Heavyweight World Champion Tyson Fury showed his support to the hospital at the beginning of last year during our '21 years of Jessops' appeal, as a thank you for the care his son Prince received there when he was a baby. The Gypsy King was accompanied on the visit by his dad, John and son Prince, now aged 10. During the visit Tyson had a chance to meet local artist, Lynn Hollingsworth, who with help of funding from the charity, is transforming the Unit for families. Tyson was taken on a tour of the Unit by Matron Claire Howard and Family Support Sister Rebecca Tazzyman and spent a long time chatting to various families and staff. Tyson Fury said about the visit “It is truly amazing the work done by the team at Jessops, I would like to thank all of them for their hard work and dedication. Former BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration MBE has died, aged 71, writes Rachael Hesno.
In 2013, he was appointed MBE and in 2019, became deputy lieutenant of North Yorkshire.
Celebrities, colleagues, viewers and friends paid tribute to the TV star after the news was announced in an emotional statement at the end of Friday’s show by his former co-presenter Amy Garcia, who worked with him for seven years on the programme.
“As we close the programme tonight, I have some very sad news to share with you all. Our much loved friend and colleague Harry Gration very suddenly died today. We all at Look North are absolutely devastated to give you this news,” said Amy Garcia on Friday’s show.
Gration leaves behind six children and his wife, Helen. He joined the BBC in 1978 and fronted the Yorkshire programme through two stints from 1982 until he announced his departure from the BBC at the end of 2020. He was one of Britain’s longest-serving regional TV news hosts, hailed as “Mr Yorkshire” in numerous tributes.
“Goodnight Mr Yorkshire. The best co-presenter I ever shared a sofa with,” said one social media post tribute from one of his former co-presenters on the show, Charlotte Leeming.

Phil Lamb, age 36 is attempting to run two 10k races and host a race night to reach his target of £1000.
I’m also supporting MacMillan because my wife’s mum tragically lost her battle with cancer in March 2020 and supporting such an important cause means a lot to Sadie and all her family.
Phil told Look Local “My little girl Emilie is part of Stocksbridge Gymnastics Club who are a community club and are in need of funds to buy new equipment. Over the last few months i have seen first hand what an amazing club Heather and all her girls run for our children and all the hard work that is put in to allow the children to train and compete.
The banking Adviser ran the Hull 10k last weekend raising over £600, he has the Sheffield 10k later this year to reach his target of £1000. With this in mind I decided I would run the Hull 10k which was on June 12th.
I will also be running the Sheffield 10k at the end of September to try and raise as much money as i can for the Gymnastics

