TRUCK FRACTURES MAN’S SKULL
doctor retires - page 08
A MAN was seriously injured after being hit by a metallic arm mounted on a truck as he walked down the street in Penistone.
James Purdie was walking home down High Street in Penistone at around 11.30am on Saturday when he suddenly found himself on the floor with blood running down his face. He assumed that he had tripped and banged his head, but witnesses saw that a flat bed truck had driven past and the protruding hydraulic arm had hit him in the head. The 46-year-old is now recovering at partner Samantha’s home in Wharncliffe Side after having two wounds glued shut and eight sutures in another cut on his head. He has a fractured skull and is on strong painkillers. The truck didn’t did stop after striking Mr Purdie and witnesses say that it went on to hit a blue van further down the road, still not stopping despite breaking a window and scraping the paintwork. “I’d only been for a cheese and onion pasty from Gregg’s. I knew they were bad for you but I didn’t expect this! “In a way I’m glad it happened to me, if it had been someone more fragile like an elderly person or a child, it could have been a much more serious situation. I’m on the mend now – everything seems to be in the right place so it should heal. I would like to thank everyone who helped me at the scene, the well-wishers and my family for looking after me.
