans need large pots filled with good compost to accommodate their roots. Lettuce and herbs can be grown in window boxes. Containers can dry out very quickly

Use compost specially designed for containers as it will hold onto water better and have extra nutrients added to get your plants off to a good start. Things to look out for when choosing the right one are soil and loambased composts, extra nutrients, plant food and water-retaining
granules. Most multipurpose composts are fine or a soil-based compost such as John Innes No3. For the greates choice of plants, grow from seed, but if you don’t mind too much about the variety, buy ready grown plants or plug plants from garden centres or mail-order suppliers. If growing from seed, check the instructions on the packet. Seed sowing time may vary depending on the crop but the main growing season for vegetables is from early spring to autumn.

Don’t forget to feed your crops on a regular basis. Pot grown veg run out of nutrients due to the limited amount of soil they have to grow in, so a feed of generalpurpose liquid fertiliser should be applied every couple of weeks. Finally, make sure you position your pots so they are in the best location for their growing needs. Most vegetable plants like lots of sun, so it’s important to site your containers where they will receive a good few hours of direct light a day. South or
west facing locations are the best. Climbers such as beans or peas can’t cope with windy or exposed spaces so a sheltered spot suits them best against walls or fences. If pots and containers are just part of your outside space then here are some gardening tips for this month from the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) … • Sow vegetable seeds and plant potatoes
• Feed containers with fresh compost • Mow the lawn on dry days (if needed) • Cut back winter shrubs • Keep your eyes peeled for weeds starting to come through • Start conserving water • Re-pot houseplants • Prune bush and climbing roses
• Protect new spring shoots from slugs • Plant summerflowering bulbs

Oughtibridge WMFC 3-0 Norton Oaks IN a game which the home side were expected to win comfortably against lowly opposition it proved anything but against a stubborn well organised Norton. Centre back Richard Honeyman missed twice firstly from a free header and then fired straight at the keeper.

Megan is on the button as she breaks record by two minutes A NORMAL racing programme resumed for Penistone Footpath Runners this weekend after recent weather disruptions. At the Yorkshire 20 mile road championships at Spenborough, Megan Button broke her own female club 20 mile record by two minutes to record a time of 2:34.51. She was ably assisted in her endeavour by Simon Pike, who encouraged her over the challenging course. The first race in the English Fell Championship took place at the Edale Skyline race in Derbyshire, run over 21 miles with 4,505 of climbs. Damian Kilpin was first PFR runner back in 3:21:33 in 94th place, followed by Steve Storey who was fifth V60 in 3:58.52 and Ian Charlesworth in 4:05.48. The Silkstone Shuffle trail race took place on Saturday, with 51 PFR members making up nearly a third of the field. Scott Hinchcliffe won the men’s race and Laura Gill won the women’s race. Lesley Parker was second lady, Julie Darigala first LV40, Barbara Haigh first LV70 and Alan Knox first M60 Seven members took part in the Retford Half Marathon on Sunday. First Back was Gareth Cooke in 18th in 77:37. Matt Robinson was third V50, narrowly missing out on a club record with 82:24. John Howsham beat the 90 minute barrier for the first time with 89:32. Dave Needham was third V70 in 130:06.
Just before half time Ross Brown fired an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area and early into the second half it was Brown again who played top scorer Callum Chambers through and he finished well. Ollie Black sealed the win when he converted from the penalty spot when Chambers was brought down.
Ladies hit Eastwood for six Eastwood Ladies 1 Oughtibridge WM Ladies 6 OUGHTIBRIDGE got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 6-1 win at mid table Eastwood Ladies to move within a point of league leaders Leicester with a game in hand. The hosts proved stubborn opponents in the opening period but Oughtibridge got their noses in front as Fran Godbehere volleyed in Annie Longmore’s corner. Eastwood levelled with a goal on the break, Anna Sensos with a great finish but Kathryn Mudge restored the lead with a sharp finish in a goalmouth scramble. After the break Oughtibridge got more on top and there were further goals from Codi Melia, Laura Cain, Lauren Turner and a second for Mudge to confirm the win. Oughtibridge now look forward to their big County Cup Semi Final as they host cup favourites Huddersfield Town Ladies at the War Memorial on Sunday 17 March, kick off is 2pm, admission is £2 including a souvenir programme. On paper, this looks an impossible task but having beaten Sheffield United Ladies in the third round Oughtibridge already have a cup shock in their locker.

