COURT: Prolific Sheffield shoplifter jailed

A man has been jailed following a series of shoplifting offences in the Ecclesfield area in recent months.

On Friday (9 June), the local policing neighbourhood team arrested Callum Ripley on suspicion of a number of shoplifting offences.

Ripley, age 30, from Ecclesfield, was later charged with 13 shoplifting offences and remanded into custody.

Ripley plead guilty to all of the offences, and appeared before Sheffield Magistrates Court on Saturday (10 June). He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, as well as a further 16 weeks following a previous suspended sentence, totalling a 34-week sentence.

Sergeant Matt Cook from the Ecclesfield policing team said: “Shoplifting offences are not victimless crimes and have an impact on the company and members of the local community who work there. Ripley’s offending has been prolific in recent months and I am pleased he is now behind bars and facing a custodial sentence for his actions.

“Members of the public should also be reminded that anybody buying stolen items from thieves are also liable for prosecution for handling stolen goods.”
