COVID-19 ADVICE FROM MP AND POLICE COVID-19 may have hit hard globally but the fantastic spirit already in the community has remained with help being offered on social media. Facebook groups, such as Community Action Penistone and the newly-formed Stocksbridge and Deepcar Kindness in the Community Group, have people willing to help elderly or at risk residents or those who are self isolating.

“I’ve created some Coronavirus information pages on my website to share the most current information - including how to get financial help - and I will be publishing regular updates. www.miriamcates. org.uk/coronavirus “The advice from today is as follows: If you notice symptoms of the virus, (high temperature, new persistent cough) and you live alone you must self-isolate for 7 days.

MP for Stocksbridge and Penistone Miriam Cates commented on the situation and offered advice: “I know there is a lot of concern about Coronavirus and how it will impact our health, economy and daily lives.

“If you live with others - you, and everyone you live with, must selfisolate for 14 days AND anyone infected should not leave self-isolation until they have no symptoms and have been in isolation for seven full days. Everyone should:

“The Chief Medical Officer and his team are constantly monitoring the situation and today, the Government announced that the disease has progressed and it is now the right time to introduce new and more restrictive measures. These measures outline what we need to do to protect the most vulnerable people in our community and minimise the impact of Coronavirus.

* work from home - if at all possible * stop all unnecessary travel * avoid unnecessary social contact - that means avoiding pubs, clubs, theatres and mass gatherings * be vigilant with personal hygiene and wash hands regularly.

*only use NHS services if really necessary “And for those who are over 70, pregnant or who have underlying health conditions, please stay at home if you possibly can. “The situation will be monitored by the scientists and experts hourby-hour and further advice will be provided as it arises. “These measures will have an impact on our day-to-day lives, but to be effective, we must take this advice seriously and do our absolute best to follow it. Following the advice will save lives.” Police have warned of fraudsters exploiting the spread of COVID19 Corona virus to facilitate various types of fraud and cybercrime. Since February 2020, the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has identified 21 reports of fraud where Corona virus was mentioned, with victim losses totalling over £800k. Ten of these reports were made by victims that attempted to purchase

protective face masks from fraudulent sellers. Reporting numbers are expected to rise as the virus continues to spread across the world. Fraudsters are also sending out Corona virus-themed phishing emails in an attempt to trick people into opening malicious attachments or revealing sensitive personal and financial details. Some other examples of tactics identified from victim reports: Fraudsters purporting to be from research organisations affiliated with the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) make contact with potential victims by email. They claim to be able to provide the recipient with a list of Corona virus infected people in their area. In order to access this information, the victim needs to click on a link, which leads to a malicious website, or is asked to make a payment in Bitcoin. Watch out for scam messages:

99%

Do not click on the links or attachments in suspicious emails, and never respond to unsolicited messages and calls that ask for your personal or financial details. Shopping online: If you are making a purchase from a company or person you do not know and trust, carry out some research first, and ask a friend or family member for advice before completing the purchase. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, use a credit card if you have one, as most major credit card providers insure online purchases. SHEFFIELD City Council is pleased to announce that every library across the city is set to receive an additional one off cash boost of £10,000. The windfall means that each library, including volunteer-run libraries, will have extra money to spend on what will best meet the needs of their space and to do more for the communities who use them. Cabinet member for Culture, Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council Mary Lea, said: “I understand the valuable role libraries play within our communities so we’re thrilled that we can provide extra funding to help every library in Sheffield. It means each library will have the opportunity to

make the changes they need to improve their offer to the local community.” The funding bonus comes as Sheffield City Council confirms that the grant funding for voluntary libraries is set to continue. Julie Marshall, a volunteer at Ecclesfield Community Library said: “We are thrilled that Ecclesfield community library will receive an extra £10,000. As a volunteer service we rely on the good will, commitment and dedication of our workers and we welcome this additional funding. “We will be speaking to our library members and volunteers to help us identify what spend will benefit our

It is going to make a real difference to the library and to the wider community.” The money will be available to libraries in Sheffield with immediate effect.

VALLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL MAKING A DIFFERENCE

had received tuition grants at a time when schools struggled to find music funding showed what the festival was all about. “We showcase the talent across the community, involving people of all ages, and promising young musicians benefit from the money raised,” she said. Gao Roberts’ father, Martin, from Oughtibridge, said his son was making “rapid, amazing progress” with his piano lessons. Gao had started playing the guitar but was now devoted to the piano, enjoying classical pieces.

