THE Government has announced that Stocksbridge is receiving an additional £500,000 to promote regeneration and economic development as part of the Towns Fund programme.

This investment comes in advance of the up to £25 million of funding that will be awarded to the town once full plans have been submitted to the Government. Commenting on the announcement, local MP and Chair of the Stocksbridge Towns Fund Board, Miriam Cates, said: “This is a fantastic boost for Stocksbridge, and will make a big difference in helping us to realise our exciting plans for the town. It is testament to the work of the Leisure Centre Board and their team. “We are currently finalising our overall vision for Stocksbridge, and will be sharing this with local residents before we submit it

to the Government for funding approval. “This additional money is proof that we are committed to delivering on our promise to level up the North and deliver new opportunities to local communities.” The new £500,000 will be spent on improvements including an outdoor seating and toddler play area for Oxley Park, linked with the SCLC café; inclusive outdoor infrastructure including access routes and landscaping, in addition to bike and car parking provision to ensure access for all. This is further good news for the leisure centre which has recently re-opened with much-improved facilities costing £1,000,000. The new extension and main entrance are complete, along with the new café, which following a public poll on Facebook has been named Café Oxley.

Property and investment company acquires Ecclesfield shopping parade

St Luke’s Chapeltown and Hillsborough shops set to re-launch THE re-launch of the St Luke’s Hospice chain of shops continues in October with the opening of two more of its most popular stores. The charity’s Chapeltown shop will welcome customers back on October 12, while the Hillsborough shop will open its doors on October 26. They join the other St Luke’s shops now in operation again at Crookes, Ecclesall Road, Crystal Peaks, Woodseats, City Road and Gleadless. “We thank all our supporters for their patience and are delighted that we are now able to add two more shops to the list of stores that are now fully operational again,” said St Luke’s Head of Retail Marie Egerton. “The response up to now has been great, both from bargain hunters and people wanting to make donations of all the things they have have been saving for us during lockdown. Donations can be taken to our Donation Centre on Fieldhouse Way Industrial Estate, or any of our open shops between 12 noon and 3pm on Mondays and Fridays.

NATIONAL commercial property and investment company LCP has acquired a local convenience parade after sign-

ing a deal for a retail site in Ecclesfield. LCP purchased the parade in 129-145 High Street, Ecclesfield, anchored by Co-operative

Food Group, on behalf of Sheet Anchor Investments Ltd (SAIL), one of the LCP group of managed companies, for £1.5 million.

Andrew Barrett, LCP’s retail director, said the parade, which comprises nine shops, three residential units and five garages on a 1.12-acre site with

car parking, is yet another good quality asset to add to its local convenience parade portfolio.

“We do point out that donations should not, under any circumstances, be left at any shop which is closed.” To find out which shops are now open and for details of the donation centre simply visit stlukeshospice.org.uk

In a statement, the practice said: “It is with regret that we feel we must bring this to your attention. “Unfortunately, in recent months we have noticed increasing incidences of verbal aggression and disrespect towards staff, both on the phone and at the front doors. “We appreciate how difficult things are at the moment and understand the frustration when the phone lines are so busy. “We share and understand this frustration and assure you our staff are working exceptionally hard to

provide the best service possible in very difficult circumstances. These circumstances are only set to worsen during the winter months. “Therefore we are now enforcing a zero tolerance policy. We will end phone calls for verbal aggression and abuse and will call the police for verbal and physical aggression at the front doors. “This behaviour will not be tolerated. We endeavour to be kind, courteous and respectful of all our patients, and we expect the same treatment in return. “We do hope you understand that we need to protect our staff through these unprecedented times and that by working together we can push through this difficult time.”

THROUGHOUT the pandemic Sheffield’s recycling centres have remained open, and weekly kerbside waste collection has been maintained.

