Yorkshire Champion 15 year-old wins Yorkshire XC Championship

Zak Ferguson, 15, won the U17s Yorkshire Cross Country Championship's on Saturday 9th January.

Zak finished the course in 18 min 7 secs, 4 seconds ahead of second place.

Zak currently runs for Rotherham Harriers and trains at Woodburn Road with coach John Wood.

The Yorkshire XC Championship's was held this year at Kiveton Park. The best young runners from across the county compete from clubs across the region.

Zak first started running at the age of 11 with Stocksbridge junior School when the PE teacher Mr Tee started taking the children to the Sheffield cross country races. Zak had never run before but came 12th in his first race came, and shortly after he took up running.

The youngster will have a busy schedule this year with training and racing in the north of England championships in February then Nationals champs in march with GCSEs crammed in at Penistone Grammar School.

CCTV released after theft from unconscious man in park A CCTV image has been released by police after a man who lost consciousness due to a "medical episode" in a Sheffield park had his jacket and bank card stolen. The victim, a 29-year-old man, was on a bench in Weston Park, Sheffield, on 30 December at about 18:00, according to South Yorkshire Police. While he was unconscious a man approached him and stole his jacket which contained his bank card. The card was then used at a number of shops in Sheffield. Officers say they believe the man pictured in the CCTV image might have information about the incident. If you can help, please call 101 quoting incident number 812 of 30 December.
