Residents call for action over junction Save our nhs - PAGE 08
The junction where Bridge Hill, Orchard Street, Low Road, Forge Lane and Station Lane meet has been subject of previous complaints to Sheffield City Council following a number of incidents in which pedestrians and cyclists were injured. A campaign led by Terry Barrow, a local resident and member of Stocksbridge and Upper Don Labour Party, resulted in a petition being presented to a full council meeting earlier this year.
As a result, measures were put in place to stopping drivers parking at the corner of Bridge Hill and Orchard Street. This will make sure that drivers have a clearer view of the junction and adjacent pedestrian crossing. Additional signage will also be placed on Bridge Hill warning drivers of the crossing around the corner. Despite these improvements, residents and road users continue to be concerned about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists at the junction. Campaigners are asking anyone who has been involved in an accident or near-miss at the site to contact Terry Barrow so that she can present this information to
Sheffield City Council’s Head of Transport and Infrastructure. Te r r y B a r r o w o f Sheffield and Upper Don Labour Party said ‘There are real safety issues at this junction. We are campaigning to make sure robust measures are put in place to ensure the safety of all road-users, especially pedestrians and cyclists, who are particularly at risk from cars turning onto the junction from Bridge Hill or Station Lane. This situation will only get worse unless we do something now. There are a number of housing developments planned for the Upper Don Valley, all of which will increase the amount of traffic passing through Oughtibridge.’

A HIGH Green pensioner has praised those who came to the aid of him and his wife after an incident on Tuesday October 24. Anthony Toon, 75, was dropping his wife, 73-year-old Brenda, off on Wortley Road but as she was getting out of the car, she got her foot caught. Anthony recalls “ I heard a scream and when I looked back I could see Brenda laid out in the middle of the road with blood pouring from her head”. Onlookers were quick to Brenda’s aid. Picking her up, sitting her down, getting her a blanket and calling her an ambulance. Anthony and Brenda jointly expressed their gratitude to those who helped “We don’t want to make a big thing of it but we are so grateful to the people that helped us and apologise to all those who were held up in the traffic jam caused by our mishap.” Brenda was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries. She is now revering well at home. She told Look Local when asked about her injuries “ I won’t be going to the hairdressers anytime soon put it that way”

School kids bidding for £25,000 CHILDREN from a primary school in Chapeltown have taken to the small screen in a bid to win £25,000 to improve their outdoor learning space.
Windmill Hill Primary School has been shortlisted for an Aviva Community Fund grant of £25,000 thanks to the film that features a number of the pupils talking about what they’d love to have in their playground if they won the funding. The race is now on to gather as many votes as possible. Mrs Grantham, head teacher at Windmill Hill Primary School, said: “We are so delighted that we have been shortlisted for the opportunity to win the money that would make a fantastic difference to the outdoor learning environment at our school. “Our children are wonderful, you only have to watch our bid video to see that, and we would love for them to be able to enjoy more opportunities to learn outdoors, such as new vegetable patches and outdoor classrooms. We hope all of the local community will rally behind us and give us their votes.”

Schools in grant plea LOCAL schools in Sheffield need your support to secure vital funding and from Tuesday October 24 to Tuesday November 21, schools need your votes!
Must End Soon
In a letter to parents, a spokesperson for Royd Nursery Infant School said: “Royd Nursery Infant School are working in collaboration with eleven local schools and are calling for the support of the local community to help win funding from the Aviva Community Fund 2017.
Limited Offer
“We are relying on votes to increase our chances of winning funding of up to £25,000 which we hope will allow us to deliver a project entitled ‘Brilliant Communities.’ The aim is to transform lives and embed ‘brilliance’ into schools’ ethos creating confident, positive, upbeat, passionate and happy children – embedding skills and attitudes that will set them up for life. “If successful, our 12 local primary schools will send representatives from their Year Two (age six and seven) and Year Five children (age nine and 10) on a series of ‘Brilliant Communities’ workshops, where they will explore themes of positivity, personal responsibility, resilience, gratitude, confidence, kindness and strengths. Each school will then come up with a 10-point ‘happiness action plan’ to spread wellbeing and kindness across their school and community. Four months later, the children will gather for a huge celebration event where each school presents what they’ve achieved. “The workshops are based on the successful ‘Art of Being Brilliant’ books and workshops. The sessions are designed to be thought-provoking as well as great fun – but don’t let the light-hearted tone detract from a very serious underlying message. A recent ‘Children’s Society’ report placed English children 14th out of 15 in a happiness league table and with teenage mental health issues rising rapidly, it’s the perfect time to focus on how to form habits of happiness and wellbeing. The workshops are underpinned by 12 years of academic research into flourishing and wellbeing. “To get behind our ‘Brilliant Communities’ bid and help make a difference in our local community, visit https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/ project/view/17-4152 and submit your vote before November 21. “Each email address can be used to vote 12 times. Please, please, please take some time to vote and ask your family and friends to join in. Please share on facebook and get people’s support.