This is in contrast with other local authorities in the country who closed recycling sites and provided a reduced kerbside waste collection service. As we move into the winter months it is usual for changes to the city’s waste management to be implemented. In normal times, most sites would close for a day or two a week, and see the opening hours limited to 10am to 4pm. However, Sheffield City Council has announced that this year all sites will remain open seven days a week, and will stay open to 5pm. Labour Councillor Mark Jones, Cabinet Member for Environment, Streetscene and Climate Change, said: “Throughout the crisis the Council has had to adapt all services and act quickly to protect citizens. Managing the city’s waste in such conditions has been difficult but early in the pandemic we took the

decision to keep our Household Waste Recycling Centres open. “This has helped to facilitate the safe and responsible disposal of waste, and has helped to reduce waste accumulation across the city so that kerbside waste collections could continue, should these services be significantly disrupted due to workforce issues. “In normal times, the majority of Recycling Centres would not be open every day of the week, but we have taken the decision to keep them open – all week – and keep them open for longer than they normally would be. Things remain just as difficult as it was in the summer months, and this is why we have taken this decision.

per Don added: “In normal times the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Deepcar would reduce opening hours to five days a week – in response to decreasing winter demand. However, we are in anything but normal times, and this is why Labour councillors have taken the decision to keep recycling centres open seven days a week and to keep them open an hour longer than they usually would be.

“There will be costs associated, however we will continue to monitor demand and review operations. We do not spend public money lightly, but keeping the public highways safe whilst ensuring that Sheffield’s residents can dispose of waste safely and responsibly is of cru- “I want to reassure residents that even though things are tough, I cial.” remain committed to ensuring a Cllr Julie Grocutt, Labour coun- high-quality waste management cillor for Stocksbridge and Up-

service, including weekly collections, and will strive to see this continue”. Cllr Adam Hurst, Labour Councillor for West Ecclesfield, said :“The High Green Household Waste Recycling Centre is well used throughout the area and it made sense to me to keep it open all week. “It is of course an incredibly challenging time, but I promise readers that Labour councillors will continue to work proactively to respond to changing waste management issues caused by the Covid pandemic.”

PUB COVERS UP FOR SCOUTS THE Old Harrow in Grenoside has found a novel way of helping fundraise for Grenoside Scout and Guide Group.

Stacey and Dean who took over the Old Harrow at the end of January, have a supply of masks in the pub in case anyone forgets to bring one. In return they are asking for a donation to the Scout & Guide Group.

The development is earmarked for the former Beetlestone have put the application for the 11 dwellings in on the former site of Daisy Chain nursery on Langsett Road South.

The Scout and Guide group are part way through building an extension on their headquarters, but are still fundraising to complete this.

At the time of writing, there are 32 comments on Sheffield City Council’s planning website, with the vast majority of them objecting to the development.

With the current situation all fundraising events have been cancelled so fundraising is very hard at the moment. They are however hoping to run a Christmas Fair on Saturday November 28 with outdoor stalls, but this will obviously depend on the regulations in place at the time.

Increased traffic is the most commonly-cited objection with one comment reading: “Oughtibridge has expanded enormously over recent years and is already struggling with traffic and local services.

They are also running a Christmas raffle to be drawn on that day. If any businesses can offer a prize for the raffle or a prize for a stall, they would be very grateful. Please get in touch by emailing grenosandg@ gmail.com or message them on facebook. You can also buy tickets for the raffle by sending them a message.

“The doctors and school are over capacity now and with the development on the old paper mill going ahead, will be stretched to breaking point. “The roads are already very busy and especially at commuting times with many documented accidents and injuries. This development can only add to the

“Then there are the residents of this immediate area. Most buildings are of two storey construction of Victorian style, mostly terrace with some larger housing, this development would not suit this area. The size of it would be very imposing, blocking light and potentially infringing privacy. “This village is no longer a village, I understand development must go on but this part of Sheffield has already been over developed and is struggling to cope. Please consider the problems all these new houses will cause especially this development, squeezed into an already tight corner of Oughtibridge.” However, another comment welcomes to application. It reads, “I fully support this development. Daisy Chain is unoccupied and looks a mess from the street. New apartments would benefit the area.” You can comment on the application by searching for 20/02908/ OUT at planningapps.gov.uk. Consultation ends on October 7.

