The Paramount, on Shrewsbury Road, is a community entertainment centre enjoyed by local residents that shows new releases and live theatre.
The extended lease will secure the historic building’s future and allow the town council to apply for external funding and investments, helping them to continue running their current projects and services.
The 348 seat venue celebrated its 100th year in 2014 and is host to many commercial and community projects. As a popular meeting place, the venue helps tackle loneliness, by giving residents an accessible place to go and talk.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “The extended lease on Penistone Paramount shows our commitment to local venues that provide entertainment and support for our residents.
“This fantastic building is at the heart of the Penistone community and will continue to be so for the next 25 years. I urge anyone living in the area to visit the Paramount and support the fantastic work they are doing to help keep Barnsley a vibrant and welcoming place.”
