Missing dog found after 5 day search

A beloved family dog that went missing for five nights has ‘miraculously’ been reunited with its owners after what has been described as a ‘terrifying ordeal’. Harper, a two year old Bedlington Terrier had gone missing whilst on a walk with a home-stay. A report then came in that a dog had been hit in the fast lane of the M1 motorway, near Chapeltown and a dog had been seen running away after the incident. Harpers family, on holiday in Spain at the time, returned to help in the search for Harper. Natalie Adele, partner Paul and three children were worried sick about the welfare of Harper. However help was not far away and the community set out to find the missing dog.

The family from Ecclesfield had the help of their local community in the search and a local Animal response search team HART SAR. HART SAR deployed thermal cameras, drones and co-ordinated search teams. After 4 nights missing Harper was located in woods adjacent to the M1 motorway, however the 2 year old terrier was now in ‘survival mode’. Harper was unable to recognise its owners and instead of greeting the distressed family ran back into the woods. A trap was then set and with the help of a Morrison’s cooked chicken. Harper was lured into the trap, however the trap door was jammed and Harper escaped. Fortunately, Harper returned to the chicken for second helpings

and this time the trap door closed and the family was reunited with their beloved Terrier. Natalie, a primary school teacher at Ecclesfield Primary School told Look Local “ I’m so grateful to everyone that helped search for Harper, it really did show the good spirit in everyone and brought our community together to find Harper.” “I can’t believe we’ve got her back and she’s alive.” “She’s a little bit nervous, and no broken bones but we are so thankful to have her back” A fundraising page for HART SAR Animal response search team, can be found below, £5,000 has been raised already. www.gofund.me/b09bd0c1

PARENTS OF YOUNG WOMAN WHO Cemetery 'STARVED' TO DEATH IN HOSPITAL open day SAY 'NOTHING HAS CHANGED' Laura Jane Booth was just 21 years old when she died, following failings in her care at a Sheffield hospital. The family of a young Sheffield woman who "starved to death" under the care of staff at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital have said that "nothing has changed" in the six years since her death. Laura Jane Booth was just 21 years old when she died as a result of malnourishment, following a three-week stay at the Hallamshire Hospital, in Sheffield. An inquest into Laura's death found that there had been a "gross failure of her care", in relation to the inadequate management of her feeding.

Until recently, historic Loxley Cemetery was overgrown and almost forgotten. Now, looking increasingly lovely after decades of neglect, you are invited to come and see how it has been transformed by a dedicated band of volunteers. The volunteers will proudly show off their work on their first Open Day on Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May 2022 from 10am to 4pm.

Laura had been born with a rare genetic condition known as Patau's syndrome, which meant that she possessed three copies of chromosome 13, instead of two.

Their are guided tours at 11am and 2pm and you can meet the volunteers who are working hard to clear the overgrown graves and footpaths. There will be help if you wish to find your relatives' graves.

The condition severely disrupted Laura's development and the young woman lived with a number of complex learning disabilities and she was also non-verbal.

The Cemetery can be accessed from the Long Lane or Loxley Road entrances and the post code is S6 6RL (parking is available at both entrances but easier from Loxley Road). For more details contact the Friends of Loxley Cemetery on 07879075619.

Breast reductions on the rise More British women are considering breast reductions than ever before, with downsizing operations closing the gap on augmentations and implants, reveals consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon Ms Lucy Khan.

Reductions now make up 40% of all breast operations – with the proportion up by a quarter in three years, reveals the latest Baaps data. High profile celebrities having the operation in recent years include former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona, Apprentice star Luisa Zissman, and Love Island model Megan Barton Hanson. Other patients include Modern Family star Ariel Winter and former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep. The trend accompanies a large fall in the popularity of breast implants, with operations dropping 38% since they peaked in 2013.

The rise is attributed to older women finally taking care of an issue that has been troubling them for years. Ms Lucy Khan said: “We’ve seen a significant rise in the number of women approaching us for a breast reduction, and it’s an operation that many of them have put off for a long time.