Will and Peter hoping for an explosive start to challenge FRIENDS Will Gaunt and Peter Linley are hoping their fundraising goes off with a bang as they embark on a major cycling adventure on Bonfire Night! Will and Jack, who live in Chapeltown, have chosen November 5 as the day they set off on a 375 mile bike ride from Sheffield to popular Cornish holiday destination Cornwall. And the money they raise during their adventure will go to St Luke’s Hospice, who supported both Will’s grandfather Ken Gaunt and Jack’s aunt, Susan Birds.

“My grandad was a St Luke’s community patient so the bike ride seems the right thing to do to give something back,” said Will. “Every person we speak to about the ride says great things about St Luke’s and we know this is a charity that means a lot to people in Sheffield.” The friends will set off on their five day journey on November 5, completing the first 96 miles from Sheffield to Sutton Coldfield on day one, then taking the next 73 miles to Frampton on Severn, a further 71 miles to Bridgewater, an extra 72 miles to Okehampton in Devon and

then a final 63 miles to reach the finish at Newquay. “We do go out on the bikes every now and again so we thought we’d step it up a bit and do something that could make a difference,” said Will. “It’s going to be a challenge but we do know that it will make a difference to the lives of St Luke’s patients and we hope to raise more than £1,000.” To support Will and Peter on their cycling challenge simply visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sheff2newquay

Making moorlands safe

OVER the weekend, Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team took part in a joint exercise with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Regiment (RLC) and South Yorkshire Police.

In the end, just one item needed to be disposed of at the scene and the rest removed to make the moorland above Langsett a much safer place and reduce the amount of times RLC would be called out to investigate.

The aim of the exercise was to locate a number of unexploded ordnance from the old WWII training grounds on the moors above Langsett.

Whilst conducting this exercise, the team recieved a callout for an injured mountain biker in Wharncliffe Woods, as team members began to arrive, the casualty had managed to self extract to the ambulance crew so team members were able to stand down and return to the exercise.

Team members managed to find around 47 items for the RLC to examine and decide whether to remove the item to be incinerated or to perform a controlled explosion where the items was located.

Rotary Club takes their pick Age no barrier for mini cyclist YOU can sit and think about fundraising…or you can follow five-year-old Lila Law’s lead and get on your bike! Lila, who lives with mum and dad Martin and Jess and brother Freddie in Tankersley and is a pupil at Silkstone Primary School, has only just got the hang of life on two wheels. But that didn’t stop her from getting on her bike and raising £150 for South Yorkshire youth homelessness charity Roundabout.

THE Rotary Club of Wortley, joined by local MP Miriam Cates and her daughter Ana, have been making a difference to their community by picking up rubbish from the two slip roads at Wortley off the Stocksbridge Bypass on Saturday September 19. The group had a total of eight people operating social distancing and worked in groups of four person. The team were kitted out with gloves, litter picking sticks, illuminated safe-

ty jackets and lots of empty plastic bags. The exercise, along with similar ones all over the country, was in support of the Great British September Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy. Miriam said: “It’s been fantastic that we’ve all been able to enjoy the great outdoors again, but it is such a shame to see that with the lockdown easing there is also more litter being left in our public spaces.” The group found dozens of bottles, bits of plastic and glass, several five

gallon plastic containers, a computer screen and two large heavy vehicle tyres. They also came across quite a few disposable medical masks, which have been found entangled with wildlife and causing a major problem. Altogether, 19 bags of rubbish were collected. Steven Patterson, President of the Rotary Club of Wortley, had arranged for the local council to collect the rubbish on the following Monday.