production of steel components for ship building, tanks and armaments. HMS Sheffield was coined ‘The Shiny Sheff ” as the traditional brass fittings were in fact made from Sheffield stainless steel.”
On Saturday the organising committee received a sponsorship cheque from Stancill Brewery with proceeds from the sale of a special beer.
Back in June this year, Penistone were host to the first Armed Forces Day showground event in our region with visitor numbers of over 7,000 coming from all over Sheffield and Barnsley.
Organiser of the Armed Forces Day told Look Local: “This has been a massive boost to our project; to have a regional event for South Yorkshire here in Penistone. “Next year’s event is focused around the centenary to the end of WWI and the centenary of the RAF.

For the 35th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Sheffield, attacked by an Argentinean Exocet missile with the loss of 20 lives during the Falklands conflict, Stancill Brewery produced a special beer called The Shiny Sheff to commemorate the Type 42 destroyer and all her crew. The Sheffield brewery donated a percentage from the revenue from sales of the beer, amounting to £1,500, to the Armed Forces Day organisation behind the military event on the Penistone Show Ground on June 30 next year. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield Cllr Anne Murphy presented the cheque to Spike Mayston on behalf of the Armed Forces Day team. Tom Gill, managing director of Stancill Brewery, said “Like many businesses in Sheffield we are proud to support our armed services. A massive part of Sheffield’s heritage is the manufacturing and
“Next year’s event is going to be much larger and will include a first world war theme as we intend to mark the centenary to the end of WWI in a big way,” said Phil Welford, one of the Armed Forces Day organisers. “This money will go towards putting on displays for the public next year.” Councillor Anne Murphy and MP Angela Smith, along with survivors of HMS Sheffield, attended the launch of the Shiny Sheff Beer in May this year. Angela Smith said: “I am delighted to be back for the presentation of the £1,500 cheque to the Armed Forces Day organisation. “I know it takes time, effort and lots money to lay on an event of this nature. Armed Forces Day in Penistone this year was a big success and with the help from businesses, these events will snowball each year.” The Armed Forces Day organisation is appealing to the business community to become involved in the 2018 show ground event and thereby being linked into a national event. For more information please email Spike on penistone.armed.forces. day@gmail.com
MP adds her name to calls for a new HMS Sheffield IT is now 35 years since the second HMS Sheffield was lost during the Falklands conflict with tragic loss of life and 15 years since the third ship to bear the name was decommissioned. Now the Penistone and Stocksbridge MP has joined the chorus of voices calling for the name be given to one of the new type 26 frigates under construction. She did this at the recent House of Commons Defence questions asking the Secretary of State for Defence: “It is 35 years since HMS Sheffield was sunk in the Falklands war, and my constituents believe it is about time that
another Royal Navy ship was named after our great city. “Will the Secretary of State ensure that the relevant committee gives full consideration to ensuring that we can enjoy the fourth HMS Sheffield?” These new ships are state of the art £350m vessels designed specifically to protect the new carriers from submarines. Already, the first two have been named after the UK cities, Glasgow and Belfast. Given the distinction of service given by previous ships named after the city the MP feels it is only right the city has a new ship named after it as well. Angela continued: “The name of HMS is synonymous with
the Royal Navy with first ship to bear the name gaining many battle honours during WW2, including helping to sink the German battleships Bismark and Scharnhorst. “Of course the second HMS Sheffield was tragically lost in the Falklands and the city has not had a ship named after it for 15 years. “Now, given that a new City Class of frigates are to be built it is vital the city which has always had close ties with the Royal Navy has a new ship named after it and that is why I have added my name to the growing chorus for there to be a fourth HMS Sheffield.”

