Play equipment for Oxley Park revealed Continued from front page cyne Johnson, the Friends of Oxley Park and the Leisure Trust for their efforts towards securing this funding. “This investment will make a significant difference to our communities in Stocksbridge. We’ll be delivering a range of improvements that will benefit people of all ages, addressing social, physical and environmental aspects, while transforming Oxley Park into an accessible community facility for all local people to enjoy.” Work will include: • Creation of a new children’s playground next to the Leisure Centre, with fixed equipment and a natural play area. The new playground will make use of the surrounding landscape and will be linked via a play trail to the new Leisure Centre café terrace. • Developing infrastructure which will include access routes, landscap-
ing and additional bike and car parking provision to ensure the new developments encourage and facilitate sustainable travel but are also accessible to car users of the Leisure Centre and Oxley Park. • Creation of an outdoor seating terrace and toddler area for the new Leisure Centre Café which will link into the park. Andy Clarke, Chief Executive of the Trust and Centre Manager said: “We are delighted to be involved in this project which will create greater access to Oxley Park and link up with our new and popular ‘Oxley’s café, serving both Centre and park users. We hope the improved access and parking for both vehicles and cycles will attract greater use of these fantastic local resources.” The project will further enhance the refurbishment work recently completed to the Leisure Centre and will
be the first phase in delivering priorities for Oxley Park which were highlighted in recent consultation. We are working with a number of partners including Stocksbridge Town Council, Friends of Oxley Park and Steel Valley Project to deliver this and future phases which are planned to include a new All Wheels Facility and further enhancements to the footpath networks around the park. Vic Faulkner from the Friends of Oxley Park, said: “We are excited to see that funding has been secured for much needed play facilities in Oxley Park and are looking forward to progressing this and future phases of improvements.” Work is expected to begin on site in early 2021 to deliver the new playground and wider site improvements.

Walkley woman sentenced for child sexual offences in Sheffield A 27-year-old Sheffield woman has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after admitting sexual offences against children. Kirsty Jubb, formerly of Walkey Road, Sheffield, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Friday November 13 to be sentenced, after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual communication with a child at an earlier hearing. The court heard how Jubb groomed two boys, who cannot be named for legal
reasons, over a period of months sending explicit text messages to them both. One of the boys was then subjected to multiple sexual assaults. Investigating officer, Temporary Detective Sergeant Lee Atkins, said: “Jubb manipulated and groomed her victims, sending them sexual and explicit messages. When Jubb was arrested and her phone was seized, we found evidence of thousands of messages. “Jubb also sexually assaulted one of the victims. Both boys
have shown exceptional bravery and strength in talking to police officers about Jubb’s offending and I am grateful to them and their families for the support given to our investigation. “Jubb is now facing a custodial sentence for her crimes and I hope her victims are able to now begin to move forward and recover from this undoubtedly traumatic and upsetting time in their young lives.” Jubb was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

PCSOs in Sheffield will literally be able to go that ‘extra mile’ for their communities now they have more power in their pedals, thanks to local councillors. Councillors from Sheffield have funded three electric bikes for use by PSCOs on their patrols across the city and boroughs. The e-bikes will enable officers to patrol greater distances than they can achieve on
foot. They will be used by the Sheffield City Centre Team and the North West Neighbourhood Team.
“We are very grateful of the funding from the council to enable us to increase our visibility within our area.”
Sheffield North West Neighbourhood PCSO Anthony Hizam said: “These bikes will allow us, as PCSOs to cover a much bigger area than what we can on foot, enabling us to respond to the needs of our community more effectively.
In addition to increasing the geographical footprint officers patrol, the bikes will also be used during safepass operations- an operation dedicated to ensuring cyclists and drivers share the road safely. This means that officers will be able to increase their distance and operation length.