The end of an era of blame - The new “No-Fault Divorce” Law explained

A divorce can be one of the most challenging times in anyone’s life. It can have a significant impact on the whole family, especially where children are concerned. Once the difficult decision has been reached most people would like matters to be concluded as amicably and quickly as possible. However, the old law often made that difficult to achieve. Most family lawyers would agree the old legislation governing divorce in England and Wales was quite outdated and was in desperate need of reform for many years. Previously to get divorced parties had to prove one ground which was that “the marriage had irretrievably broken down”. To do that the parties had to rely on one of five facts: Adultery, Unreasonable behaviour, Desertion, 2 years separation (with the other parties’ consent) or 5 years separation. The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 (DDSA 2020) which came into law on 1 April 2022 and came into ef-

fect on 6 April 2022, aims to make divorce an easier process for both parties and less acrimonious by relying on what is commonly known as a ‘no fault divorce’. This new legislation completely removes the need to assign blame when commencing divorce proceedings. Therefore, parties no longer have to rely on one of the five facts, they must simply state the marriage has irretrievably broken down.

This means that it is extremely difficult for a party to defend the proceedings once issued. The only grounds for doing so are on the basis that the Courts in England and Wales do not have jurisdiction to deal with the divorce or that the marriage was never legally valid. Parties can now also make an application for divorce on their own or jointly with their spouse. However, parties can no longer freely request the other party meet their costs in the divorce proceedings, and the minimum time to finalise a divorce is now 26 weeks. Previously

an uncontested divorce where the respondent co-operated could be concluded as early as 3 months. Parties will still need to decide how to divide their assets (i.e. the family home, savings, pensions and other assets) and there may also be issues regarding children such as where they live and what time they spend with each parent. An experienced family lawyer can help parties navigate some of the pitfalls which still exist when divorcing particularly when there are complications surrounding the fair division of matrimonial assets, and or considerations of the children of the family. Fox Valley looks to a Sustainable Future

Boundary walk Penistone Ladies Circle is excited to announce Penistone Boundary Walk will take place during the month of May 2022 to help raise funds for The Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes. The Whiteknights are an emergency voluntary service that provides the NHS a free of charge urgent out of hours transportation service. They work with hospitals in South, West and North Yorkshire. The event invites previous and new walkers to complete the Penistone Boundary Walk any day in the month of May. The walk is a 16 or 8 mile walk (or run!) around the boundary of the historic market town of Penistone, starting and finishing at Cubley Hall. A map and narrative of the route can be found at www.penistoneboundarywalk.co.uk

Fox Valley is stepping up its sustainability program with a six figure investment in green initiatives around the centre. Within the investment, the popular retail destination has purchased two new cardboard/ polythene balers to enable more waste to be recycled and repurposed. In addition to this, the centre has installed Instavolt charging points within the car park, LED motion-timed lighting within units and also introduced solar panels across all buildings. Claire Reynolds, Centre Manager at Fox Valley, said: “Driving sustainability and becom-

ing a green centre is a key priority for us here at Fox Valley. “The two additional balers we’ve introduced, will allow our destination and its retailers to recycle up to one tonne of cardboard each month, which will be taken away and repurposed by our recycling partner. “Our retailers are laser-focused upon delivering upon their own green objectives and it's crucial that we support them in this.” Retailers include Sandersons Boutique Store who prides itself on stocking high quality sustainable fashion pieces which are made to last, Aldi who has committed to halving its

plastic footprint by 2025 and Seasalt Cornwall who have pledged to be carbon net zero by 2040. Claire added: “This investment isn’t the end of what we’re doing at Fox Valley. Becoming sustainable and sharing best practice with our customers and tenants is a key focus as we continue to develop and grow as a centre.” The news comes after a number of lease renewals at Fox Valley which has seen Fit20, Fox Valley Car Wash and The Works - hers and sirs show their commitment to the centre for years to come. Sheffield’s Young Artists

The city’s creative talent of the future were invited to Sheffield Town Hall to receive personal praise from Deputy Lord Mayor of Sheffield, recently. Prize winners from this year’s Young Artists competition - the UK’s largest annual art competition for school children – lined up with organisers and sponsors at a special reception. Their work is about to take pride of place at this month's Sheffield Young Artists Exhibition which will be held at Norfolk Street’s Central United Reformed Church this Friday and Saturday, 29th and 30th of April.

The event – which has had a two year absence due to Covid - will see up to 650 pieces of art on display. The event, organised by Sheffield Abbeydale Rotary, invites entries from school children aged 5 to 18 from schools right across the city. The exhibition weekend is the culmination of the Sheffield Young Artists programme. The competition first took place in 2005. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield will open the exhibition and present the awards on Friday, April 29th at 10am.