Save our NHS www.looklocal.org.uk
Call 0114 283 11 00
Last Saturday saw a big demonstration in Barnsley against cuts in the National Health Service. NHS campaigning groups and trade unionists from all over the North of England came together with local group Barnsley Save Our NHS and Barnsley TUC to protest against what they say will be cuts of £571million in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw services over the next few years. The demonstration was covered by “Calendar” and “Look North”.
Around 200 protesters took part, marching round town and then holding a rally on Kendray Street. They drew attention to the recent closure of much loved Mount Vernon Hospital, proposals in Sheffield to close the Minor Injuries Unit and Walk-in Centre and the proposed closure of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. They claimed that no one was listening to their serious concerns about NHS cuts. Pete Deakin, Chair of Barnsley Save Our NHS, said, “The demonstration was a big success. This is something for us to build on. Cuts have been taking place without
much publicity so far. As more people realise what we are losing, we expect a massive campaign to build up. There are campaign groups in all the South Yorkshire towns and a South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw NHS Action Group to co-ordinate action between them. Come and get involved. The next meeting of Barnsley Save Our NHS is on Monday, 6th November, at 5pm, in Barnsley Library.” The rally on Kendray Street received a video message of support from Barnsley MPs Dan Jarvis and Stephanie Peacock. Stephanie Peacock said, “The NHS is something that is close to my heart. My mum worked for the NHS for almost 40 years and my dad is a care worker. We really can’t trust this government with the NHS.”
Dan Jarvis said, “I’m often reminded of that quote from Nye Bevan from 1948 when he said that the NHS will last as long as there are folk with the faith left to fight for it. We have to be those folk, and we have to have that faith, and we have to fight for it.”

Growing up in S6 was just the tonic POST-WAR life in Sheffield’s Hillsborough area is brought vividly back to life this month. Whilst Britain was still in the grips of austerity, young Jack Watson had everything he wanted and more on Proctor Place – his home for the first few years of his life. Friends, family and the long-gone Hillsborough Kinema – the picture house that gave him his lifelong love of films – was everything he needed within a 500 yard radius of his house. Jack Watson’s book - ‘A Nice Tailend From Mr Burrows’ - originally started out as a few personal notes for relatives about his early life in Hillsborough and, later, nearby Stannington. But it soon grew to something far bigger as friends and family encouraged him to do more.
Jack Watson said: “We were one of three terrace houses that shared a communal yard covered in sinkholes. We had an outdoor toilet, no hot water and the only heating was an open fire in one room. “But we wanted for nothing. I experienced everything from the streets of Hillsborough and Stannington – I was influenced by people around me, the stories I heard, the challenges I faced and the love I felt. “It made me realise just how much my passion for music, film, sport and history partly had shaped my life and how many seismic events I’d been witness to in the post war era of the 1950s and 1960s. “Nowhere could I have found a better grounding than S6 – everything from the colourful
characters I encountered to the famous Hillsborough roar and the World Cup Group games of 1966.” Jack Watson’s pin sharp memory and upbeat style provides a captivating read and includes everything from his dad’s win of celebrated The Star Walk to the yearly family holiday to the coast. It’s also a reminder of a carefree age when kids enjoy freedoms unheard of today. Jack Watson added: “Lastly my message to you all - put away the computer and live in reality. Enjoy the streets before they are taken away from you forever.” ‘A Nice Tailend From Mr Burrows’ is published by www.acmretro.com and sells for £9.95.