Elderly man loses £6,000 in courier fraud scam OFFICERS in South Yorkshire Police’s fraud co-ordination team are urging residents to beware of courier fraudsters targeting vulnerable victims in our area, with one elderly man losing some £6,000. Courier fraud is a scam where offenders phone victims and claim to be from a bank, the police or another official authority, and convince the victim that they need their help to gather evidence and solve a fraud case. The victims may then hand over ‘evidence’ in the form of their bank cards, cash and/or other high value goods to a courier who is sent to their home. DC Tim Bell, from the force’s fraud co-ordination team, said: “Action Fraud has made us aware of a number of courier fraud incidents in Barnsley and Sheffield over the last few days, including six in the same day yesterday (Tuesday 10 November). “Courier fraudsters are extremely cruel they pose as officials and then betray their victims’ trust in a nasty scheme to steal their money or expensive items. “In one recent incident, an elderly gentleman lost £6,000 after receiving a call from somebody who claimed to be a DS Brown from the Paddington fraud squad. This fake police officer told the victim their bank account had been used fraudulently and he needed the victim’s help to investigate the bank. “The victim withdrew £6,000 from his bank account and, when he got home, gave the serial numbers of the notes to the fraudster. The victim was told the notes were counter-
feit and needed to be collected by an officer. A few hours later, a man turned up at the victim’s home and collected the money. “Of course, this was all a horrible trick and the offender has got away with £6,000 in cash.” Before police were called, the same victim had also gone to a watch specialist and tried to buy two Rolex watches totalling £25,000. Luckily, the staff suspected something wasn’t right and raised the alarm. In other recent scams, a 75-year-old woman was told she owed £2,000 in unpaid tax and had to make repayments using Amazon vouchers. The offenders sent a taxi to collect her and take her to the shop to buy the vouchers. DC Bell added: “I’d urge anyone who has elderly or vulnerable relatives or loved ones to check up on them and make sure they know not to fall for it if they are contacted themselves. “If you think you are on the phone to a fraudster, hang up the phone straightaway and then call back your bank, or the police, on a trusted number using a different phone line or mobile. If you can’t do that, wait at least 30 minutes before using the same phone, in case the fraudster is still on the line.” Reports of courier fraud should be made to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk. If somebody is present at your address to collect money, bank cards or other items, call 999 and quote Operation Radium Mike.
Cannon Hall Park and Gardens are ‘buzzing’ about their latest award
THE Community Project in High Green was started by an initiative by Maureen Greaves from St Saviour’s Church to support the people in High Green and Chapeltown in the north of Sheffield. An integral part of the Project has always been the food bank which initially ran from premises on Greengate Lane in High Green but since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic is now co-ordinated from the Church with the food stored at a separate site in High Green. The food bank has received support, both financial and
donations of food, from Sheffield City Council, local charities and the community in the High Green and Chapeltown areas of Sheffield.
“We all need a little help at some time in our lives. We aim to be a short term solution over a few weeks until other longer term support is put in place.
In particular, the customers of Asda in Chapeltown give large amounts of food on a weekly basis to be distributed through the food bank.
“We can deliver food parcels locally if getting out is an issue or alternatively they can be collected. If we can help you in these difficult times please ring or text 07561 699535 and we will get back to you by the next day. Further details can be found on www.stsaviours.info and follow the links to the food bank.”
Angus Ferguson of the food bank told Look Local: “We are here to support the families in the local community who are facing challenges in these difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
CANNON Hall Park and Gardens are first time winners of the ‘Bees’ Needs Champions Awards for their work in creating a welcoming habitat for bees and insects. The awards are run by Defra in partnership with the Green Flag Awards, the Bee Farmers’ Association, Championing the Farmed Environment and the Nature Friendly Farming Network. The awards recognise and celebrate examples of exemplary initiatives undertaken by local authorities, community groups, farmers
and businesses to support pollinators. 32 winners have been chosen for the parks and greenspaces category across England, of which Cannon Hall Parklands are one. Major work has taken place across the parklands including planting of a beautiful wildflower meadow, which can be seen from the South Front of the Hall. As well as looking stunning the flowers will encourage eco systems to develop and attract new wildlife to the parklands. Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place
(Regeneration and Culture) said: “Cannon Hall Parklands is an important space for visitors but also to the vast array of wildlife who live there. It has been vital to people, particularly over the last seven months to be able to appreciate and experience the nature found there as a way to relax and unwind. “We are delighted that the new additions to the parkland, such as the wildflower meadow will encourage even more habitats and we are proud to be recognised in this way.”

Inspirational Lennie inspires piano donation for Paces
A NATIONAL television appearance by inspirational eight-year-old Lennie Street has led to a Yorkshire music business donating a piano to his High Green special school. The young musician from Leeds, who has Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus, isn’t able to stand or walk independently. He has raised nearly £12,000 since he set himself a lockdown challenge of learning songs to play on the piano. His efforts were featured on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch last month and caught the attention of Melvin Besbrode, the director of Leedsbased Besbrode Pianos. He was so impressed by Lennie’s
story he has donated a piano to his school, Paces.
