Accident blackspot proposals under development SHEFFIELD City Council has been working on drawing up proposals to tackle the dangerous junction at Oughtibridge by Bridge Hill. The junction has been an accident blackspot with a number of incidents and accidents taking place at the junction. Now as a result of pressure from local campaigners, together with reporting of incidents involving car drivers, bikers and cyclists, the City Council has agreed to come up with proposals which local residents will be able to comment on and influence. Just last week Wharncliffe Side resident Helen Hess was involved in an incident at the junction, such that her car has now been written off. This prompted her husband, Tim, who as a cyclist has previously drawn attention to problems there, to contact the highways section again to call for immediate changes at this blackspot. Labour member and campaigner Terry Barrow said: “Last year nearly 700 people signed a petition I organised and presented to council and since then we’ve kept the pressure on by letting council officers know every time there has been an incident.
The Oughtibridge community gathered at the dangerous junction to call for action in March 2017.
“I’d like to thank the local school for the letters they wrote on the subject, the cycle forum for the pressure they brought and every individual who took the time to contact me to pass on information. It shows the power a community working together can have.

Plans to modernise Hillsborough Exchange go on display PLANS to enhance Hillsborough Exchange Shopping Centre, in the heart of Hillsborough, are due to be unveiled at a public exhibition. The new plans will look to refurbish the existing shopping centre, providing larger, enhanced retail spaces, along with 78 new high-quality homes on the upper floors. The public exhibition will take place on-site at Hillsborough Exchange, 19-20 Hillsborough Road, Sheffield, Wednesday June 20 between 4pm and 7pm. Developer Killultagh Estates’ proposals aim to “future-proof ” the centre, maintaining Hillsborough Exchange’s position as a community hub, and ensuring the centre meets the needs of modern retailers.
Killultagh estimate that around 240 new jobs will be created through these proposals. A Killultagh spokesperson said: “Hillsborough Exchange Shopping Centre has been serving the people of Hillsborough since 1988. “In those 30 years, the centre has changed very little and investment is now required to enhance and future-proof the centre. “We are proposing these plans so that evolving needs of consumers and retailers and the growing demands for high-quality affordable rented housing in the area can be met. “We believe the rejuvenated shopping centre will reinvigorate Hillsborough Exchange as a hub of the community to live, meet and shop.”

Community tennis court gets a new lease of life
THE Thurgoland Village Welfare has been fundraising to refurbish their old dilapidated tennis court.
Now, thanks to grant support from Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council’s Section 106, Sport England and Awards for All, the transformation is now complete.
Village residents, young and old, can now enjoy their new multi-activity games area, with facilities for tennis, basketball, netball and walking football.
that everyone can take full advantage of their chosen sports and the committee is arranging for a number of sports coaching sessions to promote its use.
The project has also received grant support from the Hedley Foundation and the Penistone Round Table to help purchase a comprehensive stock of sports equipment so