“She’s at that age when she’s starting to understand what it’s like to do something for other people and she was asking me and her mum about charity and what it means,” said Martin. “When we asked her what she would like to do, she said she’d like to do it for people who don’t have a house or a bedroom to sleep in. “We went online and found out about Roundabout and because it’s a charity for young people, we thought it would be ideal.” Martin also did some research on possible routes and came

up with a 15 mile stretch of the Pennine Trail, starting out from Dunford Bridge and then coming back to the family home in Tankersley. “To be honest, we though she might raise £20 or so and we couldn’t believe it when we reached £150. “Money doesn’t mean a lot to her at this age but she does understand how people have supported her.” Roundabout Chief Executive Ben Keegan commented: “Lila is quite simply a fundraising superstar! “She has achieved something incredible and we are delighted that she specifically wanted to help others and support a charity like Roundabout. “Her enthusiasm and determination to succeed really will make a massive difference to the lives of some of South Yorkshire’s most vulnerable young people.” There’s still time to support Lila and make a contribution. Your Letters Jawbone Car boot, Oughtibridge We have taken the difficult decision to cancel our last car boot sale of the season, planned for Sunday October 4. The car boot has become very popular this year and we understand many will be disappointed, but we have to put the safety of our staff, visitors and local community first and feel that this is the right thing to do in light of an increase in Covid cases and tightening of lockdown measures. Thank you for your support during a difficult 2020. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2021.

Supertram

It is a great shame that the new MD at Stagecoach The Wharncliffe Side Players bus does not have the customer focus his predecessor had and colluded with Supertram and the PTE to leave their customers in the cold.

Once again we see the planned disruption of Supertram and a bus replacement terminating at Middlewood, with Supertram and the PTE continuing to force passengers to change buses at Middlewood and not bother to hold the Although it comes as no surprise given the current replacement bus a couple of minutes if the tramlink Covid situation and restrictions, The Wharncliffe

It should be automatic that when there is planned bus replacement that the service should be combined with the tramlink. Alistair Nicoll, Sheffield

NEW MESSAGE FROM POLICE CHIEF

I have written on a number of occasions about our approach to policing in relation to Covid. We have used an engage, educate and encourage approach whilst reserving enforcement as a last resort. This was entirely appropriate in allowing people time to understand and process the restrictions. The vast majority of people have put every effort into adhering to the rules despite the unwelcome nature of the restrictions on normal family, social and work life. This group, comprising

all but a small minority, will see little change in the policing approach. We are however entering into new territory and it follows that we will need to adopt an approach, which is increasingly less tolerant of wilful non-compliance, as we face down the coming winter months together. I would venture that it would be surprising indeed to find anybody who by now was unfamiliar with the basic tenets of mask wearing, maintaining distances and regular hand washing. The point is, we have all had ample opportunity to get used to what, some six month ago, was still very new and alien to our normal way of life. Those choosing now to flout the rules do so from a misguided and evidently selfish place. With this in mind, we will incrementally be moving to a position whereby we reasonably start to place less emphasis on the ‘engage and educate’ elements of our approach as we shift more readily to the ‘encourage and enforce’ end of the spectrum. Accordingly, and unless we see what would be a welcome reduction in those pockets of noncompliance, we can expect to see the use of fixed penalty no-

Side Players are deeply saddened to announce that bus is running a little late because Supertram and we have had to cancel this year’s pantomime. the PTE believe that punctuality is more important than the service provided to their customers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who come to see us year in, year out... In May 2019 I had conversations with Matt Davis, many of who tell us that the Wharncliffe Side Panto the MD of Stagecoach bus at the time, and he was really is the start of Christmas for them! able to arrange that in the summer that the tram replacement and tramlink buses would run as one We hope you all stay safe & healthy and fingers buses would be combined which I am sure was crossed, we look forward to seeing you next year. much appreciated by customers.

