Joe awarded Freedom of Town
JOE Pinguey is to be given Freedom of the Town due to his services to Penistone and he has recently celebrated the fact that local shoppers have voted a cause he put forward as one to support.
Mr Pinguey is raising funds for an RAF Centenary Bench project with the aid of the Tesco Bags of Help in the Penistone store.
The scheme received the most votes out of the three projects between the beginning of January and the end of February.
The funds are secure and work will start on the sculpture bench with Steve Tarr of SJ Logging, who only use a chainsaw.
The bench, when complete, will be located and dedicated in the grounds of Penistone Grammar School in the area of their own war memorial.
Joe has been involved in various military events and anniversaries since 2010, involving Penistone and local communities. He says the Freedom of the Won award came as a great surprise.