Food Waste ‘DON’T STOP ME NOW!’ Trial coming to Sheffield A Sheffield Food Waste Collections trial is set to begin in the city after Labour councillors on the Waste and Streetscene policy committee unanimously supported the plans. As a result, several areas of the city will receive letters and bins from Veolia shortly. The Food Waste trial will take place over 12 weeks with a separate food waste collection for approximately 8,000 households. The trial will test real-life experience of operating food waste collections in Sheffield and help plan a permanent food waste collection service across the city. UK households waste around 6.5 million tonnes of food each year. In 2019, sampling showed that an average of 33% of the contents of Sheffield’s black bins are made up of food waste. All households within the trial area will receive a 23L caddy, a 5L internal caddy and a roll of 52 recycled, biodegradable plastic caddy liners. Households will be asked to place the plastic liner inside their internal caddy (ordinarily stored in the kitchen) into which they will place their food waste. Once the internal caddy is full or when collection is due, the household will tie the liner and
place it inside their 23L external caddy in readiness for collection by Veolia. Rock Choir is already well known for performing the largest flash mob in London where 10,000 Rock Choir Members unveiled themselves in the crowd at the 2019 BBC Radio 2 Proms in the Park in Hyde Park. The Rock Choir members come from all walks of life and from all different backgrounds and professions. They represent the diverse and passionate Great British Public including key workers, NHS staff, carers, service providers, students and the retired. As a much-loved British household brand and the original and leading contemporary choir in the UK, Rock Choir is thrilled to help the UK celebrate this historic milestone of the
Platinum Jubilee with its 70 flash mob events. The experience will not only provide an opportunity for the Rock Choir members to celebrate and take part but it will also provide music, joy and entertainment for the public, helping to create the ultimate feelgood vibe to help the nation get up and ‘dance in the street’ with them. Caroline Redman Lusher, Creator and Creative Director of Rock Choir comments: “We are delighted to take part in the celebrations doing what we do best; bringing communities together, performing, singing and marking this significant and joyous occasion with the ultimate feel-good performance of a flash mob! It’s an exhilarating experience for the members to take part in and it will create special memories which will last a lifetime. It also brings the Great British Public together who are invited to support and share in the fun with us. Yorkshire debut for 13 year old Sheffield youngster dubbed ‘the Yorkshire Ben Stokes’ stars on county debut
loves it, he lives and breathes cricket and is totally obsessed with it.
A Sheffield youngster calling himself the Yorkshire Ben Stokes could be one to watch after starring on his county debut, writes By Steve Jones for the Sheffield Star.
"If he can be managed right, he’s definitely one to watch.”
Ecclesfield School pupil Charlie Taylor took four wickets in a Roses Match for Yorkshire under-13s against Lancashire last week. The 13-year-old all-rounder from Shiregreen has already featured twice for Thorpe Hesley & High Green Cricket Club’s first team this season and has averaged 39 runs in each of his five innings for the second XI. Proud dad and Thorpe Hesley & High Green Cricket Club chairman Richard said: "He
Charlie dreams of turning professional and is currently on Yorkshire’s Pathways to Cricket Excellence programme, which helps talented young cricketers reach their potential through top coaching. Richard added: "On his day he’s class. I’m just trying to keep his feet on the ground. “He’s got a great character, he’s a cheeky lad but well-mannered and really nice – just a typical boy.” Charlie’s best performance in senior cricket saw him take five for 28 and score 70 runs against Whitley Hall, who he repre-
sents at junior level, earlier this month. Richard continued: “He calls himself the Yorkshire Ben Stokes; he’s got ginger hair, opens the bowling and is a lefthanded batsman mid-order.” Richard also plays for Thorpe Hesley & High Green and has played alongside and against Charlie and his brother Harry, 15. “It’s quite competitive,” he said.
”I got Charlie out, he was quite upset.” Yorkshire’s under-13s will play Warwickshire at Thorpe Hesley & High Green Cricket Club next Sunday.

A cross-curriculum trip to London is planned for 2023 with English Language, English Language and Media Studies students coming on board.
The three-day trip to the capital allowed the A Level students to expand their knowledge in either art, drama or film by taking part in workshops and visiting key locations relating to each genre. Art and Design students visited several art galleries and exhibitions including Tate Modern, The National Gallery, Francis Bacon and Late Constable. Alongside viewing the different artistic styles, they also took pho-

Unique Egyptian Exhibition to Mark 100 Years Since Discovery of Tutankhamen’s Tomb These are being loaned by Bolton Museum’s renowned Egyptian collection, first assembled by curators William and Thomas Midgley whose family came from Cawthorne, Barnsley.
With this year marking the centenary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen in 1922, Barnsley is set to celebrate with a unique exhibition. A new exhibition, TUT22: from Cradle to Grave, will open at Experience Barnsley in October to reveal why this part of Yorkshire is such an important ancient Egyptian outpost. Curated by Barnsley-born Egyptologist Prof Joann Fletcher, and over two years in the planning, ‘TUT22: from Cradle to Grave’ explores Tutankhamen’s life during the 14th century BC. The exhibition will blend traditional artefacts with mesmerising new technologies to lift the lid on the greatest archaeological discovery of all time. It will also tell the story of local people involved in the rediscovery of the famous ‘boy king’. “We’ll be resurrecting the world of Tutankhamen using artefacts from Amarna, the city where he was born and raised,” explained Joann.
Focusing on Tutankhamen’s birthplace, the exhibition features more than 250 ancient artefacts, including some never displayed before.
The exhibition also incorporates the work of Barnsley-born artist-turned-archaeologist Harold Jones, whose excavations in the Valley of the Kings uncovered some of the first clues to the location of Tutankhamen’s tomb which was eventually discovered by Jones’ friends Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter. Jones, Carter and the Midgleys also share links to the artists and antiquarians within the SpencerStanhope family of Barnsley’s Cannon Hall. Finds made by the Egypt Exploration Society and sent to Bolton under the stewardship of the Midgleys, the first curators of Bolton Museum, will be showcased as part of the exhibition. “We’ll be combining digital technology and the results of scientific research to really bring the world of Tutankhamen back to life,” added Joann. “This collaboration between Bolton Museum and Barnsley Museums is unique. “There are incredible links to Barnsley and stories that have never been told. It’s a local history story as well as an international story and it really will help us mark the centenary in a very special way.” More details about TUT22: from Cradle to Grave, which will run from October 22 to March 18 2023, will be shared later this summer. 'Bottle Green Knickers With Pockets - Growing up in 1950s Sheffield' is a nostalgic trip through the 1950s. Often seemingly a more gentle time, although with non of the creature comforts that we take for granted today, it can be viewed by many people as