Scouts chase funding GRENOSIDE Scout and Guide Group are in the running to receive funding from the Aviva Community Fund, however to stand a chance of getting any funding they need your votes.
They are also hoping to construct a new outdoor toilet and washing facility that will enable the space to be used for full day events and overnight camping for the children and young people.
Any funding they receive will be used to initially purchase a sit on lawn mower. This will enable them to cut the grass on the unused land at the rear of their HQ building. By doing this they will enable the children to make proper use of this valuable resource.
As a local Scout and Guide Group located in Grenoside they not only provide places for the children and young people of Grenoside but from further afield, with children from Oughtibridge, Fox Hill and Parsons Cross attending.
They will then add an all-weather pathway down one side of the field to allow wheelchair access. The path will lead to a new purpose built campfire circle and wildlife area that will be accessible to everyone no matter what their mobility.
By voting for their project you will be bringing an area of waste land back to life and giving local children and young people the chance to experience wildlife and the outdoors in a controlled and safe environment. Please vote for them at https://community-fund. aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/17-3331

Earlier this year, two teachers at Wharncliffe Side Primary School took part in the Core Coaching Programme delivered by LINKs School Partnership in association with British Fencing.
One of the children described his experience: “I wanted to do it because I wanted to try something different. We’ve learnt skills and new tactics and every week we’ve been able to fence against each other. We get to wear proper suits and have safety swords.”
Nigel Hartley and Esther Loveday successfully completed their training and have been able to

Your Letters Supertram link consultation
from our ranks.
Dear Editor
Fighting talk from this vote seeker I say, however, I will let the electorate in the High Green ward decide whether his rhetoric has any credibility or not.
Please find below details of the current consultation running for changes to the Supertram Link service in January 2018. These proposed changes will be introduced to coincide with changes to the Supertram service which are taking place 28 January 2018. So what’s changing? Supertram are changing their timetable from 28 January 2018 so that on Mondays to Fridays between approximately 0900 and 1600 and all day Saturdays, trams will operate every 12 minutes. We are now looking at 3 different options of how the Supertram Link buses can best serve Stocksbridge, and maintain the connection to the Supertram at Middlewood Park and Ride. Customer can see full details of the proposed changes and give their feedback online at stagecoachbus.com or by picking up a consultation form on bus, in the library or at one of our drop in sessions. Drop in sessions will be help at the following times and places: Friday 3rd November: Stocksbrige Library 10am - 12 noon
Having done my homework I find that over many decades the High Green ward has been well represented on Ecclesfield Parish Council by members of this community, and that local community groups who have applied for funding grants to help them has been granted. This information that I have given relating to the running of this organisation is known to be true (we should put party politics to one side) and can be confirmed by any parishioner who wishes to do so with Parish Council records which date back a very long time. Whilst sometimes we may not agree with members of a political party that have been elected, we should all respect and recognise that they have to make collective decisions on behalf of all parishioners in the wards of Ecclesfield, Grenoside, Chapeltown, Burncross, not just High Green. In closing, may I also point out that apart from the Chair who receives a yearly allowance (to reimburse him/her to carry out public duties) all the other members give up their time voluntarily.
Friday 3rd November Middlewood Park and Ride 1.30pm - 4pm
John Yale, High Green.
Please see attached the consultation leaflet with full details of the proposed changes and options for travel we have put forwards. Consultation open 23rd October - 17th November 2017 Cllr Julie Grocutt, Stocksbridge Town Council
Election response
Operation Christmas Child Operation Christmas Child is back again with leaflets available from all churches in the valley, Look Local’s office, the Bridge shop, the library, Floral Magic and Samuel’s. Collection points are as follows:
Dear Editor,
Mondays – Salvation Army from 10am to 2pm and Green Moor Church from 10am to 2.45pm.
May I please respond to the letter published in Look Local (Election Announcement) on Thursday October 19. Whilst I fully respect the fact that any candidate standing in the forthcoming Ecclesfield Parish Council By- Election has a right to advertise themselves in your newspaper I also think that any of your readers and members of the public should also be able to respond to what they have read from he/she that has made them. The writer claims that he and the team of volunteers he belongs to have decided that he will stand in the above mentioned election to be held on Thursday November 9. As it appears that this candidate has recently resigned from a well known political party that he was a member of and joined another I just wonder what ticket he will be standing on when we see the ballot paper? Will we receive a proper election address through our letterboxes, or, do we take it that the declaration in Look Local was it? This particular person who seeks office claims that until we in High Green has someone who is willing and able to fight our corner then we will continue to be neglected, ignored by those that make the decisions, and that we need a voice at the table
Tuesdays – Valley Pentecostal Church from 10am to 2pm. Christian Centre 10am to 2pm. Christ Church 10am to 12 noon. Green Moor Church 10am to 2.45pm. St John’s Deepcar 11am to 12 noon. Wednesdays - Green Moor Church 10- 2.45pm. Thursdays – Valley Pentecostal Church 10-2pm. Saturdays – Christian Centre 10am to 11.30am. Sundays – St Ann’s Church (in porch) 9.15-11am. Last collection date is Monday November 27. Boxes may also be left at Floral Magic or Samuel’s. We hope you will all support us again. Last year we sent 1,416 boxes from Green Moor Church to Swaziland and Nigeria.
Ecclesfield parish council grants Readers of Look Local may be aware of a misconception that Ecclesfield Parish Council has not granted money to local groups and organisations in High Green. To put the record straight the Parish Council’s