Melvin said: “I always find it astounding to see the joy that both the person playing and the people listening get from a piano, seeing the enormous number of positives achieved from Lennie playing his piano on TV. It seemed like the obvious thing to offer a piano to his fund.” Donations to Lennie’s fundraising efforts are going to his school which is fundraising for build a new home to support more children and young people in the future. Paces teaches children lifechanging skills using conductive education - such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, communication
and self-care - in an environment they can have fun, develop friendships, and feel like they belong. Headteacher Ruth Liu said: “It’s fantastic to have a piano in school. Music is such an important part of life at Paces and having a piano will allow us to engage the pupils in so many different ways. “Many pupils and staff love to sing and to be able to do that accompanied by a piano will be so exciting. We all enjoy listening to Lennie playing and can’t wait to hear so many more fantastic tunes from him. “We are so grateful to Melvin and Besbrode Pianos for this wonderful donation.”
School pupils get creative with bottles to remember war heroes
PUPILS from Windmill Hill Primary in Chapeltown got creative this Remembrance Day, turning the bottom of used plastic bottles into poppies for an artwork display. The project, which every child in school took part in, saw a bright and powerful art display on the school fence revealed to pupils and parents on November 11 to mark Remembrance Day. The display is part of wider activities in school to help pupils understand the significance of the day. Mr Plant, Head of Windmill Hill, said: “Every year our pupils buy poppies, take part in the silence and do other classroom based activities to mark the day and to learn about the history of the World Wars.
“Usually learning about and commemorating these events is also part of whole school assemblies. This year because of the pandemic we aren’t able to bring all our pupils together into one room for an assembly so instead we have brought their artwork together as part of a whole school artwork display.” Mr Kerry, Teacher and History Lead at Windmill Hill, said: “We are pleased with the result and many parents have commented on how striking the display is. “It is great to be able to play our part in helping our pupils and their families to remember all those who have lost their lives serving our country.”

Daughter of missing man appeals for support of community THE daughter of a missing Barnsley man has issued a desperate appeal to find her dad, exactly one year since he was last seen.
heart, please, please get in touch and tell somebody what you know. I don’t deserve to live like this, I just need some answers.
Bethany Dainty says the last year has been the toughest of her life following the disappearance of her father, 56-year-old Richard Dyson.
“If you don’t want to speak to the police directly you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously or go online and report it that way, the police don’t need to know who you are.”
Bethany, 20, last saw her dad on Friday 15 November 2019, when he dropped her off in Aston, Rotherham. They had a very close relationship and so, after he missed their next arranged meeting, she reported him missing on Monday 25 November. An investigation was launched and enquiries established Richard was last seen on Sunday 17 November at about 11pm, walking along the A6135 Sheffield Road, Hoyland , near to Parkside Farm. Bethany said: “The last 12 months have been the toughest of my life. Waking up every day not knowing what has happened to Dad is like a bad dream that I can’t get away from. All I want to know is what happened. I am certain somebody, or maybe even more than one person, knows something that will help. I ask you directly, and from the bottom of my
Detective Inspector Neil Coop, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: “Over the last year my team has trawled CCTV footage, conducted house-to-house enquiries, forensically examined Richard’s cars and carried out extensive telecoms work. This is still very much an active investigation and we are all focused on getting Bethany the answers she deserves. “Bethany and Richard had a very close relationship and saw each other most Sundays. Over the last year this young woman has had to mark Richard’s birthday, Father’s Day, Christmas, her own birthday and countless other important dates without her dad. I don’t want another Christmas to pass with her not knowing what has happened.”
DI Coop’s team is particularly keen to understand Richard’s movements in the days leading up to when he was last seen, and those immediately afterwards. He added:” Richard was known to spend time in the Elsecar and Hoyland areas of Barnsley. Please look at the photos of Richard and cast your mind back to this time last year. Did you see Richard? Did you have information that may help our investigation? It doesn’t matter how minor you think your contribution may be, we really do want to hear from you. What you know could be the key that unlocks this investigation and ultimately helps Bethany.” Richard is about 5ft 10ins – 6ft tall, of a slim build and with short, grey hair. If you know where he is or have any information, you can call us on 101 quoting incident number 459 of 25 November 2019. Alternatively, you can stay completely anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers via their website Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling their UK Contact Centre on 0800 555 111.