Vital flood alleviation project receives £3.5m funding from Sheffield City Region • Sheffield City Region Combined Authority approves £3.5m Local Growth Fund (LGF) funding for flood alleviation scheme in Sheffield
The scheme is intended to support businesses in the flood risk area, providing flood protection in order to encourage further growth and new investment.
• Project aims to manage flood risk on the River Loxley
Mayor Dan Jarvis said: “As we have seen in South Yorkshire in recent years, the impact of flooding can be devastating for our residents, communities and businesses.
A project to protect homes and businesses from flooding in Sheffield has been granted almost £3.5m in grant money. THE Sheffield City Region (SCR) Combined Authority has approved a grant from the Local Growth Fund (LGF) for phase one of Sheffield City Council’s Upper Don flood alleviation scheme. The project will provide a “comprehensive” flood defence within an area at high risk of flooding on the River Loxley, and where the River Loxley and River Don meet in north west Sheffield.
“I’m determined to do all that I can to minimise the risk of flooding, so I’m very pleased that we have been able to back this important flood defence scheme with £3.46m of funding.” As well as protecting people and property from flooding, this scheme could return “significant” value for money. The benefits include a £28.6m gross value added (GVA) saving that would otherwise be lost over a 10-year period, as well as £20.8m of GVA growth.
Sir Nigel Knowles, Chair of the Local Enterprise Partnership of Sheffield City Region, said: “With everyone pulling together, rigorously assessing and prioritising projects, we are ensuring that every pound invested in Sheffield City Region maximises economic growth, boosts businesses and creates more and better jobs. “This scheme will manage flood risk in a strategic and economically important area to the city region. “This is a great example of how business leaders, local authority leaders and the Mayor are working together to achieve transformational change and build a thriving, super-connected and successful economy.” The project will be delivered by Sheffield City Council. Councillor Jack Scott, cabinet member for planning and transport at Sheffield
City Council, said: “This is an excellent announcement which will see the businesses and residents of Malin Bridge and Hillsborough better protected from incidents of flooding. “We all know that flooding happens. We can’t prevent it, but we can and will protect our people in the best and least obstructive way possible. These new flood defences are working well in other parts of the city such as the Lower Don Valley and we believe that these new defences will repeat that success, whilst ensuring that the Loxley Valley can continue to be enjoyed by thousands of runners, cyclists and visitors. “Residents and businesses in parts of Hillsborough, Malin Bridge and Penistone Road will remember all too well the devastation caused by the floods of 2007. It is of course an area that we associate with the disaster of 1857 as well, although of course the circumstances
there were very different. These new defences will make the city safer and help to protect businesses who work and thrive in the Hillsborough area.” Richard Wright, executive director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, said: “Improving flood protection across Sheffield is a clear priority and strongly welcomed by residents and businesses. “These new defences will further strengthen the confidence people have in living, working and investing in Sheffield.” The scheme forms part of a wider flood alleviation scheme across Sheffield. Other projects include flood alleviation schemes to protect the Sheaf, Porter and Blackburn Brook valleys; a city-wide programme to renew key watercourse culverts and flood protection linked to new and existing social housing developments in the east of the city.

SHEFFIELD City Council is set to receive £363,000 this year to combat rough sleeping across the city. The news is welcomed in Sheffield as it will allow for more work to be done for rough sleepers who have been living on the streets on and off for a longer period of time. The funding means the council will be able to do more outreach work to prevent rough sleeping form occurring, wherever possible. Money will be used to fund suitable housing for individual rough sleepers and to give them the support they need to be able to stay in that housing instead of becoming a rough sleeper again.
This intensive housing support will be tailored to meet the needs of each individual rough sleeper, who most often have a variety of complex needs. Individuals will be worked with for longer periods of time and the tailored help will mean that they will be more likely to remain housed. More emergency accommodation for those who find themselves in crisis will also be made available and options for longer term housing will be improved. All of this support will be provided by the council working alongside other registered housing providers, the commissioned outreached team, voluntary services and private sector landlords.
Councillor Jim Steinke, Cabinet Members for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety said: “We welcome this funding which will help us focus on preventing rough sleeping in Sheffield. Our main aim will be to help people to sustain their independence. “Although we have a relatively low number of rough sleepers in the city, we recognise that those at risk of rough sleeping often have very complex personal circumstances. It’s our job to help and support them in the right way as much as possible so that it can help transform their lives into something much better than they might otherwise have hoped for. This is a welcome boost to funding to help us make a real difference this winter.”

THE Friends of Wortley Gardens are a voluntary group who support the maintenance and development of the gardens at Wortley Hall. Currently, they are clearing and replanting the Peace Walk at Wortley Hall, with the aid of a grant from South Yorkshire's Community Foundation, replacing overgrown bushes and weeds
with more wild-life friendly plants. The Peace Walk is a long-established deep flower and plant border where the Earls of Wharncliffe and his family walked to Wortley Church - enabling them to avoid any locals! Barry Tylee, chair of the Friends, said: “This is an important part of the Wortley Hall Gardens and
having found the original planting plan, we are now re-instating it. “We are very keen to involve more volunteers in this and anyone interested can contact me on 0114 2830056 or barrytylee@ btinternet.com. “Wortley Hall Gardens are a lovely place to work in and you get a free breakfast!”