YOUNG people who have reaped the rewards of the Valley Music Festival gathered last Friday at Ponti’s Italian Kitchen in Fox Valley to celebrate their progress. The festival is preparing for its third big annual event in the summer to raise more funds to help young people foster their musical talent and to support local schools. More than 350 performers took part in last year’s festival which attracted approaching 1,000 people to the Fox Valley shop-

ping centre and Stocksbridge High School over two days. The festival’s success meant that four promising young people received scholarship awards to further their musical development. Money raised at the festival was boosted by a donation from the Dransfield Foundation - the charitable offshoot of Dransfield Properties, owner of Fox Valley. Grants totalling £2,200 were made. Five local schools benefited.

The four young people who received grants were pianist Gao Roberts, aged 10 and of Oughtibridge Primary School; Flynn Rogers, who is 10, plays trumpet and attends Stocksbridge Juniors; 13-year-old singer Grace Hanson of Stocksbridge High School and Frances Holmes, also a singer, aged 15 and studying at Stocksbridge High School. Festival director Hilary Osborn told the Ponti’s gathering that the progress and growing confidence of the youngsters who

He commented: “I started learning the piano with Gao but gave up - I retained 5% of what was taught while Gao retained 95%. It is great that the festival encourages youngsters to develop their musical talent in this way.” Frances Holmes said her lessons had been a huge confidence booster and she now had an ambition to become a musical theatre teacher. Her mum, Lesley, of Stocksbridge said: “I’ve seen such an amazing change in Frances. She is a different person.”

Sally Rogers, of Bolsterstone, said her grandson Flynn, who had been inspired to take up the trumpet by Sheffield Wednesdays’s Kop Band and the Disney Band, had passed his grade one exam with distinction. “It is so good that Flynn has been having one-to-one lessons.” Grace Hanson’s mum, Hayley, of Deepcar, said her daughter had never had music lessons at school before receiving the grant. “I’ve made a lot of progress”, said Grace. Cailean Simpson, aged 10, of the No Identity singing group, showed the gathering the Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir Raymond English Trophy which the group had won at last year’s festival for being the most promising young performers. All four of the talented youngsters who received grant awards will be taking part in this summer’s festival in June which will be bigger and better with new events, including a Sheffield Music Academy concert, a Solo Singers Concert and a Battle of the Bands competition with the Big Festival Weekend taking place in Fox Valley

on Saturday June 13 and Sunday June 14, hosted by much-loved Sheffield performer Shaun Doane, and other events at Stocksbridge High School. Bradfield School was among the five local schools receiving grants. They bought a set of 40 ukuleles. And Deepcar St John C of E Junior School used their grant to visit the Royal Opera House in London recently to see the modern opera Alice’s Adventures in the Underground. They were so inspired that they made a video featuring their artwork and singing which was shown at the Ponti’s get-together. Ponti’s will be the venue for a festival gala dinner on Friday June 12 when young professional musicians from the area “come home” to perform. The restaurant is giving a donation to this year’s festival, meaning that three more scholarships will be awarded. The festival is presented by Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir and Inyerface Arts in partnership with the Fox Valley Food and Drink Festival.

It’s puppy love for dog-mad Deepcar couple DOG lovers Jean and John Holroyd from Deepcar were certain they would never have another dog after the sudden death a of their much-loved Labradoodle. But that was before they saw an advert in Look Local from charity Support Dogs asking for local people to volunteer as puppy socialisers. Support Dogs, a national charity based in Brightside, trains dogs for people with epilepsy, autism and physical disability, and recently expanded its programme to include puppies, to meet rising demand for its services. But it now needs more dog-loving people to look after the pups before they start their formal training at the age of 15 months. “When we saw the ad, we talked about it a lot - should we, shouldn’t we,” says Jean, aged 66, who worked on the reception at Hillsborough Leisure centre for more than 20 years. “We had two dogs before, an ex-rescue bearded collie called Lyle that we had for 15 years and a Labradoodle who we’d had from the eight weeks old, called Dobby, who died suddenly of a rare condition aged just five in 2016 which was devastating. “We couldn’t have a dog again, but we’d always enjoyed the training side of having a dog.” What made the Holroyds finally make their decision was seeing Support Dogs’ epilepsy client Brogan Evans and her sei-