As you can see, the grants to each community are broadly equal.

In addition to the above, the parish council will be investing £600,000.00 in the Thorncliffe Sports and Leisure Centre. This brilliant service is within walking distance for many people who live in High Green but it is, of course, a valuable resource for all the residents who live in the whole of the parish council area.

David Morton - Clerk Ecclesfield parish council
LABOUR’S COMMITMENT TO HIGH GREEN Since 2011, when Labour was first elected to Sheffield City Council, after 37 years of Liberal/ Liberal Democrat dominance, large amounts of West Ecclesfield Ward Pot money has gone to High Green. This includes £15,000 in improvements to the Miners Welfare, £45,000 for Angram Bank Skate Park and £25,000 to other projects, such as £1,750 for improvements to Thorncliffe Sports Pavilion and £950 for High Green Fitness and Fun. The Liberal Party (as it was then) took over the running of the Parish Council from Labour in 1975. The first act was to give away services for the City Council to run. Whilst other parish councils are responsible for such things as community centres, cemeteries and footpaths, our Liberal Democrat Parish did little more than give out grants. They only had Chapeltown Baths because it had been given to the Labour run Council by Wortley Rural District Council in 1962. Since 1996, that became a grant towards someone else running it. It was the Labour Group, when I last represented High Green, that pushed them to leasing Chapeltown Toilets from the City Council, when it had to close them. 40 years the Lib Dems ran the Parish Council and yet condemn Labour, which has only been in control for two years, for putting City Council priorities first. Together with the City Council, it’s Labour that’s putting PARISH priorities FIRST and funding them. The Liberal Democrats should note that Labour has turned Angram Bank Children’s Centre into a FAMILY Centre to offer MORE services - NOT closing it as they say. Labour will NOT allow Mortomley Park to be built on, as we have repeatedly said.
Parish, East and West Ecclesfield, LABOUR Councillors are working with the bus companies to ensure services continue to get our children to school. Finally, Mr Ogle does NOT live in the High Green Ward, he lives in the THORNCLIFFE Ward and the first defibrillator has been bought for the Parish Council Offices, which are in HIGH GREEN despite what he says! And whist Mr Ogle claims to be an Independent at every recent election he has stood as a UKIP candidate. Now he knows UKIP are becoming more and more discredited as a party so he’s trying his luck as an independent. High Green deserves better than someone who claims to be independent when they are anything but. It would be a great honour to serve our Parish and to put more into the community which is my home. This is why I am putting myself forward for election. I am proud of my work in High Green and have always strived to do my best for the area, and if elected onto the Parish I will continue to do everything I can for our community. Andy Bainbridge, Labour candidate
Valley in Bloom Once again Valley in Bloom would like to thank the schools who joined us on Wednesday morning to plant up their containers down on the main road. It was a busy scene as bulbs and pansies were planted in anticipation of spring. Thanks to the head teachers who made it possible for their pupils to come, to the teaching assistants who escorted them and to the children themselves who were a credit to their schools. Together we are making Stocksbridge a town to be proud of. From Valley in Bloom