It’s not too late to make a will... Hello, I’m Jane Bowland, your local consultant of 10 years experience. We are experts in helping people arrange their wills, trusts and lasting powers of attorney. I specialise in helping all kinds of people gain peace of mind by providing professional estate planning services, but with a personal touch. I offer a FREE consultation without obligation for anybody who would like to know more about any of the following:
• Making a basic will • Setting up lasting powers of attorney • Protecting your home from care fees • Pre–paid funeral plans Having a Will in place ensures your assets go to who you choose. It makes the whole process much easier for the people you leave behind and it puts in black and white exactly what you want to happen, avoiding any misunderstanding or arguing. Setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney gives the people that YOU choose the legal right to look after your financial and personal affairs if you become unable to do so. Without one in place, your spouse, partner or family members are NOT automatically able
to take over. Make sure you avoid the distress this can cause you and your loved ones. I know that planning for the future is a very personal matter. Not everyone is able or wants to travel to an appointment in town to sort out their affairs. I can visit you at a convenient time in the comfort and privacy of your own home to discuss your circumstances. My visit and consultation is completely free and you are under no obligation
to do anything. If you decide to make any arrangements you can be safe in the knowledge that all my professional services and work are fully insured and Collective Legal Solutions are members of the Society of Will Writers, so all my clients are assured of being fully protected at all times. All my clients (and their families) that I have helped in the past have been very happy with my services and tell me they have gained great peace of mind knowing that they have sorted everything out.
Jane came to see my parents to help them protect the family home from any future care fees. She really made us all feel at ease, especially my parents. We had no idea what we could do to protect Mum and Dad. Having set up trusts and Lasting Power of Attorney’s, Mum and Dad can get on with their lives without worrying, knowing everything is now in place. Thank you Jane! Mrs Boyle and family, Ecclesfield

Thank you for publicising my ride in Look Local, just to inform you that I completed my 100 mile ride (107 actually) on Sunday June 10 and my total collected for PCUK so far is ÂŁ765.
If you do have any old photographs of pupils, staff or of the local area and would be willing to let us take a copy please do get in touch. The schools will be very grateful and it would be lovely to have some old photographs for people to look through.

How to beat Str8ts – Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. These QHHG WR EH ÂżOOHG LQ ZLWK QXPEHUV WKDW complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set of numbers with no gaps but can be in any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black cells remove that number as an option in that row and column, and are not part of any straight. Glance at the solution to see how ‘straights’ are formed.
Wicker institution opens doors in Hillsborough
A SHEFFIELD institution is to open a new shop in Hillsborough after 50 years of trade at the Wicker. Philip Sisman has run his P.J. Sisman shop on the Wicker despite big brands and flooding and is now expanding to S6 with a new store. But why Hillsborough? And why now? Philip says: “We had loads of customers coming over from this side of the city – Stannington, Loxley and Oughtibridge. So we thought we’d give it a try. The unit the new shop will operate in is at 79 Middlewood Road and it was formerly the Jolly Fryer chip shop.

With a complete change in the type of shop, extensive work was desperately needed for the building and the result is very impressive. Philip added: “We’ve been a family business for over 50 years so we know what we’re on with. We specialise in cooker elements, bulbs, tubes, lamps and hard to source items not available in usual stores. With Hillsborough Electrical and Maplins closing, Sisman’s are the number one suppliers for this market in Hillsborough. The store will serve the public and trade and with a car park at the top of Loxley Avenue, it’s ideal for customers, no matter the size of the item. Sisman’s has built up a fantastic reputation and is recommended by both Atkinson’s and John Lewis, who it carries work out for. See their website at www.pjsismanelectrical.co.uk, call them on 07989245543 or call into the shop at 79 Middlewood Road, S6 4GX.