What’s going on in Bolsterstone? YOU are invited to Bolsterstone Community Group’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday March 31 at 7pm in Bolsterstone Village Hall, when you’ll be able to find out some more about what’s happening in and around Bolsterstone. Lots of people come to walk, cycle and generally enjoy the countryside around Bolsterstone and although the village itself covers only a small area, there are many groups involved in making it very lively for all those people who enjoy visiting. One of Bolsterstone Community Group’s original aims is to improve the wellbeing of people in and around Bolsterstone and to this

end, at the AGM, we will be hearing from Dr Adrain Scott, an active member of the community group committee, who is renowned across Britain and internationally for his expertise in his specialist area of diabetes. His short talk, ‘Diabetes two - the preventable epidemic’ couldn’t be more timely! There will also be an update about the Bolsterstone Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and lots more. There will be a chance for everyone to “air their views” about anything connected with Bolsterstone and the surrounding area. Refreshments will be served and the group looks seeing you there.

zure alert dog Wadsley talking about the difference he made to her life on BBC’s The One Show. “We’re both retired, and we wanted to put something back, it wasn’t that we just wanted a dog,” adds John, 67, an ex selfemployed builder and joiner. “We wanted to have a dog but also to have a purpose in life.” Adds Jean: “We were a bit worried about how we’d feel when we had to let her go, but then we thought – she’s not our dog and we have only got her for a limited time. The big factor was that we wanted to help other people.” Jean and John were teamed up with adorable yellow Labrador Dawnay and after the first six weeks of inevitably lively puppy behaviour, she has now calmed down and is providing lovely canine company. “She was hard work and it was very tiring for the first six weeks, and we had to watch that she didn’t rip things to shreds,” says Jean. “I think we are over the worst bit now – the constant up and downs and always being on the go. “She is a very loving dog, and she loves children. We have two grandchildren, Evie, aged seven, and Isla who’s two and a half, and they love snuggling up on her bean bag chair with her.” Jean and John take Dawnay to puppy classes once a week at Support Dogs’ training centre, and the charity’s puppy co-ordinator Natalie Wroe visits once a fortnight to

do some training and to check Dawnay’s progress. Now that the pup has had all her jabs the Holroyds are planning to introduce her to their favourite walks such as Greno Woods and taking her further afield in their touring caravan to the Yorkshire coast and North Wales. Then when she is 15 months old Dawnay will leave the Holroyds and start her fulltime training to become a professional assistance dog. “We’re loving being puppy socialisers – it’s ideal for people who can’t commit to owning a dog, but love having them around, and who want to help other people,” says Jean. “We’d highly recommend it.” Danny Anderson, fundraising manager at Support Dogs says: “We’re really grateful to John and Jean, and we urgently need more people like them to help change lives and look after our tiny superheroes. “As a puppy socialiser you will play a vital role in our puppies’ formative years, caring for a puppy in your home and providing them with the socialisation and training they will need. “If you live in or within an hour drive of Sheffield and might be interested, we’d love to hear from you.” Support Dogs can be contacted on info@ supportdogs.org.uk or on 0114 2617800.

It’s not too late to make a Will... Hello, I’m Jane Bowland, your local Estate Planning Consultant of 13 years experience. I am an expert in helping people arrange their Wills, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Pre-paid Funeral Plans. Along with my colleague Haworth Ward-Drummond we specialise in helping all kinds of people gain peace of mind by providing professional advice, but with a personal touch. We offer a FREE consultation without obligation for anybody who would like to know more about any of the following:

• Making a basic Will • Setting up Lasting Powers of Attorney • Protecting your home for future generations • Pre-paid Funeral Plans We know that planning for the future is a very personal matter. Not everyone is able or wants to travel to an appointment in town to sort out their affairs. We can visit you at a convenient time in the privacy and comfort of your own home to discuss your unique circumstances.

A visit and consultation is completely free and you are under no obligation to do anything. If you decide to make any arrangements you can be safe in the knowledge that all our professional services and work are fully insured and we are members of the Society of Will Writers, so all our clients are assured of the

highest standards of conduct at all times. All our clients (and their families) that we have helped in the past have been very happy with our services and tell us they have gained great peace of mind knowing that they have sorted everything out.

