Shuffle success for Sam Shaw and Gareth Cooke
PENISTONE Footpath Runners Sam Shaw and Gareth Cooke took the top honours at the challenging Silkstone Shuffle trail race.
Cooke was first man back in a time of 28-03 and fast improving Shaw was first lady back in 33-19.
There were age group wins for Tony Wright (first over-50 man in 31-16), Barbara Haigh (first over-70 woman in 48-04) and Bill Phillips (first over-70 man in 37-34). Earlier in the week a large contingent of Penistone runners competed in the Outibridge Chase which is a trail race around Wharncliffe Woods via the super steep Jawbone Hill.
Shaw and Cooke again had success with Cooke finishing first man in a close run finish. Shaw was second lady back behind international runner Nicola Squires.
Cooke clocked 21-50 whilst Shaw got round in 26-33. Penistone age group winners were Steve Storey (first over-60 man in 27-53) and Sue Charlesworth (first over-50 woman in 33-20. Penistone fared well in the Outibridge junior races with Hugh Mackie winning the boys event closely followed by John Halstead (fifth) and James Fryers (ninth).

Baslow Boot Bash fell race, 27 miles: 24, Harriet Droulin 5-45-00.
James Blakeley Fell Race, 3.1 miles, 180 metres of ascent: 3, Hugh Mackie 22-46; 23, Pete Stanley 32-15.
Owston Ferry 10k: 148, David Needham 56- 59. (third over-70 man).