Paces in High Green celebrate 20th anniversary PACES held a children’s picnic party as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations last week.
over the next four years to offer full day care, 50 weeks of the year.
Paces are very proud to have been awarded ‘Most Inspirational Nursery Setting for Autism Support’ at the Sparkle Sheffield Awards on Saturday.
Two of the staff, Lorraine and Linda, have been involved with the group since the church hall days and began as volunteer parents. Many other members of staff have been at Steps for between 10 and 15 years.
Steps Community Nursery started life as a sessional playgroup in the local church hall and moved to the Paces Community Campus in late 1997. From January 1998 it opened as a pre-school nursery and grew
In May they held an open evening for past families, friends and supporters to join them for a piece of celebration cake. They have also launched a refreshed
logo, thanks to one of our parents. Other successes to celebrate this year include SENCO Cheryl receiving a Special Commendation from the Pre-School Learning Alliance, and being nominated by two of our parents for Sparkle Sheffield ‘Most Incredible SENCO’ Award. Also, Steps Nursery was nominated for Sparkle Sheffield ‘Most Inspirational PreSchool Nursery’.
Paces at Sheffield United ground The Blades recently opened the doors to one of their nominated charities, Paces of High Green, for a morning of activities on the hallowed turf of Bramall Lane. A group of over 70 children and young adults, with a range of motor disabilities, were accompanied by their parents, siblings and carers to take part in the fun. Dave McCarthy, Operations Director at United, said: “It was a privilege to be able to watch our guests and their families enjoy some time together having fun on the pitch. It proved to be a great experience also for some of our Bramall Lane staff, Academy players and members of our Ladies team, who all joined in the kick about.
“Paces is a fantastic local charity that works so hard to help improve the lives of those affected by motor conditions and it was great to play a part in supporting everyone associated with them.” Established in 1997, Paces was created by parents of children with Cerebral Palsy and has been dedicated to transforming the lives of those affected by acute conditions of neurological origin ever since. As the charity has evolved, success has been centred around conductive education, where those with a damaged central nervous system learn how to overcome the disabilities that they face. This is a process of experiences which allows afflicted individuals to move closer to independence.
Paces offer a variety of services to people of all ages via an approach that challenges complex neurological issues such as difficulties with movement, perception, cognition, social sills, emotional development and language skills. Vikki Mallinder, External Relations Officer at Paces, said: “Our trip to Sheffield United demonstrates the power of local collaboration in helping transform the lives of the individuals this charity represents. “Experiences like this provide an invaluable part to the learning process and development of these children and young adults.” For more information about Paces visit pacessheffield.org.uk