Wharncliffe Side Panto

I’m sure we are all suffering a degree of message fatigue at the moment, so I thought long and hard before adding another message to the many. I do hope however, at least from the SYP perspective, to provide you with some clarity amongst the noise that currently surrounds our collective battle with the dreadful Covid virus. Much of the information currently emerging speaks to a changing picture; a resurgent infection rate, new rules and regulations, together with increased fines and penalties. I hope to provide some clarity as to what you can expect from your police force in the months ahead and what we expect from the communities we serve.

tices increase along with action against non-compliant businesses. I note that only last week Sheffield Council took steps to close a number of businesses for a breach of regulations. They have my full support in their endeavours and where their powers do not stretch far enough, the powers available to the police will be engaged. We are not aiming to catch people out. Frankly, my officers would be delighted not to have to prosecute anybody for Covid related offences during what is a difficult time for our country. We are however duty bound to uphold the law in a manner which hopefully protects the many from the irresponsible actions of the few. I want to be absolutely clear that South Yorkshire Police are properly equipped and resourced to do what is required to play our part in what is a huge national effort designed to overcome these difficult times. Contrary to a bit of rather excited public commentary, I have no intention, nor need, to request any substantial support from our armed forces, superb though they are. There is nothing in the regulations that cannot be effectively managed by the police, local authori-

ties, health bodies and several other agencies who have been working very well together from the outset. I know that it is something of a cliché , but we are all in this together. My officers and staff are a part of the local community too and our approach is designed to be supportive, constructive and helpful. In this respect, our approach remains the same. All that I am signalling is a subtle recalibration in our decision making and operational stance given the grim picture which so stubbornly prevails at present. To do otherwise would be quite unfair as it would see us failing to preserve the gains achieved by the stoicism and behaviours of the substantial majority. As has been said by those better acquainted with epidemiology than I, we need to act decisively now if we are to avoid an even more prolonged period of what is a thoroughly miserable set of circumstances. As I said at the start of this crisis, we are here for you and will remain here for you. Our ambitious recruitment plans are still in full operation and we are now being joined by substantial numbers of additional officers. These new officers represent a welcome

WHEELERS WELCOME HILL CLIMBERS BIRDWELL Wheelers held their open hill climb and this year the club had Green Moor Cricket Club as the picturesque setting for their outdoor headquarters. With a rare tailwind on the hill fast times were expected. Third rider off was 15-year-old Oliver Akers of Garden Shed UK/Scott Verge Sport who flew up the hill in 2m 22.5s, less than eight seconds off the course record of 2m 14.7s set last year. His time remained fastest until the last two riders finished. Tenth rider off was 17-year-old Junior Lucy Ellmore from Otley CC who finished in 2m 59.9s which proved good enough for the fastest ride by a woman. Fastest Male Veteran was Jon Wild from Veloviewer in 2m 33.3s and fastest Woman Veteran was Sonia Insley from Bolsover in 3m 59.3s.

Heggie on his way to a new club age record © www.ianchapmanphotography.com

Fastest Birdwell rider on the day was Dan Emery in 2m 41.8s who consequently won the club’s hillclimb trophy. Second was Trevor Mayne in 3m 20.2s and 3rd was David Jarvis, a previous winner of

the Open Event, returning after a number of years, in 3m 25.0s. Penultimate rider Marcus Cram from Blaydon CC in 2m 20.7s knocked Oliver off top spot only to be beaten by last man off, 2018 winner Andy Nichols who finished in 2m 14.3 seconds-a new course record by 0.4 seconds! The previous day Paul Heggie rode in the VTTA (Yorkshire) 10 mile Open Time Trial at Gilberdyke in the East Riding. A 15 mph tailwind made for a fast ride out but meant riders struggled against the wind on the return leg. Heggie recorded a time of 26m 28s placing him 69th out of 100 finishers. The time was a new club record for the distance at 67-years-old. Due to the restrictions on maximum gatherings of six people the club have currently suspended their Sunday club rides. These will resume when government guidelines allow. More details on all the above can be found at http://www.birdwellwheelerscyclingclub.co.uk

