This new route connects some of our most isolated communities and follows a long year campaign by Thurgoland Parish Council Public Transport Working Group, Miriam Cates MP and South Pennine Community Transport (SPCT) Director Kevin Carr.
The new service was officially launched at an outdoor event held at Cubley Hall and attended by campaigners, local councillors and a representative from South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. Speeches were made by Kevin Carr, Roy Harris from the Working Group, Thurgoland Parish Council Chairman Bob Blythe and Miriam Cates MP.
The Number 26 is a fully registered bus service and the timetable can be viewed on the SPCT website. Concessionary passes and TravelMaster are valid, cash and contactless payments are accepted and dogs travel free. The service runs from Monday to Friday, with a Saturday morning service offering a leisure route to Holmfirth.
Miriam Cates MP said: "This bus will offer an important public transport link to some of our more isolated communities, allowing local residents to access jobs, services and shops in Penistone and Stocksbridge. I’m proud to have been part of this community campaign and it was great to see the new buses on display and mark the years of work that is has taken to reach this point."
Kevin Carr from South Pennine Community Transport said: “The special event marked the launch of services 26 & 26A from Tuesday 4th May 2021. I want to thanks all those who attended, it was great to showcase our new services and the two brand new minibuses that have just joined our fleet."