Sheffield launches Action Plan for Adult Carers THE newly launched Sheffield’s Adult Carers action plan will make sure that people in a caring role continue to get the support they need so that they can care for others. The action plan was conceptualised by carers themselves at an event they held and will support their 60,000 unpaid adult peers across Sheffield. Sheffield City Council works not only with the individual themselves but also a range of related organisations including Sheffield Carers Centre, Sheffield Young Carers, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Health and Social Care Trust and Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group to coordinate the help and support given to the city’s carers. Chris, who cares for his adult daughter who has autism and cerebral palsy explained that it was essential that the process was a genuine collaboration between services and individual carers and that the plan needed to be “open, honest and transparent to make lasting change”. Pauline Kimantas, Chief Executive of Sheffield Carers Centre said “The passion in the room at the event was fantastic and it can be used to move things forward. There’s still so much to do and everybody recognises that. We’ll do our best to ensure people work in partnership.” An important part of the plan is to make sure that carers have “a life of their own” says Emma
Dickinson, the Council’s Commissioning Manager for Carers. Increasing opportunities for these people to look after their own health, have regular and sufficient breaks and to access education and work are important aspects of the Council’s plans.
3. Having a voice for themselves and the person they care for.
“Seventy per cent of them are of working age. The plan places an emphasis on helping them to continue to work – or return to work,” she added.
6. Looking after their own health.
Carers raised concerns about how well institutions work together and what could be done to increase communication and ensure that those they care for, and they themselves, are listened to. There was lots of agreement that many people doing caring roles don’t see themselves as carers, so the action plan must involve ways to reach those people. Many suggestions came from carers about the ways that GPs and others could support carers to access the help that is out there for them. The six principles that underpin the new action plan are: 1. Access at the right time, the right type of information and advice for them, their family and the person they care for.
4. Having regular and sufficient breaks. 5. Continuing to learn and develop, train or work (if they wish to).
7. Councillor Chris Peace, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care at Sheffield City Council said: “The support that professionals provide to carers to help them find the time and space to be healthy, get enough sleep and maintain relationships is essential. I’m pleased that we have an action plan that we can all work to and I look forward to seeing the progress a plan like this can make. “Being a carer is an extremely difficult job, which often affects their own mental and physical health. We want to make sure that their important role is supported so that they can continue to support others.” The Carers Action Plan will be reviewed every six months. The next meeting will be on November 1, where carers and partners will discuss progress.
2. Understanding their rights and having access to an assessment.

have won this by two or three clear tries if key decisions had not gone against them. Hawks let in the first try after dominating the first 10 minutes. They had completed sets, pushed Albion to their line and had absorbed everything that the Keighley team threw at them. A single dropped pass, an unopposed run to the line and Hawks were behind. However, for the remainder of the first half Hawks matched and exceeded Keighley at every turn. Josh Bilton was outstanding at full back and Harry Edgar, Reuben Kateregga and Callan Drewery really stood out for their defensive and offensive performances. Three well worked tries from Will Burns, the excellent Joe Littlewood and Corey Hall, all saw the Sheffield team exert pressure and reap the rewards. However, fine margins hit again and with the last play of the half Keighley scored a soft try through the middle to leave the half time score 16-12. Hawks came out blazing for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Two tries from Will Burns and Pat Wakefield saw clear space between the two teams. However, Keighley (streetwise and league leaders that they are) came storming back with two good tries and two very lucky ones. However, Hawks did not stop and crossed the line three times, each time scoring what seemed to be good tries. The ultimate authority on the pitch did not agree and, despite two of these disallowed tries being completed from 80 metres out against tough defending, nothing seemed to go Hawks way in the last 15 minutes. For the neutral this was an outstanding match of Rugby League. Hawks fear no team in their current league and it is to their immense credit that they have developed so well as a team this season.
TIGERS OFF FOOT OF TABLE SHEFFIELD‘s top four went unbeaten as the reigning Champions dismantled league leaders Berwick 58-32 at Owlerton on Thursday. Lasse Bjerre and Charles Wright were unstoppable, winning nine races between them, while Todd Kurtz and Kyle Howarth also scored paid maximums. Youngster Jack Smith produced one of his more solid performances of the season while Jan Graversen also found a paid win along the way. There are concerns over reserve James Shanes though who crashed heavily in Heat Eight and was withdrawn with a left foot injury. Nevertheless, the win moved Tigers off the foot of the Championship table and it was a reminder to the rest of the league, that there is still plenty of capability within the Sheffield side.
AT the Sandal Beat 10k multi-terrain race in Doncaster, Penistone Footpath Runner James Thompson claimed an impressive win in a time of 35:32 against some good quality runners. This marks the latest stage in Thompson’s comeback from a long-term injury which has kept him out for most of the year. Penistone Footpath Runners sent a team to run the Joe Percy 10k at Kirkburton. The event, which is an inter-club challenge, sees the 10 fastest runners from each club count as a team. After some confusion caused by another club swapping runners at the last minute, PFR were eventually awarded third place overall. The team was Martin Ball, Andrew Heppenstall, Rob Lees, Robin Clough, Damien Briscoe, Dan Limb, Gareth Cooke, Matt Robinson, Shaun Dimelow, Lee Storey, Gary Dean. The Silkstone Shuffle multi-terrain race took place at the weekend. James Thompson followed up his success at the Sandal Beat 10k to take the win. Laura Gill was first lady, Julie Darigala was second lady and Rachael Mayston finished first V40. Other category winners were Alan Knox (V60), Sharon Cooper (F50), Barbara Haigh (F70) and Damian Kilpin (V40). At the Blackamoor Fell Race in Totley, over a distance of just over 4 mile,, Damian Kilpin was the first club member home in a time of 31:57. Julie Darigala was first female back in 39:37 followed by Helen Wright, Brent Lindsay and Sarah Walch. The Three Lakes Classic took place in Rotherham, on a course which measured 15.7 miles, Julie Moxon finished in a time of 2:22.48 in her longest race to date. Paul Fryers competed in the old school classic Tour of Tameside, consisting four races in four days, totalling 32 miles. There were three multi-terrain races (10k, miles miles and a half marathon) and a seven-mile road race. Paul finished 11th out 39 in the V50 category. Two Penistone Footpath runners, Philip Hinchliffe and Robin Clough, successfully took on the challenge of Triathlon X in the Lake District over the weekend. Triathlon X is the world’s toughest Ironman triathlon. The 2.4 mile swim in Lake Windermere was followed by a rain affected 112 mile bike ride which forced some competitors to retire. The bike route takes in all of the steepest road climbs in the Lake District including Hardknott Pass which at 33% is the UK’s steepest pass. The 26 mile run involved scaling the highest peak in England, Scafell Pike. Philip finished a very creditable fourth overall and first V40 in a time of 13 hours 48 minutes. Robin was 37th overall finishing in 15 hours 57 minutes. Of the 111 competitors starting 87 completed the triathlon Heather Lindley completed the Isle of Skye Half Marathon in a time of 2hrs and 53 minutes.