SILVER FOR TIGERS MAN SHEFFIELD TIGERS ace Richard Lawson claimed silver in Monday’s British Speedway Final at Belle Vue. Lawson, a winter signing by the Owlerton club, was impressive throughout in tricky conditions and went straight into the final after a top two finish in qualifying. But Rory Schlein, who had a spell with Sheffield as a youngster in their Conference League Prowlers

team almost 20-years ago, was the winner after a majestic display to edge out Lawson. Cumbrian-born Lawson beat triple World Champion Jason Crump in fine style in his opening ride after making a fast start from gate two. Crump held the inside line but in wet conditions wasn’t ready to try the outside run. He made it two from two with an immaculate start from the inside

gate in Heat 7 and comfortably beat former champion Danny King.

points were enough to enable him to progress.

And his third ride was stunning. Going into the first turn he was third, but he went into a perfect place on the track to glide past Rory Schlein to take the win from the outside gate.

And he went straight through to the final with a third place in Heat 20 behind winner Chris Harris and Steve Worrall – his three wins were enough to get him through.

Lawson was off the tricky gate four in his penultimate qualifying race and finished third despite his best efforts to pass Ben Barker – but 10-

LOVELL COMES TO RESCUE FOR CHURCH AS WAR MEMORIAL LOSE

THE OLDER players for Penistone Church showed their experience on Saturday as a late goal from veteran centre half Brett Lovell, along with Andy Ring’s first half strike helped them to a 2-1 win against Eccleshill United in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division. Ring found the net in the 11th minute only for Dominic Staunton to level the scores on 22 minutes. But the Nick Firth Tiles Man of the Match Lovell hit the winner from a corner just five minutes from the end. Church manager Ian Richards said: “Finally - we got our league campaign going, I’m really pleased that

we could. It was delayed and delayed for the right reason.

“Today was brilliant that all that work in pre-season, the last two national competition games, the FA Vase and FA Cup paid off and we got our first win in the league on opening day at home and I believe we deserved it and we dominated. “Their goal in the first half was a world class strike, 30 yards into the top corner, but apart from that they didn’t really threaten, they played in front of us which is how we wanted them to play. “Our corners have been a real positive from us, something we’ve worked really hard on in pre-season and they paid off. I’m really

pleased for Brett, he’s deserved his man of the match award, I thought him and Tom Brennan who came back in were excellent and I’m really pleased he scored the winner.

“Its credit to him, he’s 37 and he still has the desire to do well. It’s that winning mentality also he’s worked very hard on his fitness that was a positive but there were a lot of other positives in that today. “We move forward now and use this as a spring board to go away to AFC Mansfield for a really tough first away game of the season.” Before the game the belated Wentworth Pewter Player of the season for 2019/2020 was awarded to Cameron Simpson.

* IN their opening home fixture and in front of a large crowd, Oughtibridge War memorial found themselves losing to a Crookes side who now sit top of the division after their 3-1 victory at Oughtibridge. The home side started the brighter and it might have been very different had Charlie Cope not missed an early penalty for Oughtibridge Match winner Brett Lovell after a handball. Callum Simms squandered a great chance soon after, shooting straight at the keeper. Andy Parkin gave Crookes a half-time lead and Daniel Flynn doubled it in the second half just as the home side started to have their best spell of the game.

An Ollie Black free kick 10 minutes from time was deflected into his own goal by Tom Staniland and this gave Oughtibridge hope. Despite going close with a Cope free kick, Andrew Fox settled the game for Crookes late on.

Pandemic continues to hamper Stocksbridge Rugby THE Covid-19 Pandemic continues to hamper the preparations for Stocksbridge Rugby and their return to playing. The latest information suggests it will be at least January 2021 before the Coal Pit Lane outfit will be involved in any meaningful matches. “It’s frustrating,’ declared Director of Rugby Andy Tyers, “but we have to get on with it.