Jane came to see my parents to help them protect the family home. She really made us all feel at ease, especially my parents. We had no idea what we could do to protect Mum and Dad. Having set up trusts and Lasting Power of Attorney’s, Mum and Dad can get on with their lives without worrying, knowing everything is now in place. Thank you Jane! Mrs Boyle and family, Ecclesfield

TALKING about death, grief and bereavement is not something we do easily as a society, with one Sheffield GP even referring to the subject as “the last taboo”. However, when individuals lose loved ones, close friends or pets, there can be life changing consequences. According to research, grief is a major contributing factor to loneliness, isolation, and it can deepen depression. In response to this, Stocksbridge Community Care Group has started up a bereavement listening and signposting service.

As well as listening, the helpline holds details on a host of relevant organisations it can signpost onto, including counselling, support groups and those dealing with the practical side of bereavement such as funeral arrangements and house clearances. The helpline has also decided to support families or individuals with a terminal or life limiting illness in order to start the support as soon as possible. Project Co-ordinator Samantha Devine said: “We are first and foremost a listening service, but even just by that we hope to bring some relief. “Many people face very difficult situations they have never experienced

before by themselves, not being sure who to talk to or how to raise the subject with family or friends. “We will also listen no matter how long ago a loss was, people can carry grief in a very lonely place for a long time. “We can’t change anything sadly, but we will listen and put them in touch with help and support if that will help in any way.” The Stocksbridge Community Care Group secured Lottery Community Fund for the project until 2023. The helpline can be contacted on 0114 288 6989.

Sword Dancers win silver in inaugural competition SWORD dancers from Grenoside Community Primary School walked away with silver this weekend after taking part in their first sword dancing competition. The Junior Longsword Dance competition held at The Hut, in Goathland, North Yorkshire attracted primary school teams from around the Yorkshire region including Goathland, Flamborough and Fylingdales. Sheffield had two schools taking part in the competition; Grenoside Community Primary School and Byron Wood Academy, the latter entering two teams – waving the Sheffield flag for sword dancing. Sheffield has a rich and successful history of sword dancing, with Grenoside and Handsworth sword teams being two of five traditional teams who can trace their history back over two hundred years. Each year dancers from both villages still perform their dance in the vil-

lage where it was created. The other traditional teams are Goathland and Flamborough in Yorkshire and Papa Stour, one of the Shetland Islands in Scotland. Longsword dancing is a tradition mainly from Yorkshire, with dancers using metal swords or wooden lats. Classed as a hilt and tip dance, performers weave intricate patterns in an unbroken circle. There are records of over a hundred villages in the old West Riding region which had their own dance, with many revival teams today performing some of these dances and keeping them alive. Steve Mettam, team member and one of the instructors said: “The Grenoside team were asked by the school to give a talk two and a half years ago about the history of the dance and then asked if we could teach interested pupils the dance. This turned into the formation of the team.” “It’s great that these children want to

learn and perform the dance and help keep the tradition alive. They should be immensely proud of their achievement, as myself and the other instructors are, after all the hard work they have put in. We would also like to thank the parents and school for all of their continued support and also for Grenoside Reading Rooms who sold cakes, soups and refreshments to help towards the cost of the coach to get us to the competition!” This wasn’t the first time Grenoside Junior Sword Dancers have performed in public. The children have performed with Grenoside on the last two Boxing Days, their traditional day to perform the dance, outside the Old Harrow pub on Main Street. They have also performed at the village’s Summer Gala.

How to cure such behaviour apart from education in schools? Well, apart from a police or PCSO presence on our streets, talking to people (a word in your ear guv), how about reintroducing the concept of shame and humiliation, seemingly long forgotten. To go with that, bring back the stocks to Stocksbridge, and for repeat offenders, visible community service, with an appropriately labelled tabard, repairing their damage or some community improvement project. Rant over, please let us have some respect for our communities and each other.

As East Ecclesfield Branch Chair for 17 years, and many more years in the Labour Party (including as Branch Secretary, when the ward was named Chapel Green), she is simply irreplaceable to Ecclesfield and has almost single-handedly kept things afloat, in often choppy political waters.

At present I still intend to run my monthly surgeries at the High Green Miners Welfare Hall and Grenoside on the first and second Saturday of the month respectively but will review this in accordance with any future advice received from Public Health England and I will ensure any changes are well publicised.