BUSY WEEK FOR BIRDWELL WHEELERS
IT was a very busy week for Birdwell Wheelers with a number of members being involved in a variety of events. Sunday June 10 saw the fourth running of the Birdwell Wheelers Cote de Holme Moss 100km Audax cycle event. It saw 40 riders from as far afield as Suffolk ride the challenging hilly course which took in the demanding climbs of Holme Moss, Snake Pass and Jawbone Hill at Oughtibridge, a total of 2,200 metres of climbing. Six Birdwell Wheelers - Steve Myatt, Dave Hudson, Austin Watson, Tony Lodge, Roger Bacon and Mark Peasegood were part of the group of riders
who set off from Birdwell Community Centre.
Midlands Road Race League) over seven laps at Torworth.
Julian Humphrey of Sheffrec CC was the first rider back in 4hours 20 minutes. One of the highlights of the day was 14 year old Rose Price of Derby Mercury who was the youngest rider to complete the course.
On the third lap a trio of Joe Woodhouse (Birdwell Wheelers), Scott Paterson (Doncaster Wheelers) and Andy Mills (Out of the Saddle CC) opened up a small advantage, but the lead didn’t last and the race came back together and it stayed that way over the closing three laps. Woodhouse finished in the bunch just missing out on a point scoring place.
She was matched by Jim Edwards,78 of Lincoln Wheelers, the oldest rider in the event. The event went well with all riders completing the ride without any incidents. Food and refreshments was enjoyed by all on their return to HQ. Last Thursday Wheeler Joe Woodhouse rode in the NMRRL (North

