ed brightly against a quick and youthful Newcastle, and after only three minutes a cracking move ended with Scott Ruthven missing a glorious chance. Playing on one of the best looking pitches in the division, there was some smooth passing football played by both sides. Ruthven had two further chances and Kane Swinburn had shots just off target, which proved to be costly as on 38 minutes James Askey ran 50 yards unchallenged to pass to Jordan Cole to slam home for Newcastle. The second half started brightly and on 49 minutes Ruthven made amends for his earlier misses, slotting home the equaliser.
Swinburn was replaced on 60 minutes by Clarke Greaves and just after Josh Nodder pulled up and was replaced by Lee Thompson. Then, on 68 minutes, Luke Manghan was brought down in the box, and duly smashed home the penalty for his 10th goal of the season. This put pressure on the Steels defence as Newcastle pressed for a way back into the game but Ludlam, McFadyen and Foulkes stood firm to keep Steels in control and the game was finally finished off with an outstanding goal from Clarke Greaves. Taking the ball from an attacking forward in his own half, he went past one player after another to fire home a stunner.