Sheffield City Council and the city’s two universities have teamed up on the innovative project to promote Sheffield’s individual personality which makes it unlike any other major city in the UK. With its unusual combination of industrial heritage and expansive green space, a vibrant city centre on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and a renowned music scene coupled with a historic theatre quarter, it has something for everyone – yet many people outside the Sheffield postcode are unaware of everything it has to offer. Stunning Score Wins Texas Scramble
Stocksbridge golfers Sandy Murphy, Doug Needham, Bill Boucher and Tony Peers managed a quite remarkable net 48 in a Texas Scramble format competition on 25 June. In the strokeplay format, teams do get a small fraction of their combined handicaps and for the four winning players they received an allowance of 15 shots. They came in with 5 birdies, 11 pars and only two dropped shots in their gross score. The low scoring continued with the secondplace group of Pete Westhead, Jon Bryan, Nick Broomhead and Jonathan Bradley. With a handicap allowance of 10 shots, they came in with a net 49. Three groups came in with 51 shots net, but Sedgwicks Ian, Matt and
Joe with Ash Jowitt took third place on countback. Matt's contribution was perhaps all the more remarkable given that he had just completed the 10 round challenge for charity the day before. Earlier in the week the Dragons League Team played away to the Grange Golf Club. The team were successful overall, winning by an aggregate score of 280 to 267 points. Scoring by each pairing was very high, ranging from 42 to 50 points for each of the Stocksbridge players.
The next day, the Dragons played for the John Yeates Post Office Trophy, a Stableford format. Sandy Murphy (15) completed the first of his two victories in the week with 39 points. Stuart Roebuck (22) and Mick Bellamy
(21) took second and third place, both with 39 points as well, but losing out to Sandy on countback. The Ladies mid-week 9-hole challenge was won by Margaret Pearson (16) with an impressive 21 points. Sam Wood (20) was second, also with 21 points, but losing out to Margaret on countback. Teri Moffett (15) was third with 20 points. Lastly, the Gents competed for a Pro's Prize mid-week Stableford. It was won by Trevor Mosely (10) with an excellent 41 points, a round that included three birdies on the front 9. Mick Hulbert (11) came second, also with 41 points, but losing out to Trevor on countback. Chris Naylor (9) was third with 40 points.

