Sometime between 2-6.30pm on Friday 24 January, persons unknown are said to have broken into the victim’s home on Chapel Road, Sheffield.
The offenders are said to have gained entry via the back of the house, while the victim was out visiting an extremely poorly relative.
Detective Constable Dean Craik, investigating, said: “The victim has been left devastated and in a total state of shock following this incident.
“What’s even more distressing is that the victim had been to see a relative, who was extremely poorly in hospital. After a really difficult and emotional afternoon, she came home to find her jewellery had been ransacked.
“Her engagement ring, given to her by her husband at the age of 19, was taken and has rarely been off her finger for over 60-years.
“These items are understandably of huge sentimental value to the woman and I’m asking anyone with information to come forward.
“I’d also like to appeal to any shop owner or worker who has been approached with items that match those pictured to contact us straight away so we can hopefully reunite this woman with her jewellery.”
Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 751 of 24 January 2020.