Council Leader Julie Dore also remarked that Alison was a great personal help to her when first becoming a councillor, as she has been to so many other new councillors or candidates.

Cllr Adam Hurst (Labour, West Ecclesfield)

I personally have a great deal to thank Alison for and will miss her counsel and advice, and on behalf of everyone part of Ecclesfield Labour Party – thank you Alison.

After six days, one is almost entirely deeply rutted, a second not far behind in being trashed. Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday) April 9 2020 Unfortunately there are a goodly number of seriously damaged stretches of verge in this vicinity, and those estates nearby. New Year, same old! I am so disappointed. A few days ago, at time of writing, Amey/SCC replaced lost soil, repaired and reseeded three sections of grass verge, long lost as such, at the top of Webb Avenue on the Ideal Homes Saints Estate in Deepcar.

On Maundy Thursday the ‘Easter Cross’ will once more be lit high on Hunshelf, to shine over the valleys during Easter Week.

This is really disgraceful and nothing short of vandalism of community assets. Please stop driving on, over and parking on our grass verges which were installed as visual enhancement for the community to enjoy.

Churches Together in Stocksbridge and District express their gratitude once again for faithful supporters: Mr Greg Godley and family who allow use of the land and enable maintenance of the cross, father and son John and Wayne Hirst of St Ann’s Church who ensure all lights will function and Liberty Steel (Mr Russell Jackson) for their free provision of electricity. Without this generous co-operation the tradition could not continue.

Such antisocial behaviour is disrespectful to the community, and to those whose frontages are thus being damaged. If you have a problem with parking on the road near your destination or home, it cannot be too far to travel to find alternative parking slots. On the other hand, if you have too many cars to fit on your drive, consider using some of your own garden as parking area, rather than damage community property, some people have done this, and there are many people protecting stretches of verge from illicit parking, I thank those and the others who tend stretches of verge.

As usual, after a service in Green Moor Chapel, people from all churches in the area will walk to the cross as it is lit on Thursday evening to bear witness and to give thanks.

Other examples of antisocial behaviour include the dog foulers and litter mongers. For heavens sake, pick it up and take it home with you. And, please, if

Clues in black cells remove that number as an option in that row and column, and are not part of any straight. Glance at the solution to see how ‘straights’ are formed.

Mon - Fri 8.30 am - 5.00pm Sat 8.30 am - 12.00 noon WAR MEMORIAL LADIES WIN Oughtibridge WM Ladies 3 Rise Park Ladies 0 DESPITE both teams having players unavailable in self isolation it was Oughtibridge who made the most of the FA’s reprieve of grass roots football to make it back to back home wins and move back into the top half of the East Midlands Premier League with games in hand on those above them. Both sides came close in the first half with the home team always looking the more dangerous and they finally broke the deadlock shortly before the break, Sam Woodham quickly closing down a back four guilty of overplaying to set up Laura Cain for a smart finish. The second half was much of the same, Rise Park playing on the break but the game was out of their reach with Cain guiding home her second after a good cross field move on 59 minutes. A shut out was achieved due to some stout defending from the Towns’ twins, Dionne Lawton and skipper Kathryn Mudge and the result was wrapped up as Cain completed her hat-trick with a neat left foot volley from a partially cleared corner. This week sees Oughtibridge travel to Ollerton on Thursday evening (8pm) followed by an away trip to Rise Park next Sunday, both games likely to be subject to further FA consideration of whether to suspend games at lower levels.

Julie wins at Lads Leap

Must have flexibility to cover for colleagues holidays and sickness which can be 8.15am starts or 6.30pm finishes (could be up to full time) £8.85 per hour (reviewed annually) NHS pension We are a very friendly, supportive practice. This is a new post which involves accurate data input, contact with patients (face to face and on the telephone) and excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of NHS primary care an advantage. IT skills essential. We require a confident, methodical and skilled administrator/ receptionist with the ability to prioritise. Applications via NHS JOBS (ref J180-A-20-375672). To arrange an informal visit or for more information please ring 0114 2327465. Employees and their close relatives cannot be patients at the practice

Sam Shaw was second lady overall in 33-21 on a very muddy course on the trails around Silkstone. Road runner Andrew Heppenstall donned a pair of trail shoes to put in an impressive performance to finish second overall in 29-37.