Reports from this weekend’s cricket games!
Barnsley Woolley Miners 144 all out (A Hibbert 4-23, J Hibbert 4-26) Stocksbridge 1st XI 146-4 (B Cherry 47, J Murfin 35, A Hirst 24).
the middle overs. Andy Hibbert came back into the attack and picked up the last four wickets to leave Barnsley bowled out for 144.
Openers Ben Cherry took to the crease and the pair got off to a flyer. Price hitting the first ball of innings for four, Cherry backed that up hitting his first two balls for four. Price was cleaned bowled shortly later for 8. However, Cherry continued his great form and looked in superb touch. The Barnsley bowlers didn’t really have an answer and Cherry was the difference in the early stages of the innings. He was removed for 47, three short of a well-deserved 50. Andy Hirst came in and anchored the innings superbly and showed his experience. Jack Murfin was the main destructor though as he hit 35, which included four sixes. This took the 1st XI over the line with 6 wickets to spare. Hirst finished on a well-made 24. The 1st XI entertain Silkstone at Bracken Moor Saturday, then make the short trip Sunday to face Oughtibridge in the semi-final of the Presidents Trophy. Stocksbridge 2nd XI 114 all out vs Wath 3rd XI 162 all out.
The 1st XI welcomed Barnsley Woolley Miners to Lucas Wheels Bracken Moor, looking to make it 8 wins from 8 and keep up their great form. Barnsley won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision the 1st XI we’re very happy with. Rich Marsden struck in his first over, after a good one handed catch from Joe Hibbert. The 1st were off to a flyer. Marsden struck again removing the dangerous Barnsley captain. Andy Hibbert also claimed a wicket to leave the score 43-3. A little partnership was forming for Barnsley however Joe Hibbert was into the attack and began to get into his work. He picked up four wickets in his spell to keep the 1st XI on top of the game in
Stocksbridge travelled to nearby Bradfield for a neutral venue tie vs Wath 3rd XI. Wath won the toss and elected to bat first. Wath started well, with a couple of early boundaries propelling them on their way. Stocksbridge eventually found a breakthrough, with young opening bowler Rowan Brearley taking a sharp caught and bowled. Cal Haywood then came into the attack and continued his fine form. Haywood claimed 2 quick wickets, before Brearley claimed another victim. In a quick turn of events, Wath had crumbed to 56-6 and Stocksbridge were looking to wrap up the innings. Some slack fielding, dropped catches and some good late hitting by Wath's lower order, resurrected their innings and Wath were eventually bowled out for 162. 3 wickets for Cal Haywood, 2 each for Chris Thwaites and Rowan Brearley.
Stocksbridge's reply with the bat got off to a terrible start, with opener Ogley being clean bowled first ball. James Hague and Ant Siddall looked very comfortable together and the scoreboard was rattling along nicely. Siddall was then given out to a debatable LBW decision for 18 and unfortunately for Stocksbridge, this led to another batting collapse. James Hague continued to look comfortable and moved into the 30s, however there was a constant rotating door of partners for him at the other end. Young off-spinner Harrison Roebuck span Wath to victory, ripping through the Stocksbridge middle and lower order. Only Hague, Siddall and Thwaites reached double figures for Stocksbridge and they were eventually bowled out for just 114. Stocksbridge 2nd XI 234-3 (J Hague 102*, A Siddall 56) vs Ackworth 2nd XI 86 all out Stocksbridge looked to bounce back from league disappointment on Saturday, with a cup quarter final tie vs Ackworth. Ackworth are promotion favourites from the division above Stocksbridge, so Stocky were looking for another cup upset. Ackworth elected to field first, bringing James Hague and Ant Siddall to the crease to open for Stocksbridge. The pair looked imperious at the top of the innings, taking it to the Ackworth bowling attack. Both batsmen continued to find the boundary regularly, as both batters neared their half-centuries. Siddall just pipped his partner to reaching 50 first, however fell shortly afterwards for a very well-made 56, including 9 4s. Hague was now joined by in-form Jack Murfin, with Stocksbridge racing along at 107-1 before the halfway point. Murfin continued his destructive form, firing 2 4s and 3 6s on his way to an entertaining 28 off just 18 balls. James Hague continued to propel Stocksbridge towards a big total. With only a couple of overs remaining, Hague reached his 3 figures, receiv-
10 Rounds in a Day
Stocksbridge golfers Matt Sedgwick and Jamie South completed a marathon charity fund raiser for Prostate Cancer charities. Setting off at 3.45 in the morning they played 10 rounds of golf in one day.
This is not the first time they have done this either, both having done it once before in the last few years. So they both knew what they were letting themselves in for. In warm conditions, they made fantastic progress, finishing the challenge 20 minutes faster than last year, when Jamie did the same challenge with another member of the Club, Steven Haigh. To
I'm sure you will be tired and stiff, but should feel proud of what you have achieved."
Heather added that: "Prostate cancer affects a lot men and their families and anything we can do to advance treatment and care is so important. I'm really proud of what Matt and Jamie have achieved today." complete the challenge they had to carry their own clubs and putt out on every hole. The reason for the challenge was to raise as much money for the Gents and Lady Captains chosen charity, Sheffield Hospi-
tals Charity (specifically for the Prostate Cancer Services) and Prostate Cancer UK. So far, the challenge has raised just short of £2000 and the money is still coming in. John said to the two of them after finishing: "I hope you are both OK,
This is not the end of the fund raising for the Captains charity. Throughout the year there will be a series of events, including a Charity Golf Day, auctions and a range of social events.
ing a huge standing ovation upon reaching his first century for the club. Stocksbridge finished on an imposing total of 243-3 from their 40 overs. Hague the star of the show, finishing 102 not out, including 13 4s. Siddall with an excellent 56, Murfin 28, Firth 22, Lowe 18*. Stocksbridge started well with the ball and were unlucky to not claim an early wicket. Callum Haywood eventually broke the deadlock, bowling opener Miller for 8 and Ackworth were now 43-1. This was by far Ackworth's most meaningful partnership, as wickets began to fall regularly from this point onwards. First change bowlers Paul Hargreaves and Chris Lowe ripped through the Ackworth middle order, both bowling superbly and picking up 3 well deserved wickets each. Thanks to accurate bowling and a good fielding performance, Ackworth crumbled from 43-0 to 86 all out. Only 2 batsmen reached double figures and Stocksbridge completed a resounding 157 run victory. Wickets were shared four ways for Stocksbridge, with Paul Hargreaves returning figures of 3-17, Chris Lowe 3-26, Thwaites 2-16, Haywood 2-18. Stocksbridge now move into the semi-finals after upsetting teams from higher divisions in both of the last 2 rounds of the cup, an excellent achievement.