New cycle route in Deepcar to strengthen ‘Little Don’ connection SHEFFIELD City Council’s Cabinet is giving the goahead to plans to provide an improved crossing point at Wortley Road in Deepcar. The crossing is part of an existing bridleway, the Little Don Link, connecting north Sheffield with Deepcar, Fox Valley and Stocksbridge. Cycle counters have also been installed at strategic points along the main route. The crossing was initially designed as part of the ‘Little Don Link’ project and Labour councillors say they have been working hard to secure extra funding to ensure that the new crossing is part of future plans.
Work is expected to cost £60,000. Commenting on the scheme Councillor Julie Grocutt, Labour Councillor for Stocksbridge and Upper Don, said: “Connecting north Sheffield with our wider communities is absolutely crucial. I’m delighted to see the Little Don link continue to expand – and the new crossing at Worley Road is another piece in the jigsaw. “This will not only help pedestrians and cyclists to get to where they need to be, safely, but will also make it even easier to enjoy the wonderful outdoors we have locally.”
On approving the scheme, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Development, Bob Johnson, commented: “Improving connectivity and making sure residents can fully enjoy outdoor spaces is something we’re absolutely committed to. “We’ve recently unveiled huge plans for the Don Valley, linking the city centre with Hillsborough and Stocksbridge, and I know that these are going to be used a great deal. But we’re not resting on our laurels and we’re continuing to make improvements to existing routes – and the new crossing in Deepcar will do exactly that.”
Cllr Julie Grocutt has welcomed the news
Time to get your school applications in
FAMILIES applying for their child’s school place are being urged to make sure they fill in their application forms. For secondary school applications, families must submit their forms by November 30. For families applying for primary school places in reception or to start junior school, the closing date is January 15 of next year. Parents will find out the results of their secondary school application
on March 1 2021 and the results of primary school applications on April 16 2021. With a tight squeeze on places due to a rising population, it is more important than ever that parents and carers complete and submit their forms on time. Parents should fill in all three preferences in order to keep their options open. Parents are entitled to express up to three preferences but some parents choose not to. Put-
ting down three preferences does not dilute the chance of parents getting their preferred option, but does provide alternatives should this school be over-subscribed. Families are also encouraged to name their catchment school as one of their preferences as places cannot be reserved for catchment pupils where a preference for this school has not been expressed. Councillor Abtisam Mohamed, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet
Member for Education and Skills said: “We all want the best for our children and a huge priority for us is to keep on raising attainment and achievement rates across the city. Getting children into their preferred school and providing outstanding local schools are key to this. “I would encourage all parents and carers to fill in their application form for a school place as soon as possible and most importantly fill in all preferences. If families need
help with the form they should contact 0114 273 5790.” To apply online for primary schools visit https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/ home/schools-childcare. For secondary schools please contact the Admissions Team for an application form at ed-admissions.sheffield.gov.uk or 273 5790.

Valley Boy reply Dear Editor,
The entertaining and humorous letter from my friend Nigel (Valley Boy) in last week’s issue of the Look Local expressed so much of what I believe a lot of Stocksbridge people’s viewpoint is as regards My hope is that somewhere in all of this someone Stocksbridge at the moment. looks to see what is needed to provide a healthy ‘Shutter Town’ was a nickname that was very apt balance of all sectors which will enhance our town and his opinion of how the main road shops have and help it become an even better place to live, been neglected was also very true. work and volunteer in. PENISTONE WOMAN LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO FEED 70 FAMILIES AT CHRISTMAS A PENISTONE woman is using social media in a campaign to provide 70 struggling families with Christmas hampers. Jo Griffin, 47, says that she regularly donates to food banks but with the added difficulties caused by coronavirus at the moment, she wanted to do something to help. She told Look Local: “I used to be a Health Visitor, and had a connection with the food bank, and was involved in giving food bank vouchers to families who were struggling. “I feel that most people aren’t really aware of how so many people are living in poverty, and really do struggle to feed their families. Since discovering that food bank use has rocketed in the last decade, I have always made sure I donate to the food bank collection when I’m shopping for my own groceries. Jo Griffin
“I am very aware that many more families would be vulnerable and struggling this year due to the social and financial impact of Covid,
