Butcher to close Manchester Road deli shop

OWNERS CITE FALLING SALES FIGURES AS REASON FOR CLOSING

JOHN Crawshaw Butchers have announced that the deli shop on Manchester Road is to close at the end of this month.

The popular local chain has already closed the adjacent shop on Manchester Road and have opened at a new location at Fox Valley.

However, the deli shop will now also close on August 31, leaving just the Fox Valley store in Stocksbridge. They also have shops in Chapeltown and at The Barracks in Hillsborough.

In a statement to customers, John Crawshaw has cited falling sales figures as the reason for the closure.

The statement reads: “We would like to thank you for your loyalty and custom to John Crawshaw’s over the years.

“It is with deep regret and sadness that the deli shop will cease trading on Saturday August 31.

“This is due to falling sales figures over a prolonged period of time. You may be aware of the extremely trying times in retail sales, and falling customer numbers in Stocksbridge and many high streets.

“Despite these difficulties, we have tried to maintain business in the shop for both customers and staff. Unfortunately, we can no longer continue trading at a loss.

“Our store in Fox Valley will be selling the usual full range of cooked products, in addition to this we are having a unit sited outside the shop producing a range of cooked sandwiches and snacks, providing employment opportunities for our present staff.”