Peter Clark, managing partner, said: “We are delighted to see the event finally happen after all this time. There is so much talent amongst the young people of Sheffield and it’s going to be wonderful to see so much of it going on display this weekend.” Though the Sheffield Young Artists competition has continued over the past two years Covid restrictions have meant the full exhibition has been unable to take place. Smaller displays took place at both Art in the Gardens and the Great Sheffield Art Show.

tion for a similar event in Bochum, Germany, which takes place next month. Ken Marshall, Chris Jones and Steve Walker will represent Sheffield Abbeydale Rotary at the opening of the exhibition.

Sheffield Young Artists exhibition runs from 10am until 7pm on Friday, April 29th and from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, April 30th. Entrance is £1 for adults and free for 18 years and under.

Ken Marshall, who organises Sheffield Young Artists on behalf of Sheffield Abbeydale Rotary, said: “Though we’ve had a very frustrating two years caused by Covid there have been two bits of very good news – the continued support of Graysons as our sponsor and spreading our influence to Germany! We have worked together with the Bochum Renaissance Rotary Club who have adopted our format and will be holding their first Young Artists exhibition in early May.”

Graysons Solicitors, which originally formed in 1925, has a keen interest in local culture and has been the main sponsor of the city’s celebrated Art In The Gardens event for the past three years. How to beat Str8ts – Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. These QHHG WR EH ¿OOHG LQ ZLWK QXPEHUV WKDW complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set of numbers with no gaps but can be in any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Sheffield is the Hillsborough Barracks: Historic leading core city former barracks could be turned for flu vaccinations into apartments rates, according to recent figures NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Medical Director has thanked Sheffielders for getting their flu jab as the area is announced as the leading core city for delivering the vaccine. This comes after more than 85% of 65-year-olds or above in Sheffield received their flu jab in the last year – beating all other core cities in the vaccine uptake. Sheffield also leads for under 65-year-olds who are clinically at risk as 55% of the group have been protected against flu. The city also paves the way in children rates, with more than 50% of 2-3-year-old youngsters having flu protection. It’s easy for us to pass on flu viruses without knowing. However, the flu virus kills almost 11,000 people and hospitalises tens of thousands more in England in an average year. It’s more important than ever to get your flu jab this coming autumn. Vaccinations prevent hospital admissions, serious illness, and death from flu viruses. We can all reduce the risk of spreading the virus by getting vaccinated. Dr Zak McMurray, Sheffield GP and Medical Director at NHS Sheffield CCG, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our Primary Care staff who have been working tirelessly to administer thousands of flu vaccines across Sheffield. “Thank you to Sheffielders for protecting yourself and your loved ones from the flu virus. It’s thanks to you that we, as a city, are the most vaccinated core city in England. “Vaccines are the best way to protect yourself, friends and family from these dangerous viruses. I know first-hand that lots of patients, especially those clinically vulnerable, can have major health problems when contracting the flu virus and that’s why it’s vital that you get yourself jabbed.” “Primary Care have gone above and beyond to get the word out to communities all over Sheffield. As a city we should be really proud at how effective we have been in getting jabs in arms and I hope that enthusiasm is continued going forward.”

Stunning former barracks in Sheffield could be converted into new houses and apartments, writes Lucy Ashton for The Yorkshire Post. Hillsborough Barracks on Langsett Road in Sheffield could be changed from offices into two six-bedroom houses and six one and two bedroom apartments. SLA Design Planning, on behalf of West Bar Property Rentals, says in an application: “The proposal involves the reconfiguration and fitting out the current shell units in the existing property.

built in response to anxiety over civil unrest, though not a defensible barracks like Fulwood, Preston. “It was one of the first barracks planned with the reformed ideas on military accommodation developing before the Crimean War, to include schools and institutes. Also it is one of the earliest instances of a historicist, castellated style applied to barracks, following its contextual use in the Tower of London. “Despite conversion, much of the original site survives including, barracks, stables, riding school, magazine and guard house. The existing building was the former head office of SIG. The development seeks to change the use of a section of the building into two six bedroom houses and six one and two bedroom apartments.”

The application says the building has undergone extensive refurbishment and re-modelling since its construction and little to no original features can be found inside other than the positioning of original wall and staircases. The staircase would remain and there would be no changes to the scale of the building, no extensions or demolitions. The changes have been kept to a minimum to respect and preserve the character and design of the building’s appearance.

