On Friday, Cadent Gas confirmed every household hit by the catastrophic Stannington ‘gas flood’ was now reconnected to the mains supply, two weeks after the disastrous incident. It came after a Yorkshire Water high-pressure mains pipe in Stannington Road burst and tore into gas pipes belonging to Cadent Gas Ltd on December 2. Cadent Gas said it had removed more than a million litres of water from gas pipes in an area spanning four miles.
"Typically, something needs to happen to remove such a fitting - it needs to have internal or external force applied to it. We don't yet know how that happened," said Ms Shaw.
