The gala weekend is packed with events for all the family including Comedy in a Tent, Jack & Paul’s Fun Run, Penistone Rocks! And Mayor’s Parade and Gala.
For over 20 years, volunteers from Penistone Round Table, Penistone Scouts, Penistone Ladies Circle, Penistone Town Council and other local organisations and individuals have organized Penistone Mayor’s Parade and Gala Weekend.
Each year it grows in size, popularity and as a spectacle, with people travelling from Barnsley, Huddersfield and across Yorkshire to join the celebrations.
It is tradition that the Mayor of Penistone chooses the theme for the gala. Previous themes have included ‘The Magic of Musicals’, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Roald Dahl’. This year prepare to be charmed by our magical theme of ‘Fairytales’.
Penistone Gala is not for profit, so any surplus from the weekend is put back into community projects and fund the future of the gala. So, in buying a ticket to one of our events you are helping to support your local community as well as having a fab day or night out!.
Each of the main volunteer organising groups (Penistone Roundtable, Penistone Scouts, Penistone Ladies Circle and Penistone Mayor’s Charity Fund) receive a donation from the gala, that they in turn pass on to good causes.
Donations from the 2018 gala are supporting projects such as a community lunch for elderly and vulnerable people, Springvale Community Garden, the Dementia Café at St John’s Church, Penistone Leisure Centre, buying new tents for the Scouts, supporting a local brass band to play and raise spirits at community events and much more. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and give us a ‘like’ for updates on our donations.
Penistone Gala Weekend is organised and run entirely by local volunteers – who give their time and energy quite simply for the love of their town and community.

The 2km fun run takes place starting at Penistone Gala Marquee reception on Saturday June 8.
It begins at 10.45am and costs £6.50. You can book your place on the Gala website. All money goes to Heads Together (Barnsley) - a charity set up in memory of Jack & Paul Sykes, which raises money for local families who have suffered a serious loss or trauma.