The last try of the half again went to Wensleydale, as the Fly Half was this time the beneficiary of some woeful home defending and glided past 3 defenders to score. Wensleydale’s kicker maintained his 100% record, converting the try to give a half time score of Stocksbridge 0 Wensleydale 24.

Playing into a strong wind in the first half, the Pigs simply didn’t control the game and were guilty of fundamental mistakes that gifted possession and position to the visitors, who were only too pleased to accept it.

It wasn’t long before Wensleydale scored their opening try, as the opposition Scrum Half spotted an opening near the ruck and darted through to score under the posts. The try was converted and the visitors added their second try on 21 minutes as they capitalised on another wayward Stocksbridge kick, with a short-range try just to the right of the posts. Again the conversion attempt was successful and Wensleydale added a

Facing an uphill battle to claw back a 24 point deficit, the Pigs had the benefit of the strong wind this time and continued pressure led to Ben Brown forcing his way over to record the home team’s first try. Unfortunately with no recognised kicker the conversion was missed. Stocksbridge were on the score-sheet once more soon after, as captain Pete Newton dummied his way over from 30 yards for the Pigs second try, but yet again the conversion was missed to leave Stocksbridge trailing 24 - 10 with 15 minutes left. Needing two converted tries to draw level, the Pigs tried in vain to cross the line, but after several close misses, it was Wensleydale who were to score when a poor clearance led to them scoring wide out on the right. With aspirations of a top half finish this year, Stocksbridge will need to be much more clinical and as a minimum, they’ll need to make sure they start winning their home games. The Pigs are away at Airborough this Saturday and all travelling support is as ever, greatly appreciated.

Siblings storm Sheffield Cross Country Saturday 21st October saw the inter Sheffield Cross Country race get underway. Representing Stocksbridge High School were four siblings, none of which have done any official running in the past until the school first entered the event last month. Within the past month they have run in their own time and, in preparation for their first cross country race, they have been fully committed to ensuring they practice as much as possible. This included two of the siblings getting up at 5am to practice their
run in their local park – more specifically, the Saturday morning of the race, the boys were up looking for hills to practice running up too! Within school they have all continued to impress within lessons and are the first people to organise and request cross country information for their next race. The four of them are part of a group of 24 students who have taken up the opportunity to give up their Saturday mornings to represent the school at Cross
Country. This is the first year the school has entered into the Cross Country events and all year groups are currently in a very respectable position in the league table, with some students on track to qualify for the regional events in the New Year. Congratulations to the siblings. Your hard work has not gone unrecognised and you should be very proud of yourselves! We look forward to seeing you storm the Cross Country league tables next year.
It has been a busy weekend for Penistone Runners.

Oughtibridge WM Ladies progressed to the quarter finals of the League Cup with a hard fought 2-0 win over Loughborough University. With a number of the first team squad unavailable Manager Andy Towns called up Demi Mullen from the Development squad and it was her effort against the bar that came closest to breaking the deadlock in a tight first half, with both defences well on top. In the 2nd half the Oughtibridge back line of Chloe Rodgers, Katie Denton and Milly Wilson continued to keep Loughborough at bay as the home side looked the more likely to score. The game had to wait until the 61st minute from a needless penalty conceded for hand ball on the corner of the box.
Becky Shaw smacked it down the middle for 1-0. The game boiled over as Loughborough’s frustration got the better of them with Kirstie Gordon lucky to only see yellow for a clumsy challenge and the manager dismissed for challenging one decision too many. Coran Wright kept her side ahead with an instinctive save from Loughborough’s best chance of the game late on and they paid the price in the final minute as Anna Goulding ran on to a lovely through ball from Annie Longmore and tucked it past the onrushing keeper to seal a 2-0 win. The War Memorial Ladies pick up their league campaign this sunday with a tricky looking fixture at Ollerton Town.