“There are people and businesses in a worse state than us, I guess it’s just the world we currently live in.” With the club continuing to train on a Wednesday evenings, the coaching team have been impressed with the level of commitment and the progress of the squad as a whole. Under the experienced eyes of Yorkshire veteran John Dudley and Tyers, the team have been developing their style of play and working on their fitness with specific running drills imported from the NRL in Australia. “If it works for them, it will certainly help us,” says Tyers. The ambitious club have also added to their playing roster with former Broughton Park centre Adam Roles-Middlehurst joining after speaking to a work colleague. PARK STEELS SLUMP TO DEFEAT Stocksbridge PS 0-2 Loughborough Dynamo

By Adam Allcroft STOCKSBRIDGE Park Steels slipped to a 2-0 defeat despite opponents Loughborough Dynamo having two men sent off in the second half. Loughborough took the lead with their first attack of the game with Daniel Gordon slipping past the defender after being given too much space and he was able to finish from a narrow angle. They would shortly after get a penalty following a clumsy barge by Jordan Lemon and Curt Burrows stepped up to bury the resulting spot kick. The second half would be the story of two red cards. Karl Demidh would be sent off for a two footed challenge on Michael Trench which saw the defender go off injured and goal scorer Gordon would also get his marching orders after his part in a second bookable offence. Stocksbridge got off to a decent start as they looked to banish the poor performance from the match against Kidsgrove Athletic. Luke Mangham put in a decent cross and it ended up at the feet of Kurtis Turner who

blared over. The best chance of first half would come not long after with Robert Ludlum getting a free header from a corner only for it to go into the arms of Ruben Rabstein in the Loughborough goal. Mangham would go on to have his weekly overhead kick but it was also easily saved. Frustratingly for Stocksbridge, Loughborough scored with their first attack of the game. Daniel Gordon got too much space and was able to advance with little trouble before using some pace to pass a defender then finish from a narrow angle. Loughborough’s second goal was another frustrating one. Jordan Lemon barged Karl Demidh down in the box when chasing the ball and the referee didn’t hesitate to give the penalty. Curt Burrows stepped up and didn’t make any mistake from the box. Towards the end of the first half, Joe Lumsden showed some liveliness as Stocksbrodge battled to get back into the game. As well as some good runs, he was able to get some shots off.

However, the first shot ended up in a neighbor’s garden while he wasn’t able to get a good enough connection on a floating ball meaning Rabstein collected to keep Loughborough 2-0 up going into half time.

Loughborough instantly had a chance to kill the game off when a lofted ball was played through and Demidh was able to latch onto it. He would then hit the ball well over in a let off for the Stocksbridge defence. Stocksbridge’s best chance of the game came just a few minutes later. The corner saw a low cross put in and Loughborough botched their clearance. It went to Ludlum at the far post but he would end up hitting over to the anguish of the home fans. The major drama would then happen. Loughborough missed a great chance when Burrows got clear only for his shot to be well saved by Ed Hall. However it was just a minute after when Demidh put in a shocking twofooted challenge on Trench which saw him get a straight red card. Trench would be down for four minutes but was able to walk off the pitch.

This gave Stocksbridge some energy going forward and they had some half chances. Kurtis Turner’s long range shot was saved by Rabstein, who didn’t do the best job holding onto it, before a great pass from Scott Ruthven let Mangham free but good defending put enough pressure on him to force him to hit wide. The second red card would come shortly after. After Rabstein collected the ball following some uncertainty, Ruthven kicked the ball while it was still in his hands. This triggered yet another melee like the one that happened following Demidh’s horror challenge. After it was calmed down, the referee handed goalscorer Gordon his second booking for his part in the melee. Stocksbridge pushed forward against the nine men but despite the two-man advantage, they were not able to create the clear cut chance which would get them back in the game. Lewis Whitham had a shot going towards the bottom corner saved and Ruthven hit a shot over from close range, but they weren’t able to break Loughborough down and slipped to their second defeat in a row.