Stocksbridge golf charity presentation EACH year, the captains of Stocksbridge and District Golf Club nominate a local charity and organise fund raising events, throughout their year of office. Last year, lady captain Kath Busfield nominated No Panic Sheffield, a voluntary organisation which provides help and support for sufferers of anxiety and depression. Weston Park Cancer Charity was nominated by gents captain Mick Meegan. This is an organisation dear to the hearts of so many people in Sheffield and the surrounding area. Patients travel from north Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and all of South Yorkshire to one of only three dedicated cancer care facilities in the UK. The charity helps fund phenomenal work in cancer research, treatment and great aftercare for thousands of patients and their families. This year the fantastic amount of £4,760 was raised by the efforts of the two captains. This also reflects the fantastic generosity of all club members and friends.

The Tour de Yorkshire trophy is coming to town SILKSTONE School is one of the school selected to receive a visit from the Tour de Yorkshire Trophy this week. Communities across the county will be welcoming the official Tour de Yorkshire trophies when they set off on their own tour this month and they will be in Barnsley on Wednesday 14 March! Both the men’s and women’s trophies will visit each of the start and finish towns on their travels – of which there are eight this year due to the tour extending to a four-day race. As well as visiting a number of preselected schools close to the route, the trophy will be stopping at Barnsley Town Hall at 11.45 to 12pm, before moving on to the Victorian Arcade and Barnsley Markets between 12.30pm and 1 pm. Later in the afternoon, the trophy will be at Asda, Old Mill Lane from 3.30pm to 5 pm. Cllr David Leech, cycling champion for Barnsley said: “On the day that marks 50 day’s to go until the tour begins, we’d love to see residents coming along to the town centre or to Asda
to see the now world-famous trophy and have their picture taken with it. “The excitement of the tour is growing and growing in Barnsley, and this is a great opportunity to see the trophy that could be won by world class cyclists.” Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive Sir Gary Verity said: “The trophy tour is a fantastic opportunity for communities to build up their excitement for the upcoming Tour de Yorkshire. “It’s always such a popular event and this year the trophies will be visiting eight towns and cities as the tour has extended to four days – so there are even more opportunities for people to see the trophies for themselves before the tour kicks off.” In 2017, the men’s trophy was won by Serge Pauwels of Dimension Data and Lizzie Deignan of Boels Dolmans claimed the women’s trophy. Ring hat-trick hero for Church at Staveley ANDY Ring hit a magnificent hattrick as Penistone Church FC beat Staveley Miners Welfare 4-1 away from home last Wednesday. Ryan Johnson opened the scoring for Church on 19 minutes and Andy Ring doubled the lead on 56 minutes. Kurtis Morley pulled one back for the opposition just after the hour but Ring struck twice in four minutes to complete his treble. After the game Manager Ian Richards said: “An excellent performance and
result tonight, to come to Staveley midweek after 10 days without any training or matches, to put a performance in like we did, from the first minute till the last minute was exceptional. “I asked the players to set the tone from the start in the first 15 or 20 minutes to play on the front foot and to get them facing their own goal and be aggressive in trying to win the ball back and that set us up to go on and get the first goal. “I also asked the players that when we got the ball into wide areas that they get
the ball into the box a little bit quicker because against Bottesford and Barton we didn’t do that and tonight they did really well.
“I thought we started the second half really well I thought we controlled them, we were first to everything in midfield and we were excellent with the ball and without the ball.
“We got the goal from Ryan Johnson, on the front foot, Kieran Ryan winning the ball back, taking a couple of touches making a well-timed pass to Ryan Johnson who continued his run into the box who scored with a great finish. Staveley couldn’t live that pace or tempo of play. They came back into it a little bit but we probably edged the first half.
“I thought Elliot Firth and Ash Ellis were exceptional tonight and well supported by Jordan Coduri and it’s quite nice people getting the headlines aren’t the usual ones because Ash and Elliot were our best players tonight. “I’m really pleased for Andy Ring to get his well-deserved hat trick, it came
from putting the ball in the box, Nathan Keightley playing down the left, trusting his left foot, good movement from Kieran Ryan allowing Andy to finish at the back post and then a bit of creativity from Jordan Coduri and Nathan Keightley on the corner it was good composure and cross by Nathan which allowed Ringy to do what he does well and get on the end of it and score his hat trick and then we just controlled the game and played really well.”