Door hinges One of the most irritating things in life is a squeaky door hinge. Simply spray a little WD-40 onto the hinges, moving the door back and forth to make sure the liquid is worked in, and you should be set. No WD-40? No worries, rubbing petroleum jelly in can also do the trick.

Although only a temporary solution, you’d be surprised what a little talcum powder can do when it comes to silencing creaking floorboards. Worn caning Over time, the caning on chairs is likely to sag. You can easily tighten this up with a sponge and warm water, rub the water in and allow to dry overnight, repeating if necessary. Stained tub
forms. Rub this into the stain with a cloth, allow around half an hour for it to sit, and then rinse thoroughly with water.
Jammed sliding windows and doors Use silicone spray lubricant, available from all good hardware stores, applied to a rag. Wipe the rag along the tracks, and soon you’ll have smooth runnings again. This works whether the tracks are metal, wood or plastic. Old decals
Mix equal measures of cream of tartar with baking soda and enough lemon juice so that a paste
Spray the decal with WD40, and if possible try to work at the edges and get
the liquid underneath a little. Allow to sit for a few minutes then gently begin to scrape from the edges using a credit card, ideally old just in case it snaps. If you need to degrease the surface afterwards use washing up liquid. Tired cushions Place the offending cushion(s) outside in the midday sun for a few hours, turning them over as you would a piece of meat halfway through. Thanks to the evaporation of any moisture stored inside the cushions should start plumping up, providing there’s some life in the old pillow yet.
Linoleum scuffs
Rub the scuff with white toothpaste, using a dry cloth. Alternatively, you can use a pencil eraser. Or, if you have some to hand, our old friend WD-40 can work just as well. Once you’re done degrease with washing up liquid and water.

Goalkeeper ‘saves’ the day Stocksbridge PS 1 -1 Belper by: James Grayson www.nonleagueyorkshire.com
Goalkeeper David Reay was the unlikely hero and goal-scorer after equalising for Stocksbridge in the 94th minute of the draw with Belper Town at Look Local Stadium. The Steels were staring down the barrel of a disappointing home defeat having trailed to Leandro Browne’s back-post finish on the half-hour mark.
Well earned point for church
Liversedge 2-2 Penistone Church FC
Belper then parked the proverbial bus and Stocksbridge really struggled to break their visitors.
Manger Ian Richards said after the game,
When substitute Ben Rhodes was sent off for two bookable offences, Stocksbridge’s hopes looked lost.
I’m pleased with the performance today and the point. I think it’s quite a psychological boost for us today, it was difficult conditions, heavy pitch, and the wind was blowing down the pitch towards one goal.
That’s when desperate tactics from a Steels corner reaped a big rewards as Reay got the final touch on the ball during a mass scramble to score his first career goal.
They are a physical direct team and well experienced at this level, we stood up well, every man put in a real shift in today and yes I’m disappointed we were two-nil up and didn’t win it but second half we were kicking against the wind, we soaked up quite a bit of pressure then we hit them with a lot of pace going forward, which we planned to do and in the second half we had the best opportunity to win the game, on another day we would have taken those opportunities.

They’re probably thinking first half with that penalty miss, Adam Rho-
des made a great save with that and he made two excellent save on top of that. So they’re probably sitting there thinking we could have edged it as well, but to come away from home, we know our away form isn’t as good as it can be, play like we did and get that point we should be very pleased and I think it’s a real psychological lift for me and the players that we can do that and as we do similar as the season progresses we can get a point or even better three points. So I’m pleased today we got a really rousing round of applause when they came off because everyone could see that every single player had given one hundred per-cent and didn’t leave anything out on the pitch so I’m really pleased with the performance, I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t get three points but we’ve moved forward. We now have a week’s rest and then we focus on Maltby Main next Saturday.