Saturday saw two Wheelers compete in Time Trials. John Woodhouse rode the Bolsover & District CC 10 Mile Open Time Trial at Cuckney where he finished in a time of 28m 32s.
Paul Heggie rode in the Adept Cycling 25 Mile Open Time Trial at Crathorne and finished in a time of 1h 01m 51s. On Tuesday the club’s second of three 15 mile time trials took place at Thurnscoe, the first having been cancelled due to roadworks on the course. Eight Wheelers took part and fastest on the night was Trevor Mayne in 37m 59s over six minutes ahead of second place Marc Peasegood. Richmond CC 253-2 - Stocksbridge CC 2nd team 190-5 Elliot Freeman 101 not out Bob Newton 41
AT the Oughtibridge War Memorial presentation night, the Sunday side successful season was celebrated with Ross Brown and Callum Chambers winning two awards each. Ross picked up the referees and players player’s award and Callum won the top scorers award and manager’s player of the year. There were also special awards for long time captain James Baker who, at 40 years of age, has decided to call it a day. The club were also presented with their League Championship trophy by MP for Stocksbridge and Penistone Angela Smith.
STOCKSBRIDGE CC’s second team travelled to Davy Sports ground to play Richmond CC with a young team missing a couple of main bowling attack. Stocksbridge won the toss and chose to bowl and Richmond openers batted well and put on a 150 partnership with their captain finishing on 138 not out in a imposing total of 253-2. Stocksbridge’s young team stuck at it with good bowling spells from Rowan Brearley and Chris Thwaites.
Stocksbridge’s reply got off to a quick start with openers Elliot Freeman and Bob Newton putting on 50 in the first ten overs.
A superb innings from Elliot Freeman continued and completed his first century for Stocksbridge CC to the delight of his teammates.
A rain break had a big impact on the result and they continued the chase with Bob Newton making 41 before being dismissed.
The youngster has made great progress in the second team and deserved this innings for his commitment and hard work through his junior cricket. The game could not be completed before the 8pm cut off and Stocksbridge gained vital points in their battle to move away from bottom of the table after last week’s win.
A partnership of 77 between Elliot Freeman and youngster Jack Firth who played well for his 19 and kept Stocksbridge in with a chance of chasing the total down.

BIG CHANGES AT STEELS Back with a bang AS MOXAM SIGNS
STOCKSBRIDGE Rugby began their pre-season training last week with an encouraging turnout of 26 players. A mixture of young, old, current, new and returning players were put through their paces by the senior coaching team, Keenan and Tyers. STEELS manager Chris Hilton has signed Pontefract Collieries striker Aaron Moxam. Moxam (pictured) scored 39 goals last season for his two clubs Handsworth Parramore and Pontefract. A proven goalscorer, Moxam was the Toolstation Northern Counties East League top scorer in the 2016/17 season.
Hilton, speaking to the club’s website, was clearly delighted to have signed the striker beating off competition from other Evo-Stik leagues teams Moxam has also represented neighbours Sheffield FC and Hallam FC. He is set to make his Steels debut against Sheffield United on July 7.
“The boys seemed keen and up for it, said Tyers, “the numbers were great and the attitude spot on, this is the standard we will expect from this group.
Goalkeeper David Reay and centre half Matt Reay have both joined NCEL outfit Worksop Town. Joe Lumsden and Brodie Litchfield, along with left back George Grayson, have also left the club.
The Friday session featured RFU Coach Andrew Appleyard and the whole squad benefitted

from his experiences and delivery. “It’s good to hear a different voice from time to time, said Tyers. “It makes a nice change from mine and Keeno’s growling. Pre-season continues at Coal Pit Lane on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6.30pm, all are welcome. The ambitious Stocksbridge club have now announced their club partners for the forthcoming 2018/2019 season with Bradfield Brewery retaining the title sponsor. Other shirt sponsors include Globe Holidays,
JMB Tree Services, S&D Goodlad, Fox Catering, Funding Solutions, Loxley Brewery, EJ Lidster & Sons, with local travel agents Xpert Travel amongst other generous supporters. The club remain grateful for the commitment and generosity shown by all of our partner businesses, who will this year be included in the club’s new business network where members are encouraged to support other members by using their services or products. In this way there will be some return for the investments.