Tigers go top Tigers 43 - 35 Ipswich SHEFFIELD moved to the top of the Premiership at the end of an eventful night at Owlerton. The Tru Plant Tigers leapfrogged opponents Ipswich with a 43-35 win with a result declared after Heat 13 with the track curfew reached. A high speed crash for visiting skipper Danny King in Heat Seven saw several air bags burst on bend two - leading to a lengthy delay. Up until that moment, the first six races had been keenly contested with the scores tied at 18-18.
A hat-trick of shared races opened things up with drama coming in Heat Two when Connor Mountain was on the wrong end of a 50/50 decision, despite Ipswich guest Broc Nicol appearing to leave Sheffield’s Rising Star with no room down the back straight of the opening lap.
Sheffield skipper Kyle Howarth went agonisingly close to making it two wins out of two in Heat Five after an enthralling opening tussle with Paul Starke, but Ipswich No.1 Jason Doyle produced a fine blast around the boards off the final bends to snatch victory on the line.
A dropped chain for Adam Ellis whilst attempting a practice start ahead of Heat Four forced him onto his spare bike - and the last minute rush seemed to harm his approach as the visitors drew first blood.
Tigers pulled level after Heat Six though with their first 5-1 of the night when guest reserve Justin Sedgmen, in for broken scaphoid victim Jake Allen, made it back-to-back race wins courtesy of another quick getaway. Then came the moment former Sheffield man King picked up some drive on bends one and two whilst leading the initial staging of Heat Seven - and discomfort in his arm led to him withdrawing from the rest of the meeting.

An unwanted, yet unavoidable, delay was then encountered with a rare air supply issue to the one air bag needing to be resolved before racing could continue with rider safety paramount. LG 32LQ630B6LA

Despite bike problems causing Sedgmen to exceed the two minute time allowance, replacement Mountain and Ellis moved Sheffield ahead for the first time with a 4-2. Mountain’s own misfortunes continued though when he was punished with a 15-metre handicap for touching the tapes in Heat Eight. And Howarth brought the house down with a breathtaking ride in the re-run as he produced an almost identical move to the one that saw him pipped by Doyle earlier in the night. He was then straight back out in Heat Nine where a third place led to another 4-2 with Tobiasz Musielak claiming his first race win of the fixture. And back-to-back 3-3s followed before the Pole played his part in what would turn out to be a significant race result. Musielak and Sedgmen did all of the hard work in the early exchanges of Heat 12 - securing a second maximum of the evening to move the Tigers 40-32 ahead. Doyle extended his unbeaten run with another classy victory in Heat 13 - and with the gap still at eight, he was nominated as a tactical substitute in the ‘penultimate’ race. But just as he shot around the outside of fellow Aussie Sedgmen,

team-mate Paul Starke went spiralling into the air fence, bouncing back in spectacular fashion. With Ipswich unable to gain an advantage in the re-run and the curfew within sight, both teams agreed to call it a night after 13 races. Tru Plant Tigers team boss Simon Stead said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all the track staff who worked super hard to make sure we had a meeting - because without that, we would’ve had to have called it a day there and then. “Yes it was frustrating, yes there was a delay but the fact we managed to get through to a result in the end was a good thing. “As a club we’d like to thank the supporters for the patience they showed as well - they stuck with us and we can’t thank them enough. “As for the result, that was the result we needed. “They made us work hard for it which we knew they were going to do. “So we all had to dig deep and credit where it’s due, with the help of Sedgy who did a fantastic job, all the lads had to play their part tonight and they did just that.” Sheffield head to Belle Vue next Monday (July 4, 7.30) with the next action at Owlerton on Thursday, July 14 (7.30) with reigning Champions Peterborough the visitors.