There were also age group wins for Barbara Haigh (ladies over-70), Damian Kilpin (men Foxhill Medical Centre over-40) and Bill Phillips (men over-70). The 160 Fox Hill Crescent Sheffield S6 1GA junior race was won by Penistone’s John HalDESPITE many events being cancelled due stead in 10-15, clubmate Ewan Mackie was to COVID-19, Penistone runners were still third in 11-09. The winner of the girls junior very active over the weekend and enjoyed a race, Graihagh Turner, also from Penistone completed the course in 12-00. good deal of success.

Closing Date – 30 March 2020

Julie Darigala competed in the Lads Leap fell race which takes place on the fells above Crowden and was triumphant as winner of the ladies race. Julie completed the 10 kilometre race in just over an hour in 61-46. Hugh Mackie also competed and a bagged a top 10 place by coming eighth in 57-20. Bernice Nixon also had a strong run to pick a win the ladies over60 age category.

The second championship race of the weekend was the 10 mile Thirsk road race held at the racecourse. The flat course is conducive to fast times and though it was quite windy many of the Penistone runners taking part set personal bests for the distance. First back was Gareth Cooke with an impressive seventh place in a high quality field. Gareth’s time of 53-19 was a new personal best and a club record.

Next back for Penistone was over-45 man There were two club championship races over Martin Ball who’s time of 61-43 gained him the weekend starting with the Silkstone Shuf- a gold standard for the distance. Third back fle trail race on Saturday. was Robin Clough who broke the men’s over50 club record for the distance in 64-35.

Sam Shaw followed up her impressive Silkstone Shuffle performance with second place in the ladies over-35 category in a time of 6738. Bill Phillips broke the men’s over-70 club record in a time of 74-39. For Bill there was some disappointment though, despite winning his age category on the day based on ‘chip time’ by one second he was actually relegated to second place due to the other runner having a faster ‘gun’ time. In West Yorkshire Gary Briscoe put in a fine performance to finish in second place at the Spenborough 20 mile race. Despite the undulating nature of the course Gary’s time was a very quick 1-54-16. Charlie Skipper travelled to Stafford to take part in the Stafford half marathon. Charlie came away with an excellent time of 1-21-24. Hugh Mackie was 183rd out of 331 runners in the Intermediate boys race at the English Schools cross country at Sefton Park, Liverpool. Nichola McNally claimed third lady overall and first in the ladies over-50 category at the Dalton Dash 10k. Nichola’s time was a very impressive 41-57. Dave Napier competed in the Oundle 20 mile race, finishing in 2-3701.

BUMPER CROWD WATCH STEELS DRAW

STOCKBRIDGE PSFC 1 CLEETHORPES TOWN FC 1

FOLLOWING on from Stocksbridge Park Steels’ 0-0 draw with fourth-placed Belper FC on Tuesday, Steels entertained third-place Cleethorpes at the Look Local Stadium last Saturday. With all other games cancelled due to the coronavirus, a crowd of nearly 400 turned up to watch – the largest football crowd in Yorkshire it is thought. The game started at a fast pace and Steels had to be alert in defence, however they were playing some good football of their own and took the lead when Josh Nodder got the ball on the edge of the box and volleyed in off the keepers right hand post. This put Steels on the front foot and only a great block on the opposition line prevented Ruthven making it 2-0. Stocksbridge created several chances in the first half and you hoped only having a 1-0 lead at the break would not come back to haunt them. Cleethorpes came out all guns blazing in the second half but the Steels defence are made of strong stuff this season and repelled the attacks until the hour mark when

a poor clearance was punished by the Cleethorpes front line. Chances came for both sides in the last half an hour and it looked like substitute Johhny Pugh had won the game for Steels after a mazy run but his shot grazed the post and side netting. This was a good point for Stocksbridge and although they dropped a place to sixth they are still very much in the hunt for a play off place. This Saturday, they should be at home against Carlton FC who leapfrogged them on Saturday. Obviously this is dependant on what the Northern Premier league decides to do with the fixtures this week. Chairman Graham Furness would like to thank all who turned up on Saturday and made it should a good atmosphere. Hopefully the performance will encourage you to come again in the future. Steels’ reserve side booked a second semi final spot when they beat Jubilee FC in the Brian Bradley Cup. They are also in the semi final of the County FA Association cup.
