BARELY a week after it was broken by Gareth Cooke at the Brass Monkey Half Marathon, Gary Briscoe broke the Penistone senior male club record for the half marathon distance. Gary’s time of 1-10-11 also gave him his first race win on a foggy and icy Sunday morning at the Inskip half in Lancashire. Also in Lancashire, Julia Johnson competed in the Mast 10k in Bolton. Julia had a great
race and was third lady back in a time of 5022. Some of Penistone’s younger athletes competed in the Sheffield Open Cross Country event. Graihagh Turner was fifth in the under-11 girls category in a time of 6-27. Jenson Sykes was 16th in the under-11 boys race in 14-07. In the same race Flynn Rogers had an outstanding run to gain third place in a time of 11-22.
On the fells Bernice Nixon claimed another first place in the women’s over-60 category at the Lamb’s Longer fell race in Hayfield. Results: Mast Race 10K // 19 Jan. Ranking: 27, Julia Johnson 50-22.