Almost half (48%) of Brits say missing out on their morning cup of tea sends day to pot. As a nation that has given tea its own national day, 21st April, Brits are renowned for taking their brews seriously. However, new research commissioned by British plant-based milk brand MIGHTY, has shown just how seriously; with almost half (48%) of us saying that missing out on our morning brew determines whether the day goes to plan or to pot. A fun packed afternoon of Musical Memories saw Ritchie Mac making his inaugural performance at the Venue. We had lots of new faces and we were especially pleased to welcome back residents from Alpine Lodge on their first outing since lockdown. A good time was had by all

The research also uncovered that “tea fear” is a very real phobia with four in ten of us left feeling anxious about friends, family or colleagues making a brew just in case we don’t like it. This is made even more bamboozling for tea makers, with more than

“Being from Yorkshire, it’s no surprise that the course of a day depends on the perfect morning brew. It’s one of the most guarded bastions of our daily routine. Over the past 12 months we’ve developed our new M.lkology whole plant-milk to make it perfect for tea. You won’t taste the difference and its much kinder to the planet. Just don’t put the milk in first!” So, what are the biggest crimes against tea and how can you fight the fear? For starters, serving it up in a cup instead of a mug is a major faux

THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE IS UK’S Gardening Column -May FAVOURITE HARRY POTTER MOVIE • DRAGONS VOTED THE NATION’S FAVOURITE FANTASTIC BEAST • ALAN RICKMAN CROWNED THE NUMBER ONE ACTOR FROM THE FRANCHISE • OVER ONE IN TEN FILM FANS VOTE HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE AS THEIR FAVOURITE FILM FROM THE WIZARDING WORLD SERIES Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the UK’s favourite Harry Potter movie, according to new national research released today. The study, carried out by Showcase Cinemas to celebrate the release of the UK’s number 1 film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, also sees the character Harry Potter take over 1 in 10 of the votes (13%), as participants elected the bespectacled hero their favourite character from the wizarding world films. Intelligent sidekick Hermione Grainger landed in second place (10%) and the ever-faithful house-elf Dobby (8%) finished in third, with the likes of Rubeus Hagrid, Albus Dumbledore, Ron Weasley and Fantastic Beasts’ protagonist Newt Scamander missing out on the top three. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (13%) only narrowly took the crown as the nation’s favourite film from the wizarding franchise, as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban came in closely behind (12%), with almost one in five men preferring the third instalment and 16% of women opting for the first introduction to the wizarding world as their favourite.

Students get a flavour of all-things catering and hospitality

SIMPLE VEG FOR THE SUMMER May is the month when everything gets busy in the garden and even the most relaxed of gardeners become inspired. Plant growth is steaming ahead with seeds germinating, plants and shrubs bursting into flower and annual weeds popping up. It’s also a time to think about introducing some edible plants into your garden and there are plenty of easy ways to enjoy full-flavoured crops, even when space is tight. For novice gardeners, focus on herbs. It doesn’t take long to grow herbs from seed, and if you get sowing now then you will have them to enjoy throughout the summer. Parsley, coriander and dill can all be sown direct in the soil this month and you will be able to harvest them from July onwards. Basil is best sown indoors in pots, but again you will be able to take your pick of its leaves from July.

Barnsley College Catering and Hospitality students heard from a range of guest speakers as part of Catering and Hospitality Industry Week. The talks allowed students to explore potential careers within the sector, whilst developing the skills they need for Higher Education or employment. Delifresh, a catering food and drink supplier, kicked off the week with a veggiecation session - an inspirational talk on how passionate the company is about fresh produce, dairy, cheese and speciality flavours, and how they deliver into kitchens across the North. They also promoted the many positives that eating and using fresh produce can provide. The main activity of the week was a gripping interactive session with Richard Punshon, owner of the Dog and Partridge restaurant and accommodation in Flouch, Sheffield. During this workshop students created venison salami and chorizo whilst discussing his career at The Savoy Hotel in London and the Army.

