Attempted robbery at Thurgoland Post Office

TWO men armed with a knife attempted a raid on Thurgoland Post Office on Saturday afternoon.

The postmistress and her husband were in the premises on Roper Lane when two men entered and attempted the robbery at around 4.15pm.

The staff were unharmed despite having a knife brandished in their faces. Police and crime scene investigators attended the scene soon after.

Witnesses have reported seeing two men acting suspiciously just before the incident and posted their accounts on Facebook.

One read: “Just witnessed two lads in black tracksuits, old scruffy looking clothes, with black hats on in Thurgoland sat on the wall outside the Post Office.

“Next thing, while I am driving past, they put balaclavas over their faces and went down the side of the Post Office towards the side door.

“As I was working, I didn’t have time to stop but other people were there assisting. Please share and let people know. They were driving a silver Peugeot 208! Aged about middle 20s.”

Someone else said: “I saw them hanging about near the Post Office and immediately thought to myself, they look dodgy! Never seen them before.

“Ten minutes or so later, my son came home to tell me two lads had just attempted robbing the Post Office. I recall seeing the silver Peugeot too.”