and Christmas is hard enough at the best of times. Really, it’s a small gesture, but I thought that providing a Christmas dinner would be a small way to ease the burden of Christmas; just one less thing to worry about. “I’m involved in several community Facebook groups, so within five minutes of having the idea, I had posted on We Are Penistone, asking if anybody would be interested in working with me to provide 10 hampers to provide a Christmas dinner to local struggling families. “The response was immediate and incredible and I knew within the hour, that it was going to be a bigger project than I’d first anticipated. “Within a few days, in order to manage and facilitate the campaign, I created a Facebook group, Penistone Christmas Dinner Hamper Project, and asked people to join. Via this group, we are able to communicate and co-ordinate. “People are either able to offer actual food donations, or they can make a cash donation to the
GoFundMe account we opened for the project. If anybody wishes to help, please find and join the Facebook group. “At present we’re looking like we will be able to provide around 70 hampers within the community. Nobody within the group is responsible for identifying the recipients of the hampers. “Instead we will be liaising with headteachers of local schools, with the local foodbank, and with other local social and health professionals, all of whom will have knowledge of vulnerable families. “Families have to consent to receiving a hamper, and they will be reassured and guaranteed that the donation is private, discreet and confidential. We wish to respect and preserve their dignity.” You can help with the campaign either by finding the Penistone Christmas Dinner Hamper Project on Facebook or getting in touch with Look Local who can put you in touch with Jo.

Submit ideas for new Sheffield low-sugar cook book PEOPLE in Sheffield are invited to send in ideas and homemade recipes for a new low-sugar food book as part of a citywide initiative to reduce sugar levels in our diets. Let’s help ourselves, our children, our families and our city eat less sugar – we’re all sweet enough. That is the message behind Sheffield City Council’s ‘Sheffield is sweet enough’ campaign, a major public health initiative to help local families, schools and healthcare professionals tackle sugar consumption, to reduce tooth decay and obesity. As part of the campaign, which advocates for keeping our sugar intake low, contributions are being sought from the local community to feature in an exciting new low sugar foods and recipe book. Sheffield residents, businesses and community groups can send in their sugar free suggestions and homemade recipes to be included in ‘The Sheffield Family Guide to Smart Sugar Swaps’ being launched at the start of 2021. Anyone can get involved – from schools to parents, child minders, local businesses, restaurants and cafes. The idea is to create a rich catalogue of easy and affordable low-sugar recipes and smart sugar swaps, to help the city tackle the challenges of high sugar consumption and establish healthier eating habits. Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Leisure, and the city’s lead on the low sugar campaign, said: “We’re really excited to launch our low-sugar food book as part of the ‘Sheffield is Sweet Enough’ campaign. Our aim is to provide a fun, positive way to share easy, affordable recipes and sugar swaps. The idea is that this will be less of a traditional recipe book and more of a low sugar inspiration and education book, with top tips, help and advice for cutting back on sugar for all the family but still being able to enjoy tasty meals and snacks.
“We would love for the book to be created in partnership with our residents and want all our communities to get involved, from schools and parents, to local businesses large and small. We’d love to hear from anyone looking to be a part of this great initiative aimed at sharing the facts and helping the city make smarter, healthier choices in regard to food and drink.” The ‘Sheffield is Sweet Enough’ initiative was launched in February this year to provide information on the effects of too much sugar and the tools families need to make informed choices to support their health. It aims to help reduce tooth decay and obesity in Sheffield over the next five years. Research carried out in Sheffield shows that there is a lack of understanding about recommended daily sugar limits and how much sugar different foods contain. Sheffield City Council hopes that their new food book can help break down these barriers. The book will cover a number of sections that will be filled with tips, tricks and recipes, including: • Weaning – tips and recipes • Lunchboxes – keeping lunchboxes exciting • Snacking – smarter alternatives • Family meals / recipes – low sugar replacements Jessica Wilson from Sheffield City Council’s Public Health Team adds: “Too much sugar in our diets can contribute to tooth decay and obesity which both have massive impact on our health so it’s really important to build healthy habits in to family life. Sharing our knowledge and ideas with each other really helps and there are a number of ways businesses and individuals can get involved by sending in snack ideas, simple recipes or low sugar tips and replacement tricks. Our campaign is all about making sugar-
free alternatives easy and helping families to reduce their sugar intake. When it comes to ideas, the more the better.” Sheffield’s Sweet Enough is a campaign run by Sheffield City Council and partners to help local families, food businesses, schools and healthcare professionals tackle the harms caused by eating too much sugar. Together with partners, which include the NHS, Sheffield’s universities, and the voluntary sector – its aim is to share helpful facts, sugar swaps, tips and advice for all ages.