Richard said: “I am here to show students how easy it is to make fresh produce yourself, rather than products that are mass produced. My piece of advice to students is to keep your passion for the industry. It was a pleasure to talk to the Catering and Hospitality students at Barnsley College.” Students also heard from Adam Smith, The Real Junk Food Project founder, who shared his experience in developing an organisation that uses food that would otherwise have been discarded from supermarkets, restaurants, and other independent food suppliers to produce meals that are sold on a pay what you want basis. Alex Hollinworth, Owner and Photographer at Alex Hollinworth Photography, shared with the students how to take the perfect foodie pictures. Alex discussed angles and lighting with the students as well as demonstrated how to stage the perfect picture using a mobile phone.

Catering and Hospitality students also attended The Public Sector Catering Expo, where they had the chance to see dishes prepared, taste them and talk to the chefs behind them. The exhibition included of over 100 suppliers with a lively seminar programme and interactive demonstrations hosted by TV’s Dr Rupy Aujla. Throughout the week the students also attended career inspired sessions intended to showcase the wide range of job prospects available within the industry including pig butchery, food styling, Tunnock’s Teacake challenge, calorie counting, chocolate masterclass, fine dining and cocktail masterclass. The sessions were organised by Martyn Hollingsworth, Catering and Hospitality Curriculum Leader at Barnsley College. Martyn commented: “Industry Week has been a great success with some brilliant guest experts demonstrating their skills and explaining their careers.

If you have a semi-shaded spot in your garden you could try growing a selection of cut-and-comeagain salad leaves. Not only delicious to eat, they will save you having to buy bags of salad from the supermarket – which means you will also be cutting down on plastic packaging. If you are going to grow them in a container pick one that is approximately 30cm wide or larger. Try mizuna loose-leaved lettuce, rocket or endive. You can also sow pak choi, Swiss chard and beetroot to harvest their colourful, tasty leaves. Once the salad leaves are 10cm tall – which will be in about three to four weeks – snip them off with scissors to just above ground level and they will re-sprout for a second or third time. If you give them some liquid plant food after each harvest they will re-grow more rapidly. Dwarf French Beans is the veg that keeps on giving during the summer months. As long as you pick them as soon as they are ready they will keep on cropping all summer long. They need good

fertile soil, so make sure you dig in some compost, and climbing varieties need canes for support. Young plants can be planted out end of May or you can sow seeds now directly into the soil where you want them to grow, at 20cm intervals. Water the soil when it gets dry and if you sow a second batch next month you can alternate picking beans between the two all summer. If you’re new to growing vegetables, beetroot is a good, easyto-grow option. The seeds don’t need much encouragement to germinate and they require little maintenance once established. Being a root crop, beetroot does best if the soil is free of large stones. The same is true of carrots. If you want carrots with plenty of flavour, it’s definitely worth growing your own. Both beetroot and carrot seeds tend to germinate within a couple of weeks and you should be harvesting fresh beetroot in 8-10 weeks and carrots in 14-16 weeks. Finally, for a touch of colour try some edible flowers - they can be grown from seed and are easy to sow. Nasturtiums seeds are simply pushed straight into soil in spring or summer and the flowers taste a touch peppery. Pot Marigolds are also sown at this time of year and their orange flowers have a zingy citrus flavour. As the RHS says … as bulbs fade and herbaceous borders grow in leaps and bounds, it is now clear that summer is approaching. Sowing and planting out bedding can begin, depending on regional weather variations, and you can take softwood cuttings. It's also time to get back into the lawn mowing regime, as the lawn will be loving the warmer temperatures this month brings. Top three jobs this month – watch out for late frosts and protect tender plants, earth up potatoes and plant any that you might still have and plant out summer bedding at the end of the moth (except in cold areas).

Ladies Progress in Golf Qualifier Stocksbridge Ladies golfers Alison Sedgwick and Liana O'Sullivan have made it past the second round of the regional qualifiers for the Daily Mail Ladies Foursomes. Alison and Liana won this round against a pair from Lees Hall Golf Club and won comfortably 4 and 3 in the match play format. The game was evenly poised after 9 holes, then the Stcoksbridge ladies upped their game to win several holes and close the game out. At Stocksbridge Golf Club, it has been a busy week of competitions. Easter Monday saw Danny Costello (1) win the Pro's Prize with 39 points, a round that included 5 birdies. Ash Howe (5) was second with 37 points, the same score as Ian Batty (16), but with a better back 9. The Dragons Section of the Club competed in its first Seniors match of the summer season, playing at home against Roundwood Golf Club from Rawmarsh, on 19 April. It was a closely fought match, with Dragons winning by 195-189 points. Their next match is in two weeks away to Silkstone GC.

The Club was busy on the same day with a Bandits Society match in the afternoon. Eric Wilkinson was the overall winner with 39 points. Pete Westhead was second with 37 points. Then Luke Wilson and Julian Wilkinson both finished on 36 points, with Luke taking third on countback. The Dragons April Monthly Medal leader board was dominated by Division 2 players. Alf Pearson (28) won with a net 67. Horace Boothroyd (22) was second with a net 68, the same score as Charlie Dale (24), but with a better back 9. Division 1 was won by Steven Haigh (14) with a net 71. Martyn Bradwell (17), Dave Jones (16) and Sandy Murphy (14) all finished with net 72s, Martyn and Dave took second and third respectively on countback. Thursday 21 April MidWeek Pro's Prize was won by Malcolm Ingles (17) with 40 points. Warren Oliver (12) was second with 39 points and Nasser Hassan (20) was third with 37 points. Les Wright (14) also scored 37 points but lost out on the back 9 score to Nasser.

On Saturday 23 April, the Gents played the annual regional qualifiers for the SUGC JH Aitchison Trophy. The format is a pairs better ball Stableford, with players limited to an 18stroke handicap. Steve Cain and Glynn Stainforth were the overall winners with 42 points. Pete Westhead and Jonathan Bradley were second with 41 points. Lee Hydes and Simon Homer were third with 41 points as well, but a lower back 9 total. The SUGC regional tournament will take place later in the year. Nasser Hassan (20) continued his good form winning the Sunday Pro's Prize on 24 April, with a Stableford score of 38 points. Pete Mannion (18) was second with 36 points, followed by Dave Buxton (10) on 34 points. Finally, the Ladies 9-hole mid-week Stableford was won by Ann Whitfield (14) with 15 points. Runners take on Marathon

John Lawcock and Poppy Tovey (Boston MarGareth Irvine (Blackpool Marathon) athon)

Three Penistone runners took on marathons in recent days. John Lawcock and Poppy Tovey made the trip to Lincolnshire to take part in the Boston Marathon. John completed the 26.2 miles in under four hours clocking 3-5509 which was a PB. In her very first race at the distance Poppy completed the marathon in 4-15-36 in warm conditions. Gareth Irvine made the trip to Lancashire to take part in the Blackpool Marathon. Gareth just missed out on getting under three hours with a time of 3-0115. This gave Gareth 17th place overall and 6th in the men’s over40 category. Dawn Broom claimed first place in her over55 age category at the Even Splits York 5k series in a time of 21-57. Graihagh Turner competed in the Black Combe junior fell running championships where she placed 4th in the under15 girls. Penistone runner Steve Owen took on a sprint distance triathlon which involved a 400m swim, a 15 mile bike ride and a 3.8 mile run. Steve placed 5th

With no fixtures during April, the Fox Catering Man of Steel for the Month will not now be awarded, &

the overall winner will be announced at the forthcoming Club Presentation Dinner on Friday 13th May. There is limited ticket availability, as the event is close to a sell out with former England International Jeff Probyn & award winning funny man Lea Roberts proving to be a popular choice as the entertainment. So get in quick if you still haven’t reserved your place !

The club’s junior section enjoyed their end of season mini tour to the East Coast to play Driffield at the weekend & despite an encouraging & spirited performance came away on the wrong end of a 37pts to 14pts scoreline. It was a fairly evenly matched contest however, the er-

Disappointing end to season

Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby were forced to forfeit their 3rd game in a row at the weekend, as injuries continued to rob the squad of enough players to fulfil their fixture. York RI will now be awarded a ‘home walk over’ & the points, which is ironic as it’s the replay of the fixture York RI originally conceded at Coal Pit Lane. This disappointing end to the season also sees Head Coach Andy Tyers step down from his role, & the club will look for alternate coaching options before pre-season training begins again in July.

ror count by the visitors proved the difference. 19 nil down at half time, Stocksbridge Youth rallied with tries by George Robins excellently converted by Jack Leary, & a superb effort from flying Finn Dodsworth outflanking 5 home defenders to touch down for skipper Aaron Kaye to convert. The club will be hoping some of these promising & talented youngsters find their way into the Senior XV’s for next season, as some have already taken part in the adult coaching programme.