Businesses and individuals are invited to submit their recipes and ‘low-sugar’ ideas in the following ways by email - sarah.hydes@foundrycomms. co.uk or direct messages on Instagram @sheffieldissweetenough and Facebook – sheffieldissweetenough. Ideas must be submitted before Friday November 27. To find out more visit www.sheffieldissweetenough.org
Citizen Rain Project – measuring our rainfall HOW would you like to help to tackle water management by keeping a record of rainfall in your garden? The Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Partnership (SLLP) is coordinating a Citizen Rain Project – by supplying people in the area with rain gauges, they are asking you to help monitor how much rain we get and add evidence to help in controlling the flooding problems we all suffer from here in the hills and further down the Don valley. The SLLP has funding for three years or so to manage a wide range of projects with an emphasis on community involvement. The area covered by the SLLP stretches from Hunshelf Bank down to Redmires in the south, and from Bradfield Moors across
to the Don valley in the east, including 14 reservoirs in all. It takes its name from the bus tours that Sheffield Corporation used to run in the 1950s to our beautiful hills and valleys. The SLLP has made a short film about the Working With Water project, so if you’re interested in finding out more about the work going on in the Sheffield Lakeland area, please take a look: https:// vimeo.com/409783962 The aim in these days of more extreme climate is to manage water in the landscape, in order to reduce flood risk and improve water quality and wildlife habitats. So understanding the rainfall pattern in detail is all part of this. Having a gauge just involves you popping into the garden to record the rainfall each day and entering

gauge is showing we get more rain than in Sheffield. As more data is gathered the similarities and differences will become clearer.
It’s early days but they are excited by what they’re seeing - the weather has certainly been doing interesting things this year. The data shows a very wet February and incredibly dry period from mid March to June – though with a massive 70mm in late April, then we had wetter weather over the summer.
SLLP is still recruiting volunteers to have a rain gauge in all areas of the Sheffield Lakelands, but particularly want to fill some gaps in the data. If you would be interested in having a rain gauge, please get in touch with s.wood@wildsheffield.com. All data is useful and we’re looking for anyone in the SLLP area, but particularly anyone living around Mortimer Road, Wigtwizzle, Wharncliffe Side, Oughtibridge, Raynor Clough or Brightholmlee Road, Worrall, High Bradfield, Low Bradfield, Ughill and Grenoside.
We had another mega wet spell in late August, and then it was dry for a couple of weeks. We’ve also seen a chart showing ‘summary’ monthly data and comparing it with the official Met Office record for Sheffield – the Citizen Rain data follows the Met Office data closely, though my

Speculation has been gathering pace about their availability after proposed new rules in Poland preventing riders from having freedom of choice on other leagues they ride in. But club officials can confirm both high profile riders have told the club they want to be back to make up for losing the 2020 season. “There is a willingness for both riders to be with Sheffield next year,” said co-promoter Damien Bates. “Next spring is a long way off and there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before then.

“We are all hoping things fall into place so we can press the reset button back to last March and where we were ready for an exciting new era.” Popular Sheffield asset Zaine Kennedy is keen to get back to the UK for next season. Aussie ace Kennedy missed out on a team place for the 2020 season when Tigers gained promotion to the Premiership. Now he’s keen to get back and club bosses would like to see him fixed up with a team to expand his experience of UK tracks. He said: “I’ve have spoken to a couple of people but I’m open to offers and will listen to everything that’s on offer. “I feel as though I had a solid season with Sheffield last season in my first season in Europe. “It’s frustrating that my average went against me. I kind of got punished for doing so well I guess. “I’m over it now though and with no season in England this year due to the pandemic I haven’t really missed out on anything. “I’m as hungry as ever to succeed over there but want to concentrate on this weekend first.” Kennedy is racing in the Queensland 500c solo event this Saturday alongside current Tigers rider Josh Grajczonek. Also included are Leicester duo Nick Morris and Ryan Douglas and Poole rider Zane Keleher. Tigers bosses are continuing to plan towards next season with a proposed April start with hopes remaining that fans return to sporting venues on or around that time.
